    Try putting a rubber band over your yarn end on the shaft after slipping it into the slot, if the slot has widened over time.

    I have a similar yarn winder, I was not crazy about how loose it wound the cakes. I just added a twisty tie, like the ones that come on new charging cords, around the bottom of the tension bar and threaded my yarn through it first. It solved the tension problem and made the cakes tighter and smaller.

    When I start a ball I do a slip knot and one of those cheap colorful plastic stitch markers in it to always know that’s the start of the center pull. The slip knot also keeps it from sliding out of my stanwood. Thought that it might help you.

    Thank you for your candid review. I just bought the Stanwood and waiting at the window for the delivery truck like a kid waiting to go to the circus. Watching you, I said, OMG that's me when you were pulling all the twists out of the e-winder cake. Whew. I returned the similar e-winder yesterday and applied $20 to my credit for the purchase of the Stanwood. If I gotta hold the tension on the e-winder, I want it tight and no interior twists that I was getting and spending a few hours untwisting. I was winding the e-cake a 2nd time for perfection. Nope all twists inside. I'm so glad I found your video and I've also discovered Stanwood is highly "5" rated wherever it is sold. Heading to your website to check your other sage advice.

    I wonder if you turn it on full speed if it would wind tighter? I prefer the tighter cake too. Wonder if you some how cut out a circle(about the size of an old 45 size record) and put over the base to make it wider if that would let more yarn cake up without going into the gears. But then again a lot to go through when you can get the Starwood that handles better. 🥰

    They have a ashford electric winder it’s a bit expensive it’s 550$ but it’s well worth the investment especially if you are winding yarn often , it has a actual tension winner I would compare it to the Stan wood hand cranks . They come out just as tight and compacted as the hand cranker

    • @autumnmiller9225

      @crochetvision it's called the Ashford e-ball winder. They are made in New Zealand. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and my joints dislocate easily, so a couple of years ago for Christmas, a group of my friends all pitched in and bought me one to save the wear and tear and trauma on my joints. It works very well. Before then I didn't even know they existed. There's a video here on UA-cam about how to hold the yarn with it and get it started if you want to see it in action.

  • @Cdees57

    If like a sewing machine your yarn should go under and around your tensioner. Then up to the feeder. Ive thought about getting one but i rarely cake my yarn anymore. If i get another winder it'll probably be a Stanwood.

    There's definitely a noise difference between the two. The stanwood is a nicer sound.
    There is also a degree of interactivity. Like the electric one looks boring and easily screws up with knots and tension, whereas the stanwood you are involved and it keeps you engaged plus you can fix those issues as you go.
    Plus the drag on the electric one when it would slow down and try to strip its gears was anxiety inducing.

    I think hand crack is so much better then the electric any day I know it more work. It funny when the yarn flew by off of it your face . I would be return that get my money back on it. It not save space if any thing take up to much space. Feel like. I don't like it so Squishi and not tight at all

  • @Desaundrea

    The weird noise and slow down at max speed is because YOU’RE holding the yarn too tight feeding in. Your tension is at odds with the winder’s mechanics. Then you let the purple FLOP around on the floor, causing gapping. You have problems but it is all user error 🤷🏽‍♀️💯

    • @AB-nk7qu
      @AB-nk7qu 3 місяці тому +1

      The yarn on the floor does not always cause gapping. Source: I own this exact machine and often wind with the ball on the floor.
