    DCA, I loved the mental exercise too! I started by loving the choices he began with! I'm jazzed you got engrossed and that it's a commonality between you, him & I. Knives are, like many hobbies, more fun with others.
    Because of this, this video was extra fun to watch and I thank you & others for making and posting it. I have fun watching Knife Center videos, especially the new knives on Thursday after the DBK channel video. Gratitude for Thomas chiming in and that when he does, there's subtitles on what he just said because it's important too and welcome to hear from him on top of what you say. Really glad for this amount of fun in my knife life. Good job!!!!!

    Hi Knife Center. DCA maybe you could mention that there is a fire steel with tender that would attach to the cork screw in the victorinox and you can use the saw to strike it. Knife Center sells that accessory I believe. Have a great day Thomas and DCA.

    Very much agree on the kitchen tool question; Most kitchens have enough room for the basic dedicated tools and they'll work 1000 times better. A camp kitchen would be a little different, of course. I travel a lot as a catering chef, so I do bring a multitool with me on jobs, but that's also a rather unique situation :)

      @@MJCarrilloCastro OMHO but both SP27 and S30V are easy-moderate to sharpen (depending how bad the blade is to begin with). Both can be done on stones although I find diamond easier. Both respond well to stropping and both can take a fine edge - down to 16 degrees (depending on heat treat could take to 14 degrees although S30V might start to get a bit chippy). AMEN!! When I get a knife I look at
    A) how does it feel in pocket. That’s where it spends most its time. No pocket anchors.

    C) feel in hand.

    Wow. I didn’t think I’d be so elated to have my question featured on one of there videos, but I was grinning ear to ear as soon as I saw the thumbnail.
    DCA, you came through and then some with your recs. I was eyeing the opniel as the only real option, but, like you, I wasn’t thrilled about the serrated edge. I would have never came across the SOGs by myself tho. And as to you final “final” answer, it’s funny that I considered multi tools as a different section of my gear entirely. I had thought of getting a huntsman AND a leatherman signal in blue as my primary and backup multi tools. Overkill? Maybe, but I hike with a 30 gallon hiking pack that mostly carries water, so I got plenty of storage space.
    Finally, I think I finally realized why your videos are so awesome to watch. When you answer a question, it feels like you’re talking personally to whoever asked it. Your personable, down-to-earth, and jolly nature is what sets you apart as a content creator. Keep up the great work, and thank you, sir!

    • @realbroggo
      @realbroggo Рік тому +1

      Carlos can I recommend you take a few minutes to stop and really think about what your realistic needs are and this will help you get the most satisfaction. Too much gear just weighs you down - nothing to do with space. Think about where you're going. The environment? Are you on or off trail? Water/humidity an issue? How much wood processing? etc.... You may not need to carry all of the knives you're looking at. My combo is always 1 x fixed + 1 x folder + 1 x multi-tool matched up to suit the hike/camp I'm doing. Have a great day.

      @CarlosASilva23 Рік тому +1

      @@realbroggo Yep that’s absolutely fair. I am definitely still figuring out the makeup of my kit, and what is realistic versus what is superfluous. However, my thinking is this: I would prefer to be over prepared than under prepared. So I try to make my judgement based on practicality when I’m on the trail, instead of theoretically when I’m at home. Chances are though, once I figure out how much I actually use, I’m not gonna carry everything I listed above, plus, as I add other pieces of kit, I will constantly reconsider which ones take priority. But, I want to own all of the things I said above, and choose what to take based on what I have needed in the past. I appreciate you! It’s always good to receive feedback.

    I love these videos? DCA gets more screen time on my tv than anyone from Hollywood !
    Just wanted to add a couple things-too bad the Leatherman Juice CS4 is no longer in production, it would add serious “juice” to Carlos’ blue hiking kit. That model only came in blue if I remember correctly-mine is, I’ve had it in my pocket so long it is no longer under warranty!
    Also, I’ve seriously wondered about the lack of super steel kitchen knives. I am a very hard user and mostly stay away from the latest, greatest steels, my edc is a Buck 110 and you will not ever convince me there is anything better (yes, I’ve owned a few $200+ knives). I like a blade that I can completely wreck during the day and fix while watching just one Knife FAQ!
    That said, I would love to have a Magnacut or 20CV kitchen knife! I think the kitchen is the perfect place forget about chipping and making edge retention king. Seems almost exactly opposite to me-put VG 10 on EDC knives and M4 in the kitchen!
    Also DCA, could you do a Knife FAQ that focuses more on the right knife steels for the job rather than whatever is in vogue?
    420HC, 12c27, 14c28n, etc, are still really hard to beat in hard use, readily maintained steels. Also, why does the knife community have such low regard for 420HC? It is almost the same thing as 12c27… It is one of the best hard use stainless steels going. These are simply the best outdoor steels going, edge retention isn’t always king, keeping an edge serviceable is. However, I think the opposite would be true in the kitchen.
    Could you possibly do an episode that focuses 100% on the merits of the steel for the intended for job without regard for price or whether or not it is considered a premium steel-explore the subject a bit more in depth?

  • @littlemouse7066
    @littlemouse7066 Рік тому +2

    the new Civivi Cubit is light robust since it has an alluminium handle and 14c28n is stainless so I think it's really suitable to carry if you wear shorts. In my opinion for a daily carry fixed blade it would preferable to avoid 1095 or carbon steel in general and go with a good stainless.

One day, I was cutting up a bunch of apples and didn't clean the blade as I normally do, the next morning the blade had a very dark patina. Hey DCA and Thomas, Im headed to Florida and need a good pocket knife I can use at the beach or even in the water. Do you have a preference between 20cv and Magnacut? Also, could you recommend a small fixed blade for the same tasks? I'd prefer to keep it $150 or less.

    Take Two, Dear DCA and Thomas, I am looking for a "legal" knife that would be okay in Chicago and other "slightly larger than average" ignorant cities. I was thinking either the Spyderco Chicago or Squeak SLIPIT but would love your opinion on these or any other alternatives?

    Hey DCA, i love the content you, Thomas, Seth, and the Knife Center post. So, thank you. I want to ask your opinion on something though. Recently my wife and i suffered a tragedy that caused her to spend several days and nights hospitalized. And i of course stayed with her every second. But out of respect for the hospitals rules, i was forced to leave my favorite EDC in the car that first unexpected night. Because rain tends to pour, the car was broken into in the garage, and everything including my Spyderco Sage 5 LW was stolen. I love that model, i think its legit the perfect pocket knife. My question to you is... when i replace it, do you think its worth spending the little bit extra for the carbon fiber Sage 5? I have a dprint run Lil Native with peel ply CF, and i like the feel. What are your thoughts on the bi directional GRN Spyderco uses? And do you think its "light" enough to make it worth saving $40, specifically on the Sage 5? I couldnt afford anything but the LW 4 years ago, but now its not an issue, and your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

    KC doesn't sell Warther Knives, but if you want Magnacut for your kitchen knives they sell online only. A Magnacut paring knife for $48 sound good? All their knives are now Magnacut, 6" fillet knife for fish with sheath is $140.

    I like a good knife as a tool but I'm not a real big spender (most I've spent on a folder is $80 and a fixed blade $140) but I like to get good quality kitchen knives. I've spent $30-40 on a single knife and I have expensive sets in my wish list

      I think "non-locking tactical" is a bit of an oxymoron.
      You will probably want something with finger protection, like an Artisan Cutlery Small Archaeo or a Spyderco UK Penknife.

    Why is the name reverse assigned to some of these blade shapes that do not fit a conventional shape? To me, reverse would imply the tip and tang changing places. Therefore as the Master of the Rock and Roll Universe, I declare the terms "Inverted" or "Upside Down", henceforth be used when describing unconventional or modified blade shapes. This is the way.

    Regarding kitchen knives, I think there's totally a niche market that spends crazy amounts on chef knives. Chefs especially. But even Greenwich housewives😉 they shell out hundreds on Damascus and or Henkels that are so inferior to what could be! This has always confused me. Where's an m390, vanax super clean, or heck, maxamet, 15V, K390 chefs knife with food f&f🙏
    If I were a knife maker I would fill that void. Cuz there's definitely a void in the market. And that, is an opportunity!
