Just so you know. When seawater floods your home, your homeowners insurance will NOT pay for damages. You couldn’t pay me to have a house close to the sea. I work in insurance and this is a nightmare for homeowners.

It has to be stipulated in your agreement with the carrier , no one there has earthquake insurance either , both are considered "exclusions" among other ones would be my guess. Another exclusion is , and you can ask your agent , if you commit a crime in a motor vehicle and cause damage , your on your own . They won't cover any claims by you or anyone else .

We get waves like this on the central Oregon coast every month during the full moon, it's called a king tide. And during the fall/winter they can be way more spectacular than during the spring/summer months.
The moon has nothing to do with the surf waves are created by storms that send the swell down to the coast, what a kook statement
Tell me about it. We get a lil rainstorm out here in so.cal and its the biggest news. Water falling from the sky is a big deal out here. Them waves arent that big.. we blow everything outta proportion

It's apparently from a big storm out on the ocean; that's why the NWS knows there's "a second swell" coming, as they put it. Supposed to be even worse than now.
Incredibly inspiring, super stoked and it’s awesome to have everyone out here appreciating what the California has to offer! What a ridiculous and insensitive statement to make……meanwhile people’s homes, businesses and cars are being smashed to pieces. Sadly that's true...I remember the tsunami that struck Thailand and Indonesia in 2004, just before the waves arrived there were many people on the beaches just admiring the entire ocean receding and all the seashells and stuff...
All the animals that were around, dogs, cats, elephants, etc ran away like hell but most people ( tourists ) just stood there...

They should put signs up that reiterate what's going on, so the person can't claim to have been uninformed, then state that if someone goes into that water, they're on their own -- no rescuers. It infuriates me that some jerks will think they're big and bad and can surf there, then others have to risk THEIR lives to rescue the idiot surfer.
I know that this is done in hurricanes; it'll get to the point where it's so bad that not even the first responders will go out in it. That happened with Category 5 Hurricane Camille in 1969.

Not that it really stops people but in Florida on the gulf coast over the summer some beaches where closed due to strong currents and people were going out anyways. Several people died, one was either a retired or off duty firefighter who went out to save someone else and died. They give people pretty big fines or can arrest them, I saw a video of someone who went out in it and the police finally convinced him to come in and he ran from them and got taken down by someone else and arrested

Exactly.....I was just there and the waves there are crazy scary. They were at least 50-60 feet high and I was told they get bigger.

What was the thing that causes this to happen? I seem to remember back in the 70's people were protesting the diversion of some river, or obstruction of the natural beach sand flow with a jetty, that causes this type of erosion that normally doesn't happen because the beach sand is replenished...

@@koollee No I mean the erosion of beaches part. We've always had big storms, but they always wash the sand away, and the sand is then replenished by the current, and river systems etc..etc... So, I'm talking about the sand part of it.
