Aw, thanks! This is a super concise video!

Please note that you might need to raise the speed master before deleting it. Otherwise, the speed might stick to zero.
Here's how to do it without a speed master: ua-cam.com/video/Uvb-0UuAx4w/v-deo.html

What I'm trying to figure out is how to record a position for a group in which I manually arranged all the heads. For example I have 6 beams on a truss and I change the position of each one individually and then record it but it only saves the position of the last beam I moved.

You need to select all the moving fixtures

Good tutorial. Last rig me and my colleague had a discussion about adapting real live rig to a ChamSys visualizer. Could you share your opinion on how to deal with fixture position alignment when you come to the rig and most of the lights are pointing in different directions since they can't be put perfectly identical on the truss like in chamsys visualizer. What is the easiest way to make those fixtures point the same direction that is shown in the visualizer? What do you think

      Thanks!
Are you talking about adjusting position palettes? Like perhaps a center stage position?
I've used the visualiser to build a couple of stages to pre-program, accurate enough to get an idea of what it would look like.
When the rig was up I had to put an offset (in the patch window) on some lights becuase the center pan position was rotated 90 degrees in the physical light.
Adjusting a center stage position I tried to get as close as possible with tilt and FAN + pan and then quickly adjust them individually.
For symmetrical adjustments perhaps SHIFT + Single can be useful. It paris the first and last fixture in your selection and steps into the center when pressing next head.
It's also good to define the tilt and pan parameters in the head file to get accurate movement in the visualizer.
Could you give me a scenario where you think the lights would be totally off? Or what position do you want to keep as accurate as possible?

It's hard to explain but i'll try my best. For example i have pre-programmed the rig, all the positions are correct in the visualizer and everything looks good and symmetric. Next day i come to the rig, load my show file and turn on my lamps. Everything works fine but positions that are in visualizer are not the same as in real life ( They are similar but not symmetric and proper ). Because of that i have to fix these "real life" positions individually with "single" button as you mentioned before. Then positions in real life look proper and symmetric, since i have adjusted them, but in visualizer they are not correct and symmetrical since i have moved them to look good in real life.
Is there is a way to only correct fixture position in real life without touching visualizers positions, because in this case if i fix position in real life, the visualizer position gets moved as well and gets bad.
Maybe my way is bad, i don't know. Because of this i always have to make my positions on stage, before the rig starts. And maybe there is an easier way of all this live positioning thing because it eats really big amount of programming time.

Oh, I see. I don't think you can edit positions without it affecting the visualizer.
If the parameters are defined and the rig is as close to scale in the visualizer as possible, they shouldn't be so off that it matters.
You could perhaps try to adjust the placement of the fixtures in the visualizer based on your real life positions. Make some reference position live and try to match it by moving the lights in the visualizer.

@@elvispot1 Learn about patch offset, "update patch offset" (use a LEAD position) and setup > vis > auto insert into visualizer (no patch offsets). This way, you can adjust one and only position (lead is your best bet), update patch offset (not updating your real lead position tho). Now magicq deals with subtle angle mismatches, directly in the patch. All your positions should be OK, at least, most of them, leaving your visualizer positions unaltered by offsets.

How do I change the actual home position of my Heads? I'm having to learn magic Q fast and can't figure it out!

I managed to find the 'vis heads' menu and set them up through there in the end.
It's for a fairly simple theatre piece, so they only expect me to learn the basics. I was hoping to learn as much as I can though. Maybe I can help out friends who are still Dj'ing and performing in future.
