In the interview she talks about the effort involved in learning French. She does an excellent job with the language, as she did with eveything. This was in 1956 when she was invited back to Hollywood after a seven-year absence to star in "Anastasia." I thought she was even better in "Goodbye Again," which was set in Paris. Tony Perkins played her young boyfriend in that film. Happy birthday, Ingrid, wherever you are!
WOW this woman is just too perfect!!!! her french is amazing, I mean I knew she knew 5 lenguages but so fluent? I can't stop getting impress by her.... It's funny how her voice changes from lenguage to lenguage...I think she sounds sweeter in french than she does in english, I freaking love her!
Most Europeans speak several languages. Swedish actresses like Bergman are no exception. For instance, my aunts here in Sweden don't have a lot of education and ended up as "simple" secretaries. They handle advanced business English and business German masterly. When you go to university in Sweden - and in the other Nordic countries too - most of the literature is in English. This competence is vital to our success in areas like business, international diplomacy, science etc.
i've been studying french for quite a long time. ingrid had a very strong accent in french, but she didn't do grammar mistakes. only one: une ville merveilleuse (not merveilleux like she said). oh, i admire her!!!
gosh, she's fantastic! i've been learning french for 3 years now and can't pronounce a correct sentence in it :S it's soooo frustrating :) at least, I understand what she's saying, LOL! she is one of the finest actresses of all time, no doubt about it! I adore her
She looks 40ish ~ if so, this French interview is early on in her marriage to Lars Schmidt. She was the most naturally beautiful woman. Bergman was the embodiment and perfect combination of sensual eroticism and timeless grace. One of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen ~
@glamfakir apparently it was in july 1957. i read it on the site of the archives of radio-canada (the channel for which this interview was done). she does look super young, but might be due to the quality of the video...
I'm 16 and I've been studying English for seven years now, and Spanish three. Next year I'll begin with French and maybe also Italian. So yes, I guess we have to learn many languages. ;)
We need to be more aware of other languages and cultures and to learn more than one's own language can open up the world for us. merci
@brushstrokesrock swedish people often know many languages. we have to learn at least 2 foreign languages in school. we start with english at age 8 and we study language until we are 19 years old and some swedes will continue study language at university.
Darn, I had no idea! So that´s 4 foreign languages she was fluent in: English, French, Italian and allegedly German (had family there from her mother´s side where she often spent time),
@shahideurope we don´t need to be polite but does that mean we shouldn´t be polite?! It the same thing. Its also amazong for your brain to learn another language. It makes it work harder. We have amazing abilities, why not take advantage of that!
She's the perfect example of beauty, brains and talent all together in one person. Totally blessed, Ingrid Bergman certainly was.
no one else comes close to ingrid bergman. .she's simply the best actress in hollywood..

She made more mistakes.

Seen another interview where she was 45 years old. It's very hard to believe she was 45! Such a natural beauty both on the inside and the outside.
@brushstrokesrock she was half german, and as a half german raised abroad myself, she is our perfect representative!

I would love to know when this interview took place. She talks about working in Italy (which I think was in the late 40's) but she looks so young..
Mitica
