@@Cribbo Nah. The problem with paper for this is that it's: 1) too light; 2) too close to food for animals; 3) have some nasty chemicals used for it. So, the paper will just fly away from the desired spots with strong wind, be eaten by animals thinking that it's funny grass and possibly pollute the soil. That's especially true of the Bible paper that from my experience tends to be even thinner than regular paper, because it's a massive book that is mass produced to infinity. Edit: maybe you hose it as you put it down quickly... But then, industrial paper has a harder time decomposing compared to wood chips.
This is for William: You can use the wood chips and till them into the top inches of the soil, but it'll take a couple years till they break down into soil themselves. I would suggest, if you want it to happen faster, buying some topsoil/compost to bring in and mix with it. Though its faster because your skipping the composting part yourself, that means its more expensive. Clay would work, but it hardens and compacts too much to be very usable for grass, and it turns into a muddy mess when it rains, though some of it mixed in would be helpful for moisture retention and soil electrolyte gradients (plants need electrolytes too!) My ideal yard would be one that I've tilled an equal mix of sand/clay/compost into with the wood chips. You have the clay already it seems though! (really fine, dusty sand is technically clay) I'm a biologist who specializes in plants if you ever want to DM me for any advice about soil health or growing anything!
This is all good advice. Here's some more: buy topsoil and mulch by the truckload. contact a lumber yard. Do not buy bags from a big box store. Bag mulch is overpriced inferior product, and 9/10 times is moldy.
I have seen the usefulness of a shredder. Cover the ground around plants with mulch, and immediately, you need to water less often. The added bonus is that it will make the ground loose. When you put mulch every year, it's crazy how soft it become.
As a person with ADHD myself, when you make a list, you need to break you list into smaller parts. Like, order parts for breaks, flush lines, complete fixing breaks, find out what’s wrong with steering, fix steering, clean up everything from the project, add solar to tractor 1, add solar to tractor 2, etc..
6:20 - "Is this guy normal?" When you start to really investigate this question in this context, it unfolds like an origami matryoshka. There is _so much_ to unpack here.

Hey for your car port and around your house. To keep the ants out use diatomaceous earth. Put it anywhere that gets minimal moisture since it will break down if it gets wet. I would put the diatomaceous earth under the fake grass and sprinkle it in the fake grass!
Make sure you have decent drainage and put down Calcium Chloride. They use it to harden gravel roads, you can get it liquid or granular and spread or spray where you want it harder. it will clump together the fines. Idk about spreading the whole yard with it but any roadway cover it. Calcium Chloride!
'The sand will shed any amendments you put in it unless you get a living root into it. That's how you "fix" bad soil is by having a living root in it (grass, shrubs, trees, etc)
I live in the inverse, my property has pottery consistency clay, and some people say that I should have added sand to break that up; however, that negatively impacts our ability to grow native species as well as our garden. Instead I went to a soil treatment plant during their slow season and put about 100 tons of recyclables (this is the step before material gets turned into compost) into the soil for free since they needed to get more space. I also spoke to the electrical company that was trimming trees from the power lines and told them that they could dump their wood chips into our meadow if they wanted. I got probably another 20 tons of woodchips. Mixing all of that into the soil has been madly helpful in breaking up our clay. I would imagine it probably would help with your sand too.
The advice you get is never what you want to hear: clay isn't going to do much to help your "soil" problem. Your best bet is fixing the chipper and solving two problems in one by spreading some homemade mulch
I say this as someone who has a fleet of broken equipment: check out a forklift supply store for new master cylinders. Good luck on losing your mind. It’s fun.
Wow! The cleaning up the space is some real top content over there. Please make more checking off to do list content with before and after pics and of course , don’t forget the MONTAGE!
If you really want to farm that soil DO NOT DUMP A BUMNCH OF CLAY. That will mix with the sand and when it rains it will turn hard and crust. You need topsoil. You can either buy a bunch, which is hard to find good quality, or what I would recommend is to just dump an absolute shit ton of woodchips on the space you want to grow at. I’m talking at least a foot or 2 deep worth of chips on the area. Keep it watered for at least a season and plant into compost mounds at the same level. Good luck!

The Romans didn't built Rome in a day, probably not even a week. And you got that Taylor-Dunn fixed in way less than a week (uhh, from when you actually started), so I'd say that's a win. Caretaker should be celebrating the win, that would make it way better!

If you want to improve your soil for farming look into regenerative agriculture practices and mulch heavily where its needed, that woodchipper is your best friend.
Compost compost compost then spread it throught your yard and till it. Or get a couple truck loads of river loam and some sort of compost. Use your tractor spread it thin (like maybe an inch deep) and till it into the ground then re pack.
I am a wood chipper user. and I can tell the blade and the housing is not strong enough for shredding chunk of big woods. you will need at least 3 blade that weight 6kg each and 30kw main motor .
Will, I think you should make a mill the reward for finishing your to-do list. However, you can only start looking for one once the list is complete -- you do not have the self control to "just look at your options" before you're done
Will, idk if you were trying to bleed the brakes or flush the fluid but when you bleed them you need to only open the bleeder while pushing down on the pedal, then close the bleeder let the pedal up, pump it a few times and hold it down firm while the bleeder is opened again. Repeat 5ish times and it will be good. Letting the pedal come back up with the bleeder open sucks air right back into the system
The key to winning a bid is to wait until the listing is about to end (around 10 seconds depending on the site) and then bid. Any bidding done before then will only drive the price way up. You also have to keep in mind that your bid needs to reach the server and be processed or smthn. Basically, don’t bid too early, but don’t wait until the very last second. It helps to try out different times, like 10 seconds on a listing, and then 8 on another to figure out how long it will take for your bid to go through. Also remember that other people will do this, and the highest bid wins, not the last. Good luck!
