I am either going to have this song or Mother Earth and Father time from Charlotte's Web played at my funeral. I'll be dead, but I think it would be nice to share them with the last people to know of me before I am six feet under.
When the mountain touches the valley All the clouds are taught to fly As our souls will leave this land most peacefully Though our minds be filled with questions In our hearts we'll understand When the river meets the sea Like a flower that has blossomed In the dry & barren sand We are born & born again most gracefully Thus the winds of time will take us With a sure and steady hand When the river meets the sea Patience, my brother and patience, my son In that sweet and final hour Truth and justice will be done Like a baby when it is sleeping In its loving mother's arms What a newborn baby dreams is a mystery But his life will find a purpose And in time he'll understand When the river meets the sea When the river meets the almighty sea
I love this song so much. Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas is a childhood fave. This version from The Muppets and John Denver is brilliant. RIP Jim Henson, John Denver, and Jerry Nelson.
This was written by Paul Williams, for the Jim Henson HBO special "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas," and later recorded by John Denver and the Muppets for a Christmas album. Beautiful song.
Who could not be touched by this song. Whether the beauty and clarity of John Denvers voice, the non-denominational message or the combination of both. It's a beautiful and comforting song that can touch a person deeply enough to almost bring them to tears.
We had this record when i was a kid, when this hit the record player, you knew it was Christmas. Rest in Peace John Denver. You will be missed. Your memory will live on, especially around Christmas for me!
And believe it or not, I actually had the 8-track with the soundtrack of this special when I was a kid(well, 40 years ago when this special premiered, 8-track tapes were still in vogue.) Happy New Year.
I stumbled upon this movie a couple years back, my mom and her sister had the soundtrack on a record as well. They played it till it broke. In the more recent years, companies have started making records again since they’re coming back into the industry. I was walking around finding Christmas gifts for last year and I found the record! It was a new copy because they were remaking them but it made my mom and her sister so happy! I’m glad I could have been apart of their happiness :)
Yesterday, we had to put our puggle (pug and beagle mix), Stella, to sleep. Thanksgiving morning, she went into the vet so we could figure out why she was throwing up all of the time. Turns out the little lump on her shoulder that had hardened over night was a mass-cell tumor that was releasing anti-histamines. We thought we would've had more time with her, but yesterday, she ended up worsening overnight and Mom woke me up so she could spend her final moments with me before she had to go in. I sang "Goodnight My Friend" to her and then when Mom carried her into the TV room in her dog bed to sit with us, I turned this song on. And Mom sang this song to Stella all the way in to the emergency vet. Love you lots, Stella. Sometimes, you were a pain in the butt, but you were _our_ pain in the butt.
Am I the only one who cries like crazy when this song comes on? I don’t know why it does, but when I watch the Emmet Otterton movie, this song gets me every single time.
Listening now, tears in my eyes. This is all the nostalgia of childhood, the loss of Jim Henson and John Denver and the deeper meaning of the song in a wave of emotion. Peace to this Christmas and every day after. ❤
My good friend lost her 21 year old son to suicide a few years ago. She struggles every single day. I knew Blayne. He was a wonderful, happy soul. I played Legos with him every time I saw him. I'm sending this song to her in hopes it possibly gives her some kind of peace of mind. Nothing can bring him back, but knowing or hoping his transition was a peaceful one is something I hope for.
For my sweet husky, Tehan, who passed away today, December 26th, 2019. This was our last song together yesterday, Christmas night. Till we meet.....when the river meets the sea ❤💔
I could be that guy behind the door at the Tough Guy Crime Bar, flipping open the thing and asking "PASSWORD" and you'd say "John Denver & The Muppets-When the River Meets the Sea" and I'd shed a single tear and let you in and give you a hug.
Always brings a tear to my eye. Every year as tradition I watch all there specials. Family Farm Christmas, Emmett Otter, Christmas Toy and of course this special. Rip Jim and John
This was always my favorite track from this album. I only just discovered Emmett Otter's Christmas special and I was blown away by those versions, but this one definitely has a special place for me. The whole album is great, but this song is just beautiful.
Thanks for posting this. It's one of my favorite songs from the album. My feelings about the Emmet Otter special are mixed. So many things could have gone wrong. Mom might have been able to buy the tools back later. But that washtub was how she made a living. Thankfully it was fiction, and things worked out in the end. RIP John Denver, Jim Henson, and Jerry Nelson.
This album was something my parents always played around Christmastime. I never understood this song much as a kid. As an adult dealing with a devastating loss, I understand it perfectly now.
I was a tiny kid when my mom first bought this record (yes I said record) and we would play it every Christmas Eve. Thank you so much for sharing this. All these memories keep coming into my head as I go through all these songs...some of which I haven't heard in over 20 years, but yet I remember every word.
Many of the songs on this album are not familiar to anyone who haven't heard the album. This one is my own favorite of all the offerings. Should be much better known, and not just as a Christmas song.
I just picture all of the other Muppets in the background doing the backing vocals for this song and also Robin would be siting on John Denver's shoulder for this song
The one singing the little frog's voice i believe is the same one who did the voice for Emmet Otter and even Gobo Fraggle. I have this album on lp and cd (full album).
This song brings tears to my eyes. I had this album many years ago and still enjoy listening to it on my Apple Music App. This is my favorite song on this album
@VirgoGal74 Grew up on this too! Had this on 8-trac....love love love this music! As every bit a part of Christmas for me! Extra meaning for me this year....have a son. Def wanna find this cd and play it for him!
@japaneseanimefreak93 Yeah, the 2000 release of the CD is missing three tracks - this song, Little St. Nick, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I got hte same crappy version. There was a re-release in 2006 which has all 13 tracks. Amazon currently offers the full version as a burn-on-demand CD where they will create it when you order and ship it to you. Not sure if the full version is in most stores or not - I haven't looked in a while.
The funny thing is I have so many copies of this CD. One of which doesn't work and the others, I can't find. Thanks for posting. It's nice to at least have this.
Honest question: My mom loves this song and I'm thinking of dancing to it with her at my wedding. But, is it a Christmas song?? I don't want to look odd by picking a holiday tune.
+Jordan Briskin Yes and it's not possible to find the song that was sung in the movie Emmett Otter's Jug Band Christmas anywhere. Just this different version.
I maybe wrong but I don't think so. I know that John Denver did do a Christmas special with the Muppets and the song was sung on an Emmitt Otter's Jug Band Christmas special
My children loved this show, so did I. I truly loved the songs picked to be in it.
I want this played at my funeral.
My children have been informed that when I die, no matter the time of year, they are to play this entire album.
I’m 22 and didn’t even grow up with this movie, I only watched it for the first time a few years ago, but god damn this movie gets me every time
We had this song at my Dad's funeral. Very poignant and meaningful.
Pink Wombat Cinema oh I’m really sorry that your dad died
I certainly understand why
Watching Emmet Otter was an old tradition with my mother. When I die, I'd like this song to play. Or be sung.
I am either going to have this song or Mother Earth and Father time from Charlotte's Web played at my funeral. I'll be dead, but I think it would be nice to share them with the last people to know of me before I am six feet under.
My kids used to listen to this long ago. They have all moved away but I still have the song at Christmas.
Me too. They’ve all gone but I still have the love and the music.
When the mountain touches the valley
All the clouds are taught to fly
As our souls will leave this land most peacefully
Though our minds be filled with questions
In our hearts we'll understand
When the river meets the sea
Like a flower that has blossomed
In the dry & barren sand
We are born & born again most gracefully
Thus the winds of time will take us
With a sure and steady hand
When the river meets the sea
Patience, my brother and patience, my son
In that sweet and final hour
Truth and justice will be done
Like a baby when it is sleeping
In its loving mother's arms
What a newborn baby dreams is a mystery
But his life will find a purpose
And in time he'll understand
When the river meets the sea
When the river meets the almighty sea
“Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas” is my generation’s “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
RIP Dad, it's hard to find Christmas without you
I am very sorry for your loss.
Two dislikes? Must be Stalter & Waldorf.
That is frigging hilarious! Nice one! Great one!
9 years later. They’ve removed the counter. But haha lol
🤭
I love this song so much. Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas is a childhood fave. This version from The Muppets and John Denver is brilliant. RIP Jim Henson, John Denver, and Jerry Nelson.
Love this how I learned death
❤❤ amen - rip - Jim Henson - the four father of animatronics.
As well as Richard Hunt
This was written by Paul Williams, for the Jim Henson HBO special "Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas," and later recorded by John Denver and the Muppets for a Christmas album. Beautiful song.
my mom still plays this on cassette every christmas. its not christmas without john and the muppets :)
Mine too. Vinyl. Cheers and Merry Christmas
43 year long tradition (so far) for me. This is never NOT going to be a favorite go to.
I had to stop present opening this year until I could get the CD player to work so we could listen.
I love this song...I watch Emmet every year and I'm an old lady who saw it when it was new.
Who could not be touched by this song. Whether the beauty and clarity of John Denvers voice, the non-denominational message or the combination of both. It's a beautiful and comforting song that can touch a person deeply enough to almost bring them to tears.
"When the liver meets the seat"... deep, man
My great grandmother loved emmet otter, she died recently and this is one of the funeral songs
RIP Jim Henson John Denver and Jerry Nelson
and Richard Hunt
Michael J. And now Carroll Spinney
Jerry Nelson's voice was so beautiful
We had this record when i was a kid, when this hit the record player, you knew it was Christmas. Rest in Peace John Denver. You will be missed. Your memory will live on, especially around Christmas for me!

MrJamieMurph4141969 - I had the 8-track as well. Now have the CD and it’s on my iEverything.

Did the record come in good??

Peace to this Christmas and every day after. ❤
I grew up watching the movie too. I’m tearing up just thinking of the song.
My good friend lost her 21 year old son to suicide a few years ago. She struggles every single day. I knew Blayne. He was a wonderful, happy soul. I played Legos with him every time I saw him. We play this album every Christmas and this is my favorite song. I miss him.
For those of you who haven't already heard, Jerry Nelson passed away today. May his unmistakable singing voice live on alongside John Denver's.
Rip grandma
For my sweet husky, Tehan, who passed away today, December 26th, 2019. This was our last song together yesterday, Christmas night. Till we meet.....when the river meets the sea ❤💔
Smiling thru tears.....so precious...….so beautiful.....RIP John nd Jerry...…...8/21/19

What wonderful memories of my children when we were all together. They've all gone their own way. Enjoy the now, it's fleeting.
Yo, John Denver, I'm really happy for you, I'mma let you finish. But Mama Otter had one of the best songs of all time! One of the best of all time!
I had this CD as a kid and listened to it over and over...good memories!
I grew up listening to the record lol!
I grew up with the record then bought the cassette and then the CD as the years passed . Then put the album on my phone .
I can think of nothing better than John Denver and Jerry Nelson singing together.
+sailortweek I agree with you totally it's just something when there two voices come together
smile....
Always brings a tear to my eye. Every year as tradition I watch all there specials. Family Farm Christmas, Emmett Otter, Christmas Toy and of course this special. Rip Jim and John
And jerry and Richard.
The version from Emmet Otterton always makes me cry too.
This was always my favorite track from this album. I only just discovered Emmett Otter's Christmas special and I was blown away by those versions, but this one definitely has a special place for me. The whole album is great, but this song is just beautiful.
By far the best song on the album
The lyrics are beautiful 😍 and very peaceful. We need more music like this today ☺️
play this at my funeral
My favorite Christmas album. Just perfection.

This record (and the Annie movie soundtrack) were the Only things I wanted to listen to when I was little.
I was basically raised on the works of both John Denver and Jim Henson and I am eternally thankful to them
2022. Last 2 years were rough. Johnny D’s songs got me through. ❤
I love this! One of my favorite non-denominational holiday songs.
our family listens to the muppets every year. this song is beautiful.
This album was something my parents always played around Christmastime. I never understood this song much as a kid. As an adult dealing with a devastating loss, I understand it perfectly now.

Yea Jerry Nelson and John Denver made a great singing couple for this song when i was little growing up I had a plush Kermit.
This was one of my grandfather's favorite songs. He passed away in March 2019 and we played this song at his funeral. Thank you so so much for posting
no this is only recorded for the Chirstmas Album but such a great idea for Robin and John Denver to sing this together
Grew up with this album - our families treasured album for sure. This was always my favorite on it. Thank-you for posting it.
Robyn H This Is One Of My Favorite Songs
Many of the songs on this album are not familiar to anyone who haven't heard the album. This one is my own favorite of all the offerings. Should be much better known, and not just as a Christmas song.

this song is so sad

I just picture all of the other Muppets in the background doing the backing vocals for this song and also Robin would be siting on John Denver's shoulder for this song
Michael Lake if i remember right, he sat on his lap.
RIP Jim Henson, John Denver, and Jerry Nelson
The one singing the little frog's voice i believe is the same one who did the voice for Emmet Otter and even Gobo Fraggle. I have this album on lp and cd (full album).
indeed, Robin and Gobo Fraggle used to be voiced by the same Jerry Nelson, as was Emmet Otter.

It's a shame you can't find the version of the song that was actually sung in the movie anywhere.
