- Went out in search of smallmouth bass in the river with hopes of using this NEW bait (micro tadpole lure) that I bought. I wanted to try out micro fishing for smallmouth bass since I have never done it before and I was suggested to use this weird/awesome lure as bait.. which I've never used before. @@Bowhunt I'm in SE MI, and the local water bodies can often be divided by species. In other words, some lakes or rivers hold more of a certain fish. I obviously tend to lean more towards the SMB. The only other species I seek are LMB & Musky.
Northern Mike That’s how it is here as well, if I want to get into giant smallies or Muskie, I have to go up north to WI. Same goes for walleye fishing. IL does have some decent lakes for bass fishing and that’s about it, in my opinion.
@@Bowhunt I'm really lucky (spoiled) to be 30-50 min away from 3 world class water bodies for Bass & Esox- Lk St Clair, the Detroit River & Lk Erie

I love UL fishing with micro lures and this tadpole was producing numbers and size. I love smallies. Looks like maybe something took at bite out of that one's dorsal fin. The last one was a TANK! Great job out there Ovie (Sorry if I misspelled it buddy).
I need a UL rod for 1/32, never thrown anything like this before.. even 1/16 is small for me. I wish I had my Ketch board to get a measurement on that last one. Close enough, it's spelled Ovi. Not your typical name! I appreciate you stopping by Fitz!

That last smallie was a beauty, congrats! The injury on the other fish I will guess was either bacterial or self inflicted. Maybe it got startled while resting/tucked in the rocks. It’s a strange place for another fish to attack.
It sure was! Biggest one I've had this year off the shore. Good call on that, it almost looked like it was bacterial.
That tadpole lure is cool I have been using a Helgramite most of the summer but now they are not hitting it as much I bet those might work better
So far so good on the tadpole, a fellow river angler suggested it to me. It's funny you mention that Mike because I bought a pack of Helgramite's too, how do you rig that up?
