I originally found your videos purely by chance and now I search for any new ones and re-watch many old ones frequently. I once commented on your site that I had never seen anyone 'draw' with a paint brush and I still stand by that statement. Feel it is somehow illegal for someone to be so talented, creative and imaginative all at the same time. Please keep posting and I will keep watching. My art is not nearly at your level but you do inspire me to create more.
I dig how you answer when asked how you do what you do ." i dont know" " i kinda just figure it out as i go " . big fan man thanks for helpin me be creative.
So cool you have your kid's expression in a painting, what a great idea. Kind of like Alfred Hitchcock would walk through a scene in his shows. I think their all great, rock on, be well!
Riveting! Can’t get enough of your work, style, technique. Thank you very much for showing what you do and sharing your treasures!! Looking forward to more and I hope to garner inspiration for my Artwork as well. ✌️💖🧩🎨
This is amazing. Love to see your recap.. you inspire me a lot and I've been watching your videos for years. I'm starting art school in a couple of months :) you've been a big part of my journey so far, thank you ❤
SWEET!! As a painter and carpenter, I love the way you build your paintings as if You were going to live in it. Solid Foundation first, then built with thought, feeling and imagination. I could live in that! Well done! Be safe.
I think I have watched enough of your videos to finally get the juices going after three solid months of lockdown with my furry boy (yorkie). Thanks for the inspiration, humor, magnificence!
Your art style is AMAZING! Every time i see it im just like yep this is the world I need to be. This painting of I saw it in person expetially I would just stare at and be so HAPPY!
I also love painting ocean especially fish because each one is special and so different you can hardly tell if there even parts of the animal kingdom😂 anyways have a good day and stay safe
Hey Greg, your artist’s statement ,well written and thank you. No need to explain imagination, ya either got one or you don’t. All my works come from upstairs, is that not what makes it ART.. Your interpretation comes through fine!! Thanks for sharing.
I am also drawn to octopi.....never realized how wonderfully they could be transformed! I am in awe of your realism? Of fantasy! You bring me joy! I wish I could get into your mind and stroll around for a while. I have been an artist all my life and am overjoyed by other artists' following their particular muse. Your birds are so exceptional, but you have to know that! 😂👏👏 I wish you all the luck in a very difficult field. You are one of the only fantasy artists that can really grab me....Bravo!
TLDR- thank you Simkins for being an inspiration to me for the past 16 years. The long version- In 2003 I had the opportunity to take the summer between my Junior and Senior year of highschool to go up to MICA and take a summer college program- I spent the summer taking Art History, Figure Drawing and Graphic Design/Illustration. Each class was literally 4.5-9 hours long eah day. I'd have A.History and G.Design 3 days a week, 4.5 hours each, 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon. And the other 3 days were figure drawing- 9 hours. Sundays students were off and were basically allowed to do whatever. This was my first taste of life "on my own" at 16- and although I had been attending an Arts private school from 6th grade until I graduated, this was my first exposure to other artists. Sure, I'd seen the art from history, and stuff my classmates made. But here I was meeting other people from all over the country and a couple foriegn exchange students too- soaking it all in. It was amazing. I remember going into the student art store on campus- i picked up my first copies of Juxtapoz and Beautiful Decay magazines. High Frustise came a few years later for me. I also bought my first vinyl art toy. I have been an avid collector of art toys since. No pop funko shit. Kidrobot, quee, SuperPlastic to name few- but that was the year I discovered you- (Greg Simkins) and Luke Chueh, Frank Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, gosh... so many others that I love. You've all been an incredible inspiration to me over the years. Later, in my senior year of HS, I took AP Illustration- my entire senior thesis portfolio was devoted to pop surrealism and street art. That was also the year that they changed the grading scale- where you could receive up to 5 points instead of 4- I was and still am very proud of the 5 I received. I don't think I would have gotten it had I not gone to MICA that previous summer and discovered your work. That exposure had reignited the love that I have for art, that even at 16/17, I had already burnt out having done nothing else but study art my entire schooling- still, now at 32, it's all I do- day in and day out- everyhing from painting, digital art, woodworking, sculpting- creating. So- Thank you for gifting us with your creations and giving us all these "firsts."
thanks so much for the message Shashin! I really appreciate it and am humbled by it. Congrats on all your successes and all the best for more. Have a great weekend!
I love your artwork! I stumbled on a video a couple years back and you have been my favorite artist ever since. Thank you for making these videos! Your art and imagination are truly inspirational
I haven't seen all your videos yet, but this one was definitely one of the most inspiring and heartwarming things - because you showed so much of your oeuvre and of your personal inspirations. You are having a beautiful life in every aspect and I hope and wish for you it will continue like that :)
I cant wait for the next one. This was amazing, you're my muse & I was so stoked to watch this. I wish you would put out a whole painting in real time, no fast motion. I'd watch you paint all day. 🙌🤙
Wow, Greg. These videos are getting better all the time! Really fun to watch. This one reminded me of when my sister and I were little and our mom would make up these creature combinations and we would make up stories about them The two that I remember were the "paramunkamoo" and the "hippogiraffapine". Paramunkamoos were little and very fast, but if you could actually throw a handkerchief over them, you got 'em! hehe.
You could prolly make a Badass Aloe/Octo-Plant; The way they grow would make for a good Octopus forsure! Thank you for sharing your amazing Genius, hands down my fav artist!!
Always a pleasure to see your work. You seem like a patient person to answer people who ask, "why did you paint that?" I don't see myself as being that tolerant and I suppose it's a fault but, that question seems annoying. Keep up the fantastic work. I haven't seen the simkins transparent paint for sale at trekell
I appreciate that🤣 . And with the transparent paints. Those were limited edition a few years back. Luckily Golden Acrylics and Nova Color novacolorpaint.com make excellent transparent paints. Try them out, they are fantastic!
Oh wow, so much detail. Can I ask how much time you have in just this one painting? Too funny, I love octopus too...so fun to draw or paint. I love your painting.
hey i Thought u were a graffiti artist from the way u paint but i had no idea :D how cool is that! amazing video btw & i love ur creature creations , thanks for sharing!
I laughed with my artsy fartsy friends about my wedding picture.....I started and stopped that thing until it was finally done after 35 yrs....good thing I had photos to prove we really looked like that! 😂
It’s nice to see what’s goin on in someone else’s head, your art has that style man , it’s truly enchanting.

When I do my own art, it’s like throwing up on the canvas and cleaning it up as I go along. In the end, I’m happy with it.
