In this video, I'll take a look at one of the more polarizing luxury chronographs on the market, the Breitling Chronomat B01. While it's certainly an on-the-nose 80s or 90s era design, I actually ended up appreciating the watch a lot more than I thought I would.

Teddy, my wife bought me this exact watch for my 65th birthday. It’s magnificent. Pictures and video do not do it full justice. Bracelet is super comfortable, the dial pops outdoors, great lume compared to my other chronos; bezel turns like butter, power reserve is great, and the functionality is terrific. I also like the tachometer dial along with the bezel…not too busy. Thanks!

I own the Bentley Green dial version. Somehow it attracts attention better than my Rolex Datejust does. I would say it hits a sweet spot between flashy and sporty.

exactly how i would describe my Chronomat.
The Rolex is just boring and very feminine. You wouldn’t buy it if it wasn’t a Rolex.
Because it looks alot better than 99% of Rolex watches...
Wearing the new Chronomat 42 on my wrist right now. The polarizing design is absolutely stunning and it’s my favorite watch in my rotation right now. The brand has never been stronger or more desired 💪

it's too small. 46 or 48mm would be far better sized.

@@Atmlifestyle nah, because of the bezel it fits like a 39. without a bezel a 43 or 44 can work. the dial looks bigger.

Nailed it again, Teddy. I was looking at the green face Chronomat a few weeks ago. I liked it much more when I saw it in the metal. I have the B01 in my Premier and it is a fantastic piece of design and reliability. Breitling have taken a battering over the last few years, but are we now seeing the rise back to where they belong. Yes, I think we are and deservedly so in my opinion.
I have the Bentley B01 and it’s a dream, would definitely reccomend
I've had my Chronomat B01 42mm Gold for over a year and I am still in love the same way I fell the first time I had it on my wrist. So unique it is a definitely worth to have.
This almost caught my eye until I tried it on and wow!! It pops fits great and gets attention amazing timepiece
I'm an owner and this Chronomat B01 is a keeper. Comfortable to wear and can be worn at the beach or just about anywhere. Great review.
I’m loving what Breitling are doing lately.
This being one that was a bit outlandish for my personal tastes at first, I seem to be coming to terms with.
You couldn’t go wrong with this well engineered piece.
This is one of the best, if not the best Breitling in recent decades. Happy to say I own it.
Love the way Breitling changed this up from the previous version- smaller, different but cool bracelet. This is now my grail watch. Having a Superocean II, and having just purchased an Aqua Terra this year, getting this Chronomat would round out my collection nicely, on the luxury end.
I have a 90’s Chronomat. I bought it new in 1997, and have worn it routinely over all of those 27 years. The bulkiest watch I wear, it competes with a Seamaster from that same timeframe. But over all those years, I routinely had other watch enthusiasts take one look and ask, “A Breitling, eh?”
I have the copper dial version. Most comfortable watch I've ever worn with that rouleaux bracelet. Love it.

Honestly, Breitling watches never really matched my taste when i looked at watches in that pricerange, the Navitimer is too cluttered and the divers just didnt feel right. This looks like a really cool watch that i would definetly try out in a boutique.
Its not so different than many 3 dial watches. The thickness and bracelet are a love or hate it. If you don't like the bracelet buy a replacement.
The Superocean Heritage is a very clean classic design.
Happy to see the new direction Breitling is taking. Less polished chrome bracelets and oversized watches.

breitling doesn't make oversized watches, but one of few makers with grown up sized watches, not just watches for women, children hobbits, dwarfs and stunted growth men with pencil wrists.
Went into the store looking for a speedy but felt in love with this watch with a blue dial, love it so far
Just got this one and I’m impressed with the look, comfort and accuracy so far. Rock solid construction.
Breitling is on an upward trajectory, this watch is awesome. Just need to make a smaller option and a thinner one to really seal the deal.
Was not a fan when this model was introduced, trying it out for fun in store this silver dial model really impress me and start having an urge wanting it. That is why I am here to checkout reviews. It is def a piece you can’t see images and make presumption judgement, in store exp might change your mind. I am now a fan.
This watch looks amazing. Tried it in a boutique and it looks even better. Only problem - too chunky and heavy for my taste. If they make it slightly smaller and lighter - I’d wear it every day. Ok, every other day in a rotation :))
I think this watch is beautiful and as a child of the 70's/80's perhaps it appeals to me more. I honestly don't think of it as "retro" styling though. Perhaps I just love Breitling? My personal favorite is the blue face version of this but they are all stunning in my opinion. Now to find the funds 😎

Get it. The ice blue with the platinum bezel is beautiful and the strap is very comfortable.
I bought the Bentley green at my local dealer this summer, after a long wait on my pre-ordered Tudor Panda that failed it’s promised delivery date. To be brutally honest, I was not a fan of Breitling design in general, but something about this Chronomat that attracted me enough to pay MSRP for it (I know it’s stupid). But I do not regret it. In fact, the more I wear it, the less I would think about the panda. It is rugged and accurate, and it’s my only Breitling and I love it.
When I wear a Breitling B01 Chronomat after a Rolex Submarine Date I start enjoying the look more than a Rolex. I also want to buy a green crocodile bracelet for my Breitling Bentley. The only thing I don't like is that they started to rush by +6-+7 seconds per day, while Rolex rushes by 2.5 seconds per week.

@PaketGo +6 +7 secs per day is out of range by COSC standards. Get it serviced and calibrated. Breitling produces accurate watches. Probably, the inaccuracy could be due to magnetism or severe shock.
Great review. I went to my AD last weekend to check out the new Speedy and saw this exact watch. I’ve had a long standing love affair with Breitling and was initially disappointed with this new Chronomat. I don’t like the bracelet pins, the lack of micro adjustment, the deletion of the traditional Breitling wings and the new bracelet sort of turned me off in pics. However, seeing the watch in the metal, it struck me in a completely different way. It’s really quite amazing. So much so that I bought it. I’ve been wearing it every day on bracelet and now on rubber for the weekend. I have to say it has received more compliments than just about any other watch I own. It is surprisingly comfortable on the bracelet, even considering the lack of micro adjustment. I have it sized just slightly larger than I normally would to allow for summer swelling of the wrist during the day, and the weight of that solid bracelet balances the watch head extremely well, making for a very comfy wearing experience. Each day I like it a little more. It’s really a great piece. I do wish they would have rolled this out perhaps as a “Heritage“ edition and kept the old Chronomat with the wings and five-link bracelet... I really love the previous versions and I’m sad to see them go. For those who feel the same, if you ignore the fact that this is a replacement and consider it as a whole new watch, you begin to appreciate it for what it is. This is a great looking and wearing piece and I think will appeal to a large customer base. While I was initially fooled and disliked this piece, I’ve changed my mind and now welcome this model into my collection. Well done Breitling.
Excellent review Teddy. Great attention to detail. IMO, Breitling is super under valued if you compare it with rolex. In terms of quality, this model goes head to head with the Daytona.
Isn’t it the same movement that Tudor improved and put in their much more affordable chronograph?
I do not think Rolex have much to worry about (not that I like either).
Yea - they both use each others movements - Tudor used the Breitling Chrono and Brietling used Tudor basic 3 hand movement.

I'm really interested in the Chronomat 36. Just seems like a fantastic every day watch. Thin, unique and retro.
It's a refreshing offering by Breitling and thankfully less busy then Navitimer. I would definitely consider it, but if I had to pick my first choice would be the Superocean Heritage II just with date complication, possibly the Chronograph in blue
Bought this exact watch weeks ago, that panda dial really makes it distinct from any other watches. Super tough and comfortable for daily wear too, what a fantastic piece of watch!
Try this on and you will be in love. The bracelet itself feels and looks full of character in person!!

As somebody who likes shiny things, and started his entire interest in watches buying '90s Seiko chronographs, this watch ticks every single box for me, I absolutely love it.
This watch is stunning. I was going to update my older 3573.50 Moonwatch with the new 3861 caliber version but I have changed my mind. I hear nothing but praise for the reliability this B01 mvmt and I’m tired of servicing the Omega every 3 years, plus I want something I can actually go to the beach with. I love rubber straps and this thing is a strap monster. I’m won over.
I am a very big fan of the older chronomat and I do like the new model.

I have an older Chronomat on a leather strap that I like. A 38-39mm version of this new one at a lower price point would be nice. 42mm and $8k is a deal killer for me.
Al Breitlings wear small. You should always drop 2mm from the stated size on the watch to get the actual wearing dimensions.
I love this watch, especially with the blue dial, I just have always felt it was too big for my wrist.
Love this watch. Perfect balance on the design and nice movement.
The two tone, grey dial, B01 will be my next watch.
I never considered a Breitling in the past, because they were not my style, but in the last years the brand went out with some interesting and beautiful models, so now I think that a Breitling would be a great piece in my collection. Maybe in the future one will join my other pieces.
Try this on at a Breitling store in south Nashville Tennessee and I automatically said this is a boss watch

Very interesting! I have a Chronomat that I picked up back around ‘85. It’s a 40mm case, silver dial with gold accents (crown, pushers, bezel screws and tabs) and a black leather strap. It’s a great timepiece but I think I like the cleaner look of the later editions as shown in your video. It’s a definite attention getter.
Thats awesome. I'm a MASSIVE Seinfeld fan and I've been trying to figure out the exact model and year that Jerry wears for the first 5 seasons of the show. The year has to be circa 89' as thats when the first season of Seinfeld came out and he's wearing it in season 1. It looks like his is a black dial with white sub dials.. Every time I find a pre 90's example with a black dial, it never has the white sub dials. Don't suppose you remember if Black with White subs was a model that was offered ? If theres any if you could tell me about your Chronomat, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

As a kid of the 80s (and all time Seinfeld fan) I always had a soft spot for the Chronometer. Breitling movement is a big plus. But it looks way too big on your wrist and so it would on mine. What a shame.

Hi Teddy, just sold my non date Sub and took the Chronomat in part ex, its the Bentley green model and even though I have a collection of ten watches I haven't taken the Chronomat off since I acquired it. As you said, the bracelet takes some time to size it correctly but once done it is incredibly comfortable to wear. Overall, I'm very impressed. Great videos Teddy, regards, Vaughan

i'm totally in love with the 36 three hander. i find it perfect designwise, classy with a tad of sportiness and more personality than, say, an Omega AT or the kinda boring Datejust.
the dimension is great to wear it with shirt and suit.
the only drawback is the movement and power reserve, but i really have to fight my credit card back to the wallet everytime i see it.
really hope they'll put out a reasonably sized and tastefully designed GMT soon...
The just released Chronomat GMT is an absolutely banging piece, especially with the anthracite dial!

WHO THE *%£$"&& thought it was a good idea to put a minute bezel on a caller GMT????
i can understand it (barely) on a flyer, but on a caller you have to stop the entire watch and fiddle with two time settings to change one hour, when you could do it with a simple click on the bezel! how stupid is that?
and also, who thought that releasing a caller GMT with 42h PR ETA movement in 2022 at FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS was a sensible market positioning?
just why should i buy that Breitling instead of a Tudor BB GMT with a in-house movement, 70h PR, flyer gmt for a thousand dollars less?
or a Longines Zulu time with an in-house movement, 72h PR, flyer gmt for TWO thousand dollar less?
they had the awesome Aviator 8 unitime and they killed it because it wasn't selling. it had an great movement and functions (poor legibility though, but as any other WT), and it sold roughly for the same price. how do they think to sell this one??

I own a Rolex GMT Master (pipsi mode) and recently got a Breitling Navitimer. The quality feel of the Navitimer is definitely better than that of the Rolex imo.

Probably the only Breitling model I like. They are usually too gaudy for my taste. But the chronomat looks to be tone down a bit with just enough flash.
I love this new Chronomat and i hope to acquire one soon.
The chronograph + uni directional elapsed time bezel is such a great combo (especially with the lumed sub dial hands)
The Aerospace is also pretty cool. I'm partial to the analogy/digital.👍🏽✌🏽
I saw this watch with the steel case, platinum bezel, and ice blue dial. SHEEEEEEEEEESH, it is a beautiful watch in person and I think I am going to get it.

I Considered this one as i was searching for my first expensive Watch. But seeing as the SuperChrono with the small Dial in the Bracelet is almost 10k or over i decided on the Seamaster Diver 300 Chrono...

I just bought one, gold/ss in 44mm. Nice blend of sporty and dressy.
I own the Breitling Chronomat 41 AB0144 - which for me is a perfect Breitling. Smaller case, black canvas strap takes away from the Polished case, and brushed bezel really puts it in a sweet spot for me.
This looks really good with the panda dial.
I am not a fan if breitlink brand!!! But this new timepiece intriqued me i a really good way!!! Great job teddy!!!

That is the one I've fallen in love with and seriously looking at the options of selling my Diver 300 Tokyo 2020 to part finance its purchase.
Looks great on your wrist teddy unfortunately it’s too small for my wrist, I even tried on the 44mm and that also looked too small I just wish they would make a 46mm
I could collect only Breitling and be perfectly fine. The datora salmon dial, the super chronomat with leap year calendar, the regular b01 chronomat, the navitimer 43, the avenger lineup and the superoceans.
I just got the stainless/18kt gold version, I love it! I had sticker shock the 1st couple of days though.
The fact the Breitling is specifically marketing the Chronomat 36 as a womens watch rather than a unisex one is absolutely baffling to me...One of the most striking watches I've seen in person recently. Come on Breitling!

I love it... it's a statement piece, interesting, and connotes "man of action." I suspect it wouldn't be the most comfortable accessory, but I also wouldn't see it as a daily driver.

Love the pushers. Hate the bracelet. Love Breitling these days and if I had the money I could easily splash out on something from the Premier range.
I’ve had a few Breitling watches and I am a big fan, my issue with Breitling is they are always so big and bulky.
I wish they produced watches which were 39mm - that’s the real sweet spot in my opinion
I have a 1998 Chronomat and while it is not my best looking watch (and quite a bit small, too), it is my best mechanical watch: It is a Speed- and Seamaster or Daytona and Submariner in ONE! And it's dead accurate.
Great design, but slightly too thick for me. a 12-13mm would be better.
I had one of these in the 1980s - a black faced Chronomat Longitude (GMT) a rare watch at the time.
It was awful. I think this wasn’t an in-house movement. The pushers were pointed and stiff and hurt your fingers when using them. They let in water several times (not operated under water, the seals were just rubbish.) The elevated bezel markers caught in everything.
Time keeping was appalling - eventually (after returning it several times for adjustment) Breitling advised me that the accuracy was being affected by vibration caused by the turboprop I was commercially flying at the time. Considering Brietling is supposed to be a pilot watch brand this is nothing short of astonishing.
I gave up on it - sold it. The experience has really damaged my perception of Breitling considerably. Despite having always liked the Navitimer, I wear Tudor now. I’ve had zero problems with that… 11:36
Was over buying watches, but have been robbed, my favorite watch was gone. A Breitling chronomat that i bought in 1988, was like new every year or few months more i took for a check up. Have also a Colt great for diving, surf sure take good care and works , looks like when i bought in 95. I am a water man and got as a gift from an ex girl an Eric Tabarly a french sailman. Is like brand new was all rebuild at their main factory in 2010. Looking for someone and try to make a good deal for us both, want a chrono 40 or 42 and can keep the bracelet. My was the same colours, just the gold on bezels and at time pins
So many watches look generic. Definitely not the case with the Chronomat. I really appreciate you highlighting this great offering from Breitling.
Same here, totally hated this when it was released but it's definitely grown on me. I really like the bracelet now but I call it the 'Bamboo' bracelet. have this on my list as possible Chronos

For the price of 8K USD this is really nice watch if you are considering chronograph; maybe I shall get one as well to add to my collection.
