Hello, I have the older "red / Burgundy" cover and would like to know how to set auto close on that......currently it closes after 1 second....if I hold the remote when open, it does stay open but this is not the ideal solution......and ideas would be much appreciated.

Do I have to have a beam installed to use auto close mode or is there a resistor to bypass the beam option?

Unfortunately you will need beams for auto-close - it is simply a security feature to ensure no nasty "accidents".
