Aty: A little boy otter who came to our house at the age of 9 months.
At first he couldn't even swim in the river, but now he loves the river more than anything else and swims in it all year round.
Whenever we go out, he always walks ahead of everyone, so he has come to be called “Captain Aty”.
Ui: A tomboy with comical movements.
Because of her ferocious nature, she had to go from one owner to another.
At first, she was so ferocious that Aty was too frightened to even touch her.
But Ui opened up to us and now she and Aty make out every day.
Aty and Ui have been issued a certificate of registration as an internationally rare wild animal and plant species.
Although Ui may appear calm today, she used to be so ferocious that people could not approach her.
After more than a year of being bitten, she finally came to live with us.
Otters are very intelligent and watch the people around them very carefully.
They will never open their hearts to you if you only have a superficial relationship with them.
They are also very active animals and require several hours of exercise per day.
They need to be walked outside or swam in the river for two to three hours every day.
The amount of exercise they get inside the house will never be enough to satisfy their needs.
Please do your research on otters before you think that “I want to keep one."
You need to think carefully about whether you can face them with your life.

yeah, those fish didn't stand a chance. Aty was so good at catching them. Pretty impressive for a 'domesticated' otter that didn't grow up having to catch his own fish. I think they must have a very powerful hunting instinct. Still, I should always remember that all of this stuff is going on all the time for us, we just don't see it ....

@@richardconway6425 I agree with everything you’ve said. Aty’s hunting skills are outstanding, I’d say even more developed than other otters’ (I’m thinking of the Professor, who plays with the fish rather than hunting them)
Well... if it really was in nature, the fish would have a shot at getting away in a river or pond. In a small pool like that, they stand no chance and b/c Aty and Ui eat them, tail first, they're just watching themselves being eaten alive...
@@MariaMTBaez 💡 but ... there is a reasonable argument that it would be inhumane *not* to allow the otters to do this once in a while. They are, after all, a wild species, protected by CITES. They have not been 'domesticated' over centuries, like dogs have, they still have the genes of a completely wild species, whether they are in captivity or not. So it seems only fair and right to allow them the opportunity to chase and eat a fish now and then, it's completely natural behaviour, and must help to keep their stress levels in check. (apparently swimming is really good for reducing their stress levels). I've always thought of otters as very intelligent and sensitive creatures, so I would want to keep them happy and stress free in every way, although there is a small (fish shaped) price to pay for that.
@@VulcanerdThe fish do have less chance to escape, true. Most of the otters that I’ve seen appear to eat the fish tail-to-head. Apparently, I’ve heard that the heads are very bitter, so they seem to leave that until the very end.
