I found it interesting that Spider - Rakis - who up to this point generaly seemed to be composed and in controll was visibly - and audibly - scared shitless of Misraaks.
Well he's only in the Eliksni Quarter because Misraaks allows it, and most likely doesn't have enough resources to oppose him. If Rakis attempted to circumvent him in any way, Misraaks would perhaps deliver him directly to Mara Sov. (Or just outright kill him.)
One of the seasonal weapons lore tab hints that misraaks left him stranded in an asteroid at some point, so it seems it wouldn't be the first time he's faced punishment from him.
This whole year up to this point seems to be characters we’ve met over the last 2-3 years dealing with their “inner demons” and trying to let the past go so that the Witness won’t be able to use them against us. That’s what I believe at least.
Witch queen dabbled in it with savathun then imaru just threw a lot of hive lucent hive at use then crow, Zavala, and ciatal went through tough therapy, and now missraks kell is trying to protect Eido from his past
The Witness has many tools of manipulation. In season of Arrivals, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep, they have tried to tempt Guardians to its side. Though it doesn’t seem like the “dark guardians” of the dark future will come to pass. But our fate could still remain the same. The Witness made Lisbon forget killing his fireteam because he didn’t know anything about Stasis and feared it. The Witness corrupted Guardians like Sola, and others, before they were killed by Shin, or Aunor, or arrested by the Hidden. Unfortunately, those captured can’t quite be healed of the Witness’ influence. We have no knowledge of undoing its corruption. The Witness seems to use a Guardian’s past against them, the very taboo that they are against. But if we don’t learn from our past, that’s one more weakness the Witness can use to turn lesser Guardians to its side. Those with weak wills or guilt or vulnerable to its manipulation. It also used Nightmares to torture those that won’t submit, and Egregore to spy on us. Being aware of they’re tools of manipulation and overcoming our demons are a must if we are to prevent any more from being seduced to its side.
@@garrettviewegh677 yep, like I said. This whole year mainly has been about our allies trying to make peace with their past so it won’t be manipulated against us or at least it’ll be toned down to where it won’t affect them as much when Lightfall and Final Shape happen and we fight the Witness.
THIS but a little more in depth. I think as the Guardian we are gonna skate the edge until we can get face to face with the Witness. I.E. we pretend to not have actually chosen a side. but for the other characters in the game they will have to fight the witness mentally, (like in the dark futures but they end up conceding and going to his side) and also even possibly avoid his "end of times" tactic or whatever he told Calus and Dark Eris Morn that made them think that the universe was ending (I assume he just Shows them the widower and sower story and convinces them "that's how it is supposed to be") I can definitely see the story take a path where we have to get as many people as we can on our side. Imagine something like what Mara Sov did for us during the Taken King expansion (gets oryx to use the bigg boom on his ship then let us go in because he is weakened and defenseless) but with every character.
The fact that he's strapped with a vex mythoclast should be red flag Numero uno Edit; saw the cutscenes again. Disappointed a bit to see that it isn't a mythoclast, but what looks like a queen breaker. He still badass

she doesn't pledge blind loyalty tho, she just uses it as a weapon and hates it, and the witness is kind of holding her hostage in the sense that it'll blow her up if she ever deviates
I think the important catch (or ketch) is when Spider says "your new crew" which references an old one. He was a gash danged pirate lord. Pretty sure we even see him swording it out in a trailer.
I figured that he was early on. Tbh, unless there's a twist in the future, Bungie made it pretty obvious that Mithrax was a pirate captain, or even a pirate lord with how intimidated Spider was of him.
Misraaks is being unusually...strong this season. It's interesting. We know from Splicer he feels shame for his actions, and this season he's trying to bury them it feels. I don't want it to come to a head to a degree, but I think the whole thing is going to come to a boiling point. I don't think it should change matters, but I do think it'll give insight to how he changed. Add: Oh, and his extreme dislike of the relics is coming across interesting. I wonder if this isn't the first time they delved into Darkness' power-and I wonder if his knowledge of those Relics is causing all this.
It’s an incredible testament to the unfathomable power of a Disciple that Nezarec’s memory still has some weight to the few characters that know of him. Like some old Egyptian Pharos, Nezarec’s power is feared by some, and sought by others. Even willing to raid his Pyramid. There are undoubtedly some parallels with ancient Egyptians and Nezarec. He had several tombs, and his remains were seemingly put into those relics and scattered across Sol. Some theorize that Nezarec attempted to betray the Witness. Perhaps scattering his remains was a contingency so the Witness wouldn’t have him come back? Maybe the Witness fears that Nezarec could reveal to the Guardians and the Coalition how to kill him? “He is to be the dying light in our darkest hour”. Maybe his “sin” was rejecting the Sword Logic?

Interesting note: if you bring a King's Fall weapon with you to the conversation between Misraaks and Spider, the Runneth Over buff procs, and disappears with Misraaks. Could be something to that but it's equally, if not more likely to be Bungie Spaghetti Code in action.
I think the Misraaks once attempted to gather the relics in his efforts to unite the eliksni before turning to the light, maybe the truth behind them is what truly started him on the path towards the light
misraaks was a genocide, he was being corrupted by the Nezarec´s relic that his father obtained drom the lunar piramid. You could be right, misraaks relic was once of Nezarecs fingers, the other relics could be other nezarecs fingers or body parts.
I like to point out that there is a moment in the end dialogue of Ketchcrash where Eramis mentions Misraak's mother as "Remebering what the Whirlwind did to the Eliksni". It can be found in the Destiny Lore Vault channel under: Ketchcrash | Collect your loot "The Whirlwind did not make us this way" I think this significant because as I remember Misraak's mom was noted as a point of fear worthy of suicide due to the shame he brought to himself. It's in the lore regarding Misraak's time with the Awoken, specifically in regards to our bow-wielding friend Sjur capturing him. Lore Book is: The Dreaming City PAGE:3 To me this makes its something clear. Misraak's Mother is an infamous, butcherous, and powerful Pirate Lord. One who he might've claimed infamy from, or at least began his infamy under her power.
I think there may be some crossover between what Drifter found on that icy planet and what's in the reliquaries. As for Misraaks, I think he was perhaps the Witness' first choice but ultimately rejected the offer. Really interested in where this goes though.
Eido called the artifact a "reliquary". Those usually contain the remains of saints. They also contain an incredible amount of Darkness energy. These lead me to assume that these relics might contain pieces of a dead Disciple.
My guess would be Nezarec. Calus is currently the big bad of lightfall, Oryx was put in a gun and we killed Rhulk and do weekly clear out's of his pyramid ship.
Spoilers . . . . . . . . It is indeed Nezarec, Miisraks's father was an Eliksni leader who raided the Lunar pyramid and discovered Nezarec's corpse(?), breaking off parts that contained immense Darkness energy. They had something of a corrupting power, and eventually when Miisraks inherits his father's, he becomes a brutal pirate captain and is an absolute menace in hunting down other relics from the other crews.
For what its worth I liked seeing Mithrax chew out Spider. I think it's easy to forget who Mithrax is, we mostly see him as a soft-spoken but charismatic leader. We rarely see him fight, the Vex incursion was the last time and that scene didn't really do much to emphasis his strength. But at the end of the day he is a warlord who has fought through hell to bring his people towards a better future, risked his own life against all manner of foes, and gambled everything on his trust in the people of the Last city, a people who don't necessarily feel the same towards him. There is no chance in hell he's going to take Spider shit, not when it is so singularly self-serving and when Spider's presence is in itself a threat to peace he's risked everything to build. In addition he isn't just shutting Spider down, he's reminding him that he's there on Mithrax's sufferance. Whether Spider likes it or not he is a member of House of Light now and has to play by the rules. Spider does not run things anymore, and if he goes too far Mithrax is willing to bring hell down on his head as punishment. If Spider wants to play by the old rules then Mithrax will answer in reply. He won't like it but if it needs to be done he won't hesitate to be the one to do it.
There was some season of the haunted lore that points to Mithrax doing some pretty bad stuff too. Specifically the entry where he visits the crown and sees nightmares accusing him of cruelty iirc. Definitely worth remembering.
Mithrax intimidating Spider being juxtaposed w/ Eramis intimidating Iraks was perfect. This season will answer the question: Will Mithrax grow from the inevitable revelation of his past, or are Mithrax and Eramis two sides of the same coin?
Didn’t the drifter say he “recognized” what was in those containers. Or more specifically it reminded him of something he experienced in his past. And that made me think about that time when he was out with other guardians and got trapped on a planet and find a “darkness” being trapped in ice
Something interesting to point out is that the Drifter knew about the relics, at least the feeling he felt when he first laid eyes on it, something from a long time ago. So these relics could potentially have some ties to both the Eliksni and Drifter in some way, what that is, I cannot say...
POTENTIAL SPOILERS: I think the relics might be the scattered remains of Nezarec. I believe a datamined cutscene showed that Mithrax's heinous actions when he was a pirate captain were largely caused by the influence of a mummified finger of Nezarec he had dangling from his neck in a necklace. And didn't Drifter say something about visiting the 4th tomb of Nezarec?

In one of the Lore entries for this Season Spider is talking to us about his past and mentions how Misraaks "gifted" him an asteroid of his own; the subtext being that Spider was essentially marooned by Misraaks which to me sounds like the 2nd in command pushing a little too much against their captain and the captain putting them in their place.
Okay, this is probably totally out there but, here's my theory: The relics are essentially the Seven Pieces of Eight. They each contain a piece of Nezarec, the Disciple of the Lunar Pyramid. The OG Fallen claimed them and each relic gave them strength. Calus has been communicating with the Witness and communing with the Lunar Pyramid. The Witness commanded Eramis to take the relics and return them to the LP to revive Nezarec. Drifter is getting reminders of his past, right? Didn't he claim to have been to "the Fourth Tomb of Nezarec"? My guess is remnants of Nezarec, Darkness relics, are located throughout the Sol System. So we're gonna acquire all the relics, but SOMETHING happens that leads to Eramis taking them for The Witness. My money is on her raiding the H.E.L.M. at the end of the season. I'd guess Season 19 will be us dealing with Eramis for good. I think this will be the case since S20 is Lightfall and will be focused on Calus, Neptune, etc. No room for House Salvation. Either that, or we deal with Eramis at the end of this season and S19 focuses on something else; maybe Xivu Arath, who has been suspiciously quiet for a while now. Lightfall begins, Nezarec is gonna be revived and his Lunar Pyramid will infect the Traveler with Darkness. We go to Neonuma on Neptune to acquire Strand and defeat Calus, who has also become a Disciple of sorts. Then we go back to The Last City and wreck Nezarec. Spinfoil hat theory over! What do you folks think?
My only problem with that is i dont think they will take the light again after spending 3 seasons revamping it, if we do some more shard of the traveller shenannigans though it is possible
Spider: "We could have everything this time. We need only take it.." Ghaul's consul: "Claim what is rightfully yours and take this power.." This is EXACTLY what I thought of when this Dialog came up. Very much a similar conversation between Ghual and his Consul and Mithrax and Spider. Very interesting what is going on.. Anyone also curious what Eido as reporting everytime we pick an engram from the spider too.. Strange reading each time we pick something off Spider.. I think Spider is up to something with these 'gifts' he keeps giving us. Super Sus if you ask me.
That's been bugging me too!! I first thought it was that our mere presence makes radars act up a la Dragon Ball but now I'm concerned about what that's all about
Yo Byf, another worrying thing about Mithrax this season is the lore of the Charge of Light Sparrow. It has a passage were he is talking to his daughter, Eido, and exposes his doubts about the Traveler giving the light to the Hive over the Eliksni. I believe Bungie is planting seeds of doubt into Mithrax. My current theory is that they will do a story thread were we loose all our allies before, during, or after Lightfall (the darkest hour trope). Theory aside, if you are starting to doubt Mithrax, this lore may be the beginnings of it.
The thing I that the House of Light doesn't just trust in only the Traveler anymore. They trust in the Light itself. This is one of the things Eido can say during the Cosmodrome Expedition, and since Mithrax's mantra is literally "The light provides", it's safe to assume that this is a belief the rest of the House of Light shares as well. We also need to remember that Mithrax has proven himself to be trustworthy. Yes, he may have a shady past, but he's never hidden that so much as he's tried to focus more on his present and the future of his house.
Every guardian had it's doubt on the traveller when hive received light. Hell, even ikora was pulling her hair out trying to find out why. It's a common questions to ask when you enemy is the recipient of the powers you didn't expect they can have
Based on the story the past two weeks, my assumption is he led a crew alongside Eramis in the days where that was required to survive and he's still guilty about things he had to do in that timeframe. Like other people are saying, the relics might also be involved somewhat, but we'll see how the Season plays out. :D
Funny thing is we see instances where they did work together back in like year 1 D2 with Zero Hour. Missracks and Eramis were trying to get back SIVA (through the outbreak perfected) to add to the eliksni power. Yet, Missracks defected away from the plan and gave the transmitter to us
I think when referring to if spider forgives misraaks, the season pass ghost shell refers to how misraaks actually marooned spider before he became spider on a planetoid/meteor (I can’t think of the proper word), when they were both “raiders”, and there is when he changed his identity to become the spider when found to claim bounty on his own old raider identity.
Fragments of nezarec. The fallen found them on the moon pyramid before eris did. They tried to harness the power, but realized it only led to corruption

I think Mithrax killed Spiders child. Eido asks Spider if he had any hatchlings and he just laughs it off. Later he tells Eido she doesn’t know what her father is capable of. And Eramis mentions to Mithrax that she wonders if Spider forgives him.
It might be unrelated, but I've always wanted a full-circle follow up on the Dreg's Promise lore: "There is a story, old as time, of he who could catch the stars. Unnamed and eternal, the star-catcher would lead the Fallen, rising from the lowest station to the highest exalted peaks. It is a fairy tale allowed to persist by the four-armed to keep the docked hopeful, placated-even the low may one day ascend. Myth, fairy tale or a prophecy of what will be, it's best to not take chances. After all, one can't reach across the black to claim dominion over ten thousand stars with ten thousand arms if they die here and now with only two." That last line just lands so well.
My fireteam recently fell apart. 5 of my best mates quit playing. One of them passed away, from old age. She was 89 years old, and she was the glue of our group. Without her, the others eventually fell apart. Now I am having a hard time playing the game, no friends to play with to do content etc. It's been about 3 months since I've played because I don't have a team anymore. Your videos are a great help in keeping my sanity.
Mark my words, the Relics are the reason Mithrax's mother is no longer in the picture and I believe he has known all along they were dangerous and spread them out all over. His relationship with Spider and Spider's attitude towards Mithrax is one of submission, like a first mate, one he heavily punished for doing something like say gathering those artifacts together and trying to put them together (they seem to be almost like a puzzle set, useless until assembled). Also, Spider will absolutely be betraying us, Eramis knows we will collect all the artifacts simply because we know she wants them, so her ploy from the beginning has been to use Spider as a trojan horse, question is, is he a willing accomplice (I don't think so) or is he being forced (like a bomb planted inside him)?
Pretty sure she either trusts in Spider's greed or, in true pirate fashion, plans to hijack our flagship (the HELM) when we collect all the relics, which would be insanely cool tbh

I just love how Mithraks tone changed from "I will listen to whatever you have"-caring and normal and soft to literally "Say one more thing and you are getting hauled on the keel of my ketch while i fly through an asteroid belt"- intimedating voice that befits a brutal captain
Byf you need to look up the ink blot Nezerac cutscene which might explain what the relics are and also the most recent reset mentions that the 'this time' spider references is when he was named Rakis in Misraaks crew and was eventually dumped on a moon somewhere by Misraaks and became a trader and created the spider identify
The Castaway's Shell from the Season Pass has some info from Spider's point of view; it sounds like Misraaks deposited Spider in the Shore and stranded him there; another very pirate like move. I have to wonder what Misraaks' past holds.
Great Vid Byf! - My crackpot theory is that the relics have something to do with why the whirlwind happened and what caused the traveler to leave the Eliksni homeworld.
Spoilers: From a leak cutscene, mithraks father and his crew traveled to the lunar pyramid (moon) and dismembered the corpse of Nezarec, disciple of the Witness, and passed it along to Mithraks. These parts hold dark powers to its owners. When Mithraks got older, he desired more of the dark relics (Nezarec parts). Soon his old crew would kill each other for these dark relics and Mithraks would cast away his old self and find a new identity, one that supports the light and cooperation. This is why Mithraks is afraid because he worry’s that discovering these lost artifacts again would corrupt him again and his daughter Eido.
Coming back to this two years later, it's very interesting to see the theories people had, and how they compared to the story that we got. Very, very interesting.
That’s because there the remains of Nezarac and the fallen found the lunar pyramid when they first came to the system and found the witnesses disciple, Nezarac’s tomb and the fallen took the remains of Nezarac to use there power. Misraaks had one and used it to try and acquire the others and in doing so drive the fallen to become pirate like.
I feel like we will learn that a dark group of the Eliksni perhaps summoned the Darkness to Riis or perhaps to Sol at some point. Interested fully in what the Drifter knows and researches
Your line "Perhaps, much like old pirate treasures of legend, the relics' mystery may in fact be a curse.", got my gears turning as to the identity of these relics, and I believe I have an answer. This basis mainly comes from two different things, one of which is a leaked cutscene of which I have not watched, but I have seen the name attached to it, and an old conversation between the Drifter and Shin Malphur. As for that cutscene, it holds a name that we've recently speculated about and believed would reappear later this year, and that name is... Nezarec, Disciple of the Witness. As I said before, I have not watched the cutscene (and I would appreciate it if no one spoiled it here, not even saying how right or wrong my speculation might be), so this theory comes purely from my own mind. As for what that theory is, I believe the connection between the artifacts and Nezarec is that the artifacts ARE Nezarec. The best comparison I can think of is one I'm not well versed in, and that's the Horcruxes from the Harry Potter book series, as, from my understanding, they're multiple objects each holding a fraction of Voldemort's power, and as such, it's imperative that they cannot be reunited, otherwise he will be fully formed and at full strength. I suspect that Nezarec is in a similar situation with these dark artifacts, each containing a part of him, with the Witness sending out Eramis to reunite the artifacts and bring about Nezarec's return for reasons that remain unknown. The conversation between the Drifter and Shin potentially corroborates this idea, as the conversation starts off with various unheard of myths, one of which is the Fourth Tomb of Nezarec, and if these artifacts are pieces of Nezarec, it would perfectly explain the fact that he has multiple tombs, each tomb housing an artifact that contains part of him. As for why Nezarec's split apart like this, this is where things become much more speculative, but I believe it was done to seal his curse, whatever that may have been, but who decided to seal that curse? The Eliksni. As for why I believe this to be the case in some way, the lore surrounding Rhulk, the Worm Gods, and the Hive that we have learned from The Witch Queen gives us an idea of the Witness's recruitment methods for its forces: It sends in one of its disciples to a world where the Traveler awaits its people, such as Fundament or, as this theory suggests, Riis, and the disciple convinces some sort of high power, such as Rhulk to the Worm Gods in the case of the Hive, to convince the populace of the world to follow the Witness through some sort of deceit, and the Witness may have sent Nezarec to recruit the Eliksni, but, while it seems that they may have been initially convinced by Nezarec, they saw through the deceit placed by Nezarec & the Witness, sealing away Nezarec into the artifacts through currently unknown means. After this happened, the Witness retaliated, bringing forth the Whirlwind, decimating the Eliksni and forcing the Traveler to leave Riis. The Witness preys on the susceptible and feeds them lies to see its vision fulfilled, and those that refuse to follow it suffer from great disasters that leave their people in ruin. I suspect that the Witness chose Eramis to do its bidding now because she doesn't fully understand the significance of the artifacts, while figures such as Mithrax and the Spider are at least somewhat aware, similar to how we discovered the truth about the Hive that even Savathûn didn't know of in The Witch Queen. This is what Mithrax might be refusing to tell us, and why he's angered by the Spider's gamble of using such power again, because he understands the curse of Nezarec and wishes to keep that power sealed away forever. I've further realized that the season pass Exotic, the Delicate Tomb, potentially corroborates this idea further. From the exotic itself being named a "tomb" to the entirety of its lore tab, with many of its lines making sense to have been spoken from one of the Witness's disciples.
Wasn't there a datamined cutscene where it revealed Misraaks had a finger of Nezarec with him, because his mother found Nezarec's body in the Lunar Pyramid? Maybe that could have some influence on his hatred toward the dark artifacts
Maybe just me, but the artifacts containing darkness stuff like lead covering radiation reminds me of when drifter was talking about the planet they found with the monsters when his crew all killed each other. Because those monsters if they drained light by being there and if controllable would be a hell of a weapon to use against guardians protecting the traveller
Misraaks is giving me major "The past shall be kept where it belongs, and I will ensure it stays that way, no matter the cost." vibes, and it's low-key scaring me
I'm in the weirdest situation, having accidentally seen a leaked cutscene from a future week. I WILL NOT speak about it, but with the way Byf handles the video it does intrigue me more about the context in which that scene is revealed as well as how it takes place in the grand narrative being weaved. I will say that knowing it does help keep this seasons story connected to the past 2 seasons since it feels disconnected and unique. Really curious where this story goes
I'm calling it now - in the seasonal grand finale, Eramis and her crew raid the HELM grand-scale and seize both the artifacts and kidnap Eido at the same time. Eramis reveals she was playing 4D chess the whole time and "allowing" us to gather all the artifacts so she could snatch them all at once, along with a valuable hostage. This then leads into that Mithrax versus Eramis swordfight we saw in the trailer.
And spider want to do the ghaul but mithrax isn't letting him so He is happy to join the traveler again He does not need to tell He will tell when time is right😉
Gotta just say i love to watch how much mithrax has grown as a character through the years just from being a simple fallen captain we could kill on titan to one of the cooler and a main character of the story cant wait to see more of this season to see what mithrax will have to do and also seeing spider sound scared for once ahh amazing xD
The relics contain the remains of Nezarac that were looted from the pyramid ship on Luna, and were used as a source of darkness power, like how Eramis used the shards to use Statis.
The hideout this week was totally a rehash of the lost sector in the Mars campaign that had crow’s ship crashed in it. Ma'adim Subterrane - Glacial Drift
I think we’re looking for the “nine pieces of eight” 😂 But on a serious note, a collection of things that’ll summon something from the Dark. Maybe Missraks is/was one of those pirates from back then that was on the chase for such objectives during their “long drift”.
Hey Byf, I drive alot so I listen to alot of your videos present and past and I found something interesting. In an old video called "allegiance quest, drifter vs vangard" you read a passage in which the drifter is described polishing a glove. A weapon to my knowledge we hadn't heard about and now that we know about their creation and their links to rhulk and the witness, it gives weight to him saying he's been to nezarecs tomb. Perhaps he found it on that distant lightness world. Either way I think we're in for some big things this season, especially with the ending of the most recent story beat. Seems he also is hiding information much like mythraks
The fact that *immediately* as soon as Misraaks threatens Spider, and he instantly backs off and wards off Misraaks' anger right away, and we know that Spider is the kind of person that even Mara Sov deals with carefully, tells us a lot.
It occurs to me that infamous, terrifying pirate fleets of legend don't typically form without leadership. It also occurs that we've never been told who that great leader was. Many assume Eramis, but... She doesn't have the "fearsome Pirate Lord" vibe - she has the "vicious enforcer 1st mate" kind of vibe. I suspect that we may all be far more familiar with the Pirate Lord than we ever suspected...
Spider, or Rakis, definitely seems absolutely terrified of Misraaks. And Spider is not one to be scared of something. The only other time we've seen Spider like this was when he was on the run from Mara Sov and the Reef. So if Spider is giving off the same vibes because of Misraaks, that really makes you question just how powerful and dangerous the Light Kell really is.

Hey Byf, I got a question/topic about ghosts for you if you have any info on it. 2 actually. First, we know ghosts came from the traveler when it "died" the first time, but guardians would continue to be found many years afterwords. Did these ghosts take that long to find a suitable guardian, were they inherited from other dead guardians (though I would think the ghost would just res the first guardian), or did the traveler continue to spew ghosts long after the first burst? Second, about the ghosts of the warlords. Did the ghosts never try to speak against their misuse of power or rebel? I have never even heard of a warlord interacting with or being attached to any ghost. I would think the ghosts personality would possibly prevent it from helping or reviving the warlord but also why would a ghost ever pick someone who would become a warlord in the first place?
My prediction is based on what the Fallen has historically always been after: The Traveler. I think these relics have the power to bind the Traveler in some way that would help the Fallen claim it for themselves
I think those relics may contain parts of a discipline who was punished, but by containing so much darkness in his body, the witness found use in scattering the pieces, which potentially corrupt someone’s mind, although they are in a very well made container. Maybe someone defeated a disciple and sealed their remains as to attempt to remove this being.
I think the relics are related to the initial defeat of the eliksni in our system, imo spider is saying that maybe they can take back their place before the whirlwind/ they were left by the Trav
This is my theory. And this is thanks to a lora video someone made last season talking about drifters last with Shin Malphur. This week drifter said the relics remind him of something he has seen in the past. The Witness is the one commanding eramis to look for these relics. Last season we got more lore surrounding Nezarec and found out they were a disciple or possible disciple of the witness. The relics contain darkness in them. Drifter has been to the tombs of Nezarec apparently. So I feel like these relics are connected to him in some way.
I know why Mithrax is apprehensive this season and for good reason. I won’t spoil why, but I think it shows he was called the Forsaken and has gone so far out of his way to make amends as well as redeem himself and his people. Why he’s been so kind and patient with people who’ve resented him or harmed his people. And why he’s threatened The Spider/Rakis when he tried to talk him into using these artifacts. He’s knows what his darkest hour was..and he wants to find the light again.
I do wonder if the secret of the relics has something to do with the loretab of Cry Mutiny, the pursuit weapon. Because that story talks about an Eliksni who seemingly during the Long Drift encounters the Voice in the Dark, aka The Witness who comes with promises.
I found it interesting that Spider - Rakis - who up to this point generaly seemed to be composed and in controll was visibly - and audibly - scared shitless of Misraaks.

One of the seasonal weapons lore tab hints that misraaks left him stranded in an asteroid at some point, so it seems it wouldn't be the first time he's faced punishment from him.
This whole year up to this point seems to be characters we’ve met over the last 2-3 years dealing with their “inner demons” and trying to let the past go so that the Witness won’t be able to use them against us. That’s what I believe at least.

The Witness has many tools of manipulation. In season of Arrivals, Beyond Light, and Shadowkeep, they have tried to tempt Guardians to its side. Though it doesn’t seem like the “dark guardians” of the dark future will come to pass. But our fate could still remain the same. The Witness made Lisbon forget killing his fireteam because he didn’t know anything about Stasis and feared it. The Witness corrupted Guardians like Sola, and others, before they were killed by Shin, or Aunor, or arrested by the Hidden. Unfortunately, those captured can’t quite be healed of the Witness’ influence. We have no knowledge of undoing its corruption. The Witness seems to use a Guardian’s past against them, the very taboo that they are against. But if we don’t learn from our past, that’s one more weakness the Witness can use to turn lesser Guardians to its side. Those with weak wills or guilt or vulnerable to its manipulation. It also used Nightmares to torture those that won’t submit, and Egregore to spy on us. Being aware of they’re tools of manipulation and overcoming our demons are a must if we are to prevent any more from being seduced to its side.
@@garrettviewegh677 yep, like I said. This whole year mainly has been about our allies trying to make peace with their past so it won’t be manipulated against us or at least it’ll be toned down to where it won’t affect them as much when Lightfall and Final Shape happen and we fight the Witness.
THIS but a little more in depth. I think as the Guardian we are gonna skate the edge until we can get face to face with the Witness. I.E. we pretend to not have actually chosen a side. but for the other characters in the game they will have to fight the witness mentally, (like in the dark futures but they end up conceding and going to his side) and also even possibly avoid his "end of times" tactic or whatever he told Calus and Dark Eris Morn that made them think that the universe was ending (I assume he just Shows them the widower and sower story and convinces them "that's how it is supposed to be") I can definitely see the story take a path where we have to get as many people as we can on our side. Imagine something like what Mara Sov did for us during the Taken King expansion (gets oryx to use the bigg boom on his ship then let us go in because he is weakened and defenseless) but with every character.
The Spider has NEVER been intimated like that… that’s incredibly telling about how dangerous Mithrax actually is.

Misraaks is being unusually...strong this season. It's interesting. We know from Splicer he feels shame for his actions, and this season he's trying to bury them it feels. I don't want it to come to a head to a degree, but I think the whole thing is going to come to a boiling point. I don't think it should change matters, but I do think it'll give insight to how he changed.
Add: Oh, and his extreme dislike of the relics is coming across interesting. I wonder if this isn't the first time they delved into Darkness' power-and I wonder if his knowledge of those Relics is causing all this.

It’s an incredible testament to the unfathomable power of a Disciple that Nezarec’s memory still has some weight to the few characters that know of him. Like some old Egyptian Pharos, Nezarec’s power is feared by some, and sought by others. Even willing to raid his Pyramid. There are undoubtedly some parallels with ancient Egyptians and Nezarec. He had several tombs, and his remains were seemingly put into those relics and scattered across Sol. Some theorize that Nezarec attempted to betray the Witness. Perhaps scattering his remains was a contingency so the Witness wouldn’t have him come back? Maybe the Witness fears that Nezarec could reveal to the Guardians and the Coalition how to kill him? “He is to be the dying light in our darkest hour”. Maybe his “sin” was rejecting the Sword Logic?

Mithrax has quickly became my new favorite d2 character simply due to his very noble virtues, his wish to establish rather than fight and destroy
He has been my favorite character since I met him in the Enemy of my Enemy quest on Titan in vanilla D2. He bows to the player at one point.
Interesting note: if you bring a King's Fall weapon with you to the conversation between Misraaks and Spider, the Runneth Over buff procs, and disappears with Misraaks.
Could be something to that but it's equally, if not more likely to be Bungie Spaghetti Code in action.
I think the Misraaks once attempted to gather the relics in his efforts to unite the eliksni before turning to the light, maybe the truth behind them is what truly started him on the path towards the light

misraaks was a genocide, he was being corrupted by the Nezarec´s relic that his father obtained drom the lunar piramid. You could be right, misraaks relic was once of Nezarecs fingers, the other relics could be other nezarecs fingers or body parts.
I like to point out that there is a moment in the end dialogue of Ketchcrash where Eramis mentions Misraak's mother as "Remebering what the Whirlwind did to the Eliksni". It can be found in the Destiny Lore Vault channel under: Ketchcrash | Collect your loot "The Whirlwind did not make us this way"
I think this significant because as I remember Misraak's mom was noted as a point of fear worthy of suicide due to the shame he brought to himself. It's in the lore regarding Misraak's time with the Awoken, specifically in regards to our bow-wielding friend Sjur capturing him. Lore Book is: The Dreaming City PAGE:3
To me this makes its something clear. Misraak's Mother is an infamous, butcherous, and powerful Pirate Lord. One who he might've claimed infamy from, or at least began his infamy under her power.
I think there may be some crossover between what Drifter found on that icy planet and what's in the reliquaries. As for Misraaks, I think he was perhaps the Witness' first choice but ultimately rejected the offer. Really interested in where this goes though.

Eido called the artifact a "reliquary". Those usually contain the remains of saints. They also contain an incredible amount of Darkness energy. These lead me to assume that these relics might contain pieces of a dead Disciple.

It is indeed Nezarec, Miisraks's father was an Eliksni leader who raided the Lunar pyramid and discovered Nezarec's corpse(?), breaking off parts that contained immense Darkness energy. They had something of a corrupting power, and eventually when Miisraks inherits his father's, he becomes a brutal pirate captain and is an absolute menace in hunting down other relics from the other crews.

For what its worth I liked seeing Mithrax chew out Spider. I think it's easy to forget who Mithrax is, we mostly see him as a soft-spoken but charismatic leader. We rarely see him fight, the Vex incursion was the last time and that scene didn't really do much to emphasis his strength. But at the end of the day he is a warlord who has fought through hell to bring his people towards a better future, risked his own life against all manner of foes, and gambled everything on his trust in the people of the Last city, a people who don't necessarily feel the same towards him. There is no chance in hell he's going to take Spider shit, not when it is so singularly self-serving and when Spider's presence is in itself a threat to peace he's risked everything to build. In addition he isn't just shutting Spider down, he's reminding him that he's there on Mithrax's sufferance. Whether Spider likes it or not he is a member of House of Light now and has to play by the rules. Spider does not run things anymore, and if he goes too far Mithrax is willing to bring hell down on his head as punishment. If Spider wants to play by the old rules then Mithrax will answer in reply. He won't like it but if it needs to be done he won't hesitate to be the one to do it.
There was some season of the haunted lore that points to Mithrax doing some pretty bad stuff too. Specifically the entry where he visits the crown and sees nightmares accusing him of cruelty iirc. Definitely worth remembering.
Mithrax intimidating Spider being juxtaposed w/ Eramis intimidating Iraks was perfect.
This season will answer the question: Will Mithrax grow from the inevitable revelation of his past, or are Mithrax and Eramis two sides of the same coin?
Didn’t the drifter say he “recognized” what was in those containers. Or more specifically it reminded him of something he experienced in his past. And that made me think about that time when he was out with other guardians and got trapped on a planet and find a “darkness” being trapped in ice
Something interesting to point out is that the Drifter knew about the relics, at least the feeling he felt when he first laid eyes on it, something from a long time ago. So these relics could potentially have some ties to both the Eliksni and Drifter in some way, what that is, I cannot say...

I think the relics might be the scattered remains of Nezarec. I believe a datamined cutscene showed that Mithrax's heinous actions when he was a pirate captain were largely caused by the influence of a mummified finger of Nezarec he had dangling from his neck in a necklace. And didn't Drifter say something about visiting the 4th tomb of Nezarec?

In one of the Lore entries for this Season Spider is talking to us about his past and mentions how Misraaks "gifted" him an asteroid of his own; the subtext being that Spider was essentially marooned by Misraaks which to me sounds like the 2nd in command pushing a little too much against their captain and the captain putting them in their place.
Okay, this is probably totally out there but, here's my theory:
The relics are essentially the Seven Pieces of Eight. They each contain a piece of Nezarec, the Disciple of the Lunar Pyramid. The OG Fallen claimed them and each relic gave them strength.
Calus has been communicating with the Witness and communing with the Lunar Pyramid. The Witness commanded Eramis to take the relics and return them to the LP to revive Nezarec.
Drifter is getting reminders of his past, right? Didn't he claim to have been to "the Fourth Tomb of Nezarec"? My guess is remnants of Nezarec, Darkness relics, are located throughout the Sol System.
So we're gonna acquire all the relics, but SOMETHING happens that leads to Eramis taking them for The Witness. My money is on her raiding the H.E.L.M. at the end of the season.
I'd guess Season 19 will be us dealing with Eramis for good. I think this will be the case since S20 is Lightfall and will be focused on Calus, Neptune, etc. No room for House Salvation. Either that, or we deal with Eramis at the end of this season and S19 focuses on something else; maybe Xivu Arath, who has been suspiciously quiet for a while now.
Lightfall begins, Nezarec is gonna be revived and his Lunar Pyramid will infect the Traveler with Darkness. We go to Neonuma on Neptune to acquire Strand and defeat Calus, who has also become a Disciple of sorts. Then we go back to The Last City and wreck Nezarec.

Here me out here: it’s definitely the witness’ plan to get the relics in our hands
Yo Byf, another worrying thing about Mithrax this season is the lore of the Charge of Light Sparrow. It has a passage were he is talking to his daughter, Eido, and exposes his doubts about the Traveler giving the light to the Hive over the Eliksni. I believe Bungie is planting seeds of doubt into Mithrax. My current theory is that they will do a story thread were we loose all our allies before, during, or after Lightfall (the darkest hour trope). Theory aside, if you are starting to doubt Mithrax, this lore may be the beginnings of it.
The thing I that the House of Light doesn't just trust in only the Traveler anymore. They trust in the Light itself. This is one of the things Eido can say during the Cosmodrome Expedition, and since Mithrax's mantra is literally "The light provides", it's safe to assume that this is a belief the rest of the House of Light shares as well.
We also need to remember that Mithrax has proven himself to be trustworthy. Yes, he may have a shady past, but he's never hidden that so much as he's tried to focus more on his present and the future of his house.
Every guardian had it's doubt on the traveller when hive received light. Hell, even ikora was pulling her hair out trying to find out why. It's a common questions to ask when you enemy is the recipient of the powers you didn't expect they can have

Based on the story the past two weeks, my assumption is he led a crew alongside Eramis in the days where that was required to survive and he's still guilty about things he had to do in that timeframe. Like other people are saying, the relics might also be involved somewhat, but we'll see how the Season plays out. :D

Funny thing is we see instances where they did work together back in like year 1 D2 with Zero Hour. Missracks and Eramis were trying to get back SIVA (through the outbreak perfected) to add to the eliksni power. Yet, Missracks defected away from the plan and gave the transmitter to us

I think when referring to if spider forgives misraaks, the season pass ghost shell refers to how misraaks actually marooned spider before he became spider on a planetoid/meteor (I can’t think of the proper word), when they were both “raiders”, and there is when he changed his identity to become the spider when found to claim bounty on his own old raider identity.
Fragments of nezarec. The fallen found them on the moon pyramid before eris did. They tried to harness the power, but realized it only led to corruption

I read the "we sail once more" line as Arask referring to the old crews coming together again and sailing together
I think Mithrax killed Spiders child. Eido asks Spider if he had any hatchlings and he just laughs it off. Later he tells Eido she doesn’t know what her father is capable of. And Eramis mentions to Mithrax that she wonders if Spider forgives him.
That's an interesting theory. I figured it was Miisraks who docked Spider's legs, but that's a much more interesting conclusion

It might be unrelated, but I've always wanted a full-circle follow up on the Dreg's Promise lore:

It is a fairy tale allowed to persist by the four-armed to keep the docked hopeful, placated-even the low may one day ascend.

That last line just lands so well.
The ghost shell in the season pass sheds some light on what happened. Mithraks apparently abandoned Spider in the Tangled Shore.
My fireteam recently fell apart. 5 of my best mates quit playing. One of them passed away, from old age. She was 89 years old, and she was the glue of our group. Without her, the others eventually fell apart.
Now I am having a hard time playing the game, no friends to play with to do content etc. It's been about 3 months since I've played because I don't have a team anymore. Your videos are a great help in keeping my sanity.
Mark my words, the Relics are the reason Mithrax's mother is no longer in the picture and I believe he has known all along they were dangerous and spread them out all over. His relationship with Spider and Spider's attitude towards Mithrax is one of submission, like a first mate, one he heavily punished for doing something like say gathering those artifacts together and trying to put them together (they seem to be almost like a puzzle set, useless until assembled). Also, Spider will absolutely be betraying us, Eramis knows we will collect all the artifacts simply because we know she wants them, so her ploy from the beginning has been to use Spider as a trojan horse, question is, is he a willing accomplice (I don't think so) or is he being forced (like a bomb planted inside him)?
Pretty sure she either trusts in Spider's greed or, in true pirate fashion, plans to hijack our flagship (the HELM) when we collect all the relics, which would be insanely cool tbh
End of season theory I read somewhere. Eramis (spell check) will raid the HELM and steal all the artifacts we gathered from the entire season

The Castaway's Shell from the Season Pass has some info from Spider's point of view; it sounds like Misraaks deposited Spider in the Shore and stranded him there; another very pirate like move. I have to wonder what Misraaks' past holds.

Great Vid Byf! - My crackpot theory is that the relics have something to do with why the whirlwind happened and what caused the traveler to leave the Eliksni homeworld.

From a leak cutscene, mithraks father and his crew traveled to the lunar pyramid (moon) and dismembered the corpse of Nezarec, disciple of the Witness, and passed it along to Mithraks. These parts hold dark powers to its owners. When Mithraks got older, he desired more of the dark relics (Nezarec parts). Soon his old crew would kill each other for these dark relics and Mithraks would cast away his old self and find a new identity, one that supports the light and cooperation. This is why Mithraks is afraid because he worry’s that discovering these lost artifacts again would corrupt him again and his daughter Eido.
Bro I just want the relic that eramis is looking for to end up being the Dreg's promise. 😂
Coming back to this two years later, it's very interesting to see the theories people had, and how they compared to the story that we got. Very, very interesting.
That’s because there the remains of Nezarac and the fallen found the lunar pyramid when they first came to the system and found the witnesses disciple, Nezarac’s tomb and the fallen took the remains of Nezarac to use there power. Misraaks had one and used it to try and acquire the others and in doing so drive the fallen to become pirate like.
I feel like we will learn that a dark group of the Eliksni perhaps summoned the Darkness to Riis or perhaps to Sol at some point. Interested fully in what the Drifter knows and researches

Your line "Perhaps, much like old pirate treasures of legend, the relics' mystery may in fact be a curse.", got my gears turning as to the identity of these relics, and I believe I have an answer. This basis mainly comes from two different things, one of which is a leaked cutscene of which I have not watched, but I have seen the name attached to it, and an old conversation between the Drifter and Shin Malphur. As for that cutscene, it holds a name that we've recently speculated about and believed would reappear later this year, and that name is...
Nezarec, Disciple of the Witness. As I said before, I have not watched the cutscene (and I would appreciate it if no one spoiled it here, not even saying how right or wrong my speculation might be), so this theory comes purely from my own mind. As for what that theory is, I believe the connection between the artifacts and Nezarec is that the artifacts ARE Nezarec. The best comparison I can think of is one I'm not well versed in, and that's the Horcruxes from the Harry Potter book series, as, from my understanding, they're multiple objects each holding a fraction of Voldemort's power, and as such, it's imperative that they cannot be reunited, otherwise he will be fully formed and at full strength. I suspect that Nezarec is in a similar situation with these dark artifacts, each containing a part of him, with the Witness sending out Eramis to reunite the artifacts and bring about Nezarec's return for reasons that remain unknown. The conversation between the Drifter and Shin potentially corroborates this idea, as the conversation starts off with various unheard of myths, one of which is the Fourth Tomb of Nezarec, and if these artifacts are pieces of Nezarec, it would perfectly explain the fact that he has multiple tombs, each tomb housing an artifact that contains part of him. As for why Nezarec's split apart like this, this is where things become much more speculative, but I believe it was done to seal his curse, whatever that may have been, but who decided to seal that curse? The Eliksni. As for why I believe this to be the case in some way, the lore surrounding Rhulk, the Worm Gods, and the Hive that we have learned from The Witch Queen gives us an idea of the Witness's recruitment methods for its forces: It sends in one of its disciples to a world where the Traveler awaits its people, such as Fundament or, as this theory suggests, Riis, and the disciple convinces some sort of high power, such as Rhulk to the Worm Gods in the case of the Hive, to convince the populace of the world to follow the Witness through some sort of deceit, and the Witness may have sent Nezarec to recruit the Eliksni, but, while it seems that they may have been initially convinced by Nezarec, they saw through the deceit placed by Nezarec & the Witness, sealing away Nezarec into the artifacts through currently unknown means. After this happened, the Witness retaliated, bringing forth the Whirlwind, decimating the Eliksni and forcing the Traveler to leave Riis. The Witness preys on the susceptible and feeds them lies to see its vision fulfilled, and those that refuse to follow it suffer from great disasters that leave their people in ruin. I suspect that the Witness chose Eramis to do its bidding now because she doesn't fully understand the significance of the artifacts, while figures such as Mithrax and the Spider are at least somewhat aware, similar to how we discovered the truth about the Hive that even Savathûn didn't know of in The Witch Queen. This is what Mithrax might be refusing to tell us, and why he's angered by the Spider's gamble of using such power again, because he understands the curse of Nezarec and wishes to keep that power sealed away forever.
I've further realized that the season pass Exotic, the Delicate Tomb, potentially corroborates this idea further. From the exotic itself being named a "tomb" to the entirety of its lore tab, with many of its lines making sense to have been spoken from one of the Witness's disciples.
Wasn't there a datamined cutscene where it revealed Misraaks had a finger of Nezarec with him, because his mother found Nezarec's body in the Lunar Pyramid? Maybe that could have some influence on his hatred toward the dark artifacts

Maybe just me, but the artifacts containing darkness stuff like lead covering radiation reminds me of when drifter was talking about the planet they found with the monsters when his crew all killed each other. Because those monsters if they drained light by being there and if controllable would be a hell of a weapon to use against guardians protecting the traveller
Misraaks is giving me major "The past shall be kept where it belongs, and I will ensure it stays that way, no matter the cost." vibes, and it's low-key scaring me
I'm in the weirdest situation, having accidentally seen a leaked cutscene from a future week. I WILL NOT speak about it, but with the way Byf handles the video it does intrigue me more about the context in which that scene is revealed as well as how it takes place in the grand narrative being weaved.
I will say that knowing it does help keep this seasons story connected to the past 2 seasons since it feels disconnected and unique. Really curious where this story goes
I'm calling it now - in the seasonal grand finale, Eramis and her crew raid the HELM grand-scale and seize both the artifacts and kidnap Eido at the same time. Eramis reveals she was playing 4D chess the whole time and "allowing" us to gather all the artifacts so she could snatch them all at once, along with a valuable hostage. This then leads into that Mithrax versus Eramis swordfight we saw in the trailer.
And spider want to do the ghaul but mithrax isn't letting him so
He is happy to join the traveler again He does not need to tell
He will tell when time is right😉
Gotta just say i love to watch how much mithrax has grown as a character through the years just from being a simple fallen captain we could kill on titan to one of the cooler and a main character of the story cant wait to see more of this season to see what mithrax will have to do and also seeing spider sound scared for once ahh amazing xD
Finally getting closure to nezarac stuff after all this time is so satisfying.

The relics contain the remains of Nezarac that were looted from the pyramid ship on Luna, and were used as a source of darkness power, like how Eramis used the shards to use Statis.

But on a serious note, a collection of things that’ll summon something from the Dark. Maybe Missraks is/was one of those pirates from back then that was on the chase for such objectives during their “long drift”.
Hey Byf, I drive alot so I listen to alot of your videos present and past and I found something interesting. In an old video called "allegiance quest, drifter vs vangard" you read a passage in which the drifter is described polishing a glove. A weapon to my knowledge we hadn't heard about and now that we know about their creation and their links to rhulk and the witness, it gives weight to him saying he's been to nezarecs tomb. Perhaps he found it on that distant lightness world. Either way I think we're in for some big things this season, especially with the ending of the most recent story beat. Seems he also is hiding information much like mythraks
The fact that *immediately* as soon as Misraaks threatens Spider, and he instantly backs off and wards off Misraaks' anger right away, and we know that Spider is the kind of person that even Mara Sov deals with carefully, tells us a lot.
It occurs to me that infamous, terrifying pirate fleets of legend don't typically form without leadership.
It also occurs that we've never been told who that great leader was. Many assume Eramis, but... She doesn't have the "fearsome Pirate Lord" vibe - she has the "vicious enforcer 1st mate" kind of vibe.
I suspect that we may all be far more familiar with the Pirate Lord than we ever suspected...
Misraaks calling Spider "Rakis" made me shiver a little
The drifter did say in the last holo recording that Eido was about to crack one open when Mithraks stopped her.
Spider, or Rakis, definitely seems absolutely terrified of Misraaks. And Spider is not one to be scared of something. The only other time we've seen Spider like this was when he was on the run from Mara Sov and the Reef. So if Spider is giving off the same vibes because of Misraaks, that really makes you question just how powerful and dangerous the Light Kell really is.
I don’t remember if it was a lore tap or mission dialogue but I think misraaks is why spider was on the tangled shore. It’s the lore tab on the season pass ghost shell

The relics are all light suppressing, we also get some messages from Eido about interference the 2 times we have talked with spider
Misraaks was close to attack directly the traveler with this tech, but in the end stopped the attack since he still believed, there's the dark past and also why Spider holds a grudge

Hey Byf, I got a question/topic about ghosts for you if you have any info on it. 2 actually.
First, we know ghosts came from the traveler when it "died" the first time, but guardians would continue to be found many years afterwords. Did these ghosts take that long to find a suitable guardian, were they inherited from other dead guardians (though I would think the ghost would just res the first guardian), or did the traveler continue to spew ghosts long after the first burst?
Second, about the ghosts of the warlords. Did the ghosts never try to speak against their misuse of power or rebel? I have never even heard of a warlord interacting with or being attached to any ghost. I would think the ghosts personality would possibly prevent it from helping or reviving the warlord but also why would a ghost ever pick someone who would become a warlord in the first place?

When I heard that first line where he cuts his sentence off I was like "what was that you didn't finish? Im absolutely paying mind. Spit it out."
My prediction is based on what the Fallen has historically always been after: The Traveler. I think these relics have the power to bind the Traveler in some way that would help the Fallen claim it for themselves
What gets me is that Spiders bravado totaly disappears when Mithrax threatens him.
The brightest lights cast the darkest shadows. And mithrax is a bright light indeed.
Honestly the reveal for spider’s name being Rakis is something surprising
I think those relics may contain parts of a discipline who was punished, but by containing so much darkness in his body, the witness found use in scattering the pieces, which potentially corrupt someone’s mind, although they are in a very well made container.
Maybe someone defeated a disciple and sealed their remains as to attempt to remove this being.

I think the relics are related to the initial defeat of the eliksni in our system, imo spider is saying that maybe they can take back their place before the whirlwind/ they were left by the Trav

This is my theory. And this is thanks to a lora video someone made last season talking about drifters last with Shin Malphur.
This week drifter said the relics remind him of something he has seen in the past.
The Witness is the one commanding eramis to look for these relics. Last season we got more lore surrounding Nezarec and found out they were a disciple or possible disciple of the witness. The relics contain darkness in them.
Drifter has been to the tombs of Nezarec apparently. So I feel like these relics are connected to him in some way.
I know why Mithrax is apprehensive this season and for good reason.
I won’t spoil why, but I think it shows he was called the Forsaken and has gone so far out of his way to make amends as well as redeem himself and his people. Why he’s been so kind and patient with people who’ve resented him or harmed his people.
And why he’s threatened The Spider/Rakis when he tried to talk him into using these artifacts.
He’s knows what his darkest hour was..and he wants to find the light again.

Reminder that we've heard the witness, before witch queen. The final cutscene of shadowkeep, "we have heard your cries for help"
I do wonder if the secret of the relics has something to do with the loretab of Cry Mutiny, the pursuit weapon.
Because that story talks about an Eliksni who seemingly during the Long Drift encounters the Voice in the Dark, aka The Witness who comes with promises.
Mithrax marooned Spider according to the ghost shell lore tab, which would explain some of the tension.
I did note that he seemed uncommonly angry the Vanguard wasn't prepared to commit more forces to hunting down the crews...
