Yeah, according to the legend Lancelot was in love with Guinevere, who was KIng Arthur's wife. She cheated on Arthur with Lancelot, but King Arthur learned of it and banished Lancelot. Lancelot would later on be instrumental in the deaths of both King Arthur and Mordred.
Actually out of all the knights Lancelot only appeared on much later versions of the tail of Morte d'Arthur and it was originally Bedivere who fell in love with Guinevere (a much sadder tale considering he is always seen as Arthur's best friend and most loyal knight). The tale from that point on though is pretty much the same, Morgan reveals the betrayal which leads toward the civil war where Arthur and Mordred kill one another.

That's why beatem ups were so famous back in the day. The reason beatem ups aren't that famous now is because most beatem up are done by the people who made dynasty warriors and games like it .

This was my favorite as a kid. We camped at a lake in the summer and they had this machine at a nearby putt putt. Had to have spent at least $20 but I did eventually beat it. Good times.
Artorias Penndragon was a real king who ruled over england sometime before the plague hit hard. Not much is really known about him outside of legend, but we do have record of his name from several archaeological sites that date back to the 10th or 11th century. Also, "You get right back up and EAT THAT HORSE. COME AND EAT THAT HORSE WITH ME, VEGETA!"
Fun fact: Arthur never pulled the sword from a stone in the Arthurian legend, it had been mistranslated. The latin word used to describe it was "Saxeus" which was used to refer to stones when written without a capital, and Saxons when it is capitalized. The legend, i guess, called that who ever would take the sword from the Saxons (probably their leader's sword) would become king of this new realm.
Not that it matters, but since Dan seemed curious, Lancelot is not part of original Aurthurian legend. He was added during the 12th century, I'm pretty sure, when "courtly love" was popular. ( I think the writer's name was le Troye? de Troyes? Something like that.) Lancelot having a courtly love type relationship with Guinevere wasn't considered wrong at the time because it wasn't physical. It was simply the idea of fighting for something in particular, and it was really fashionable to be in love with someone you couldn't have whether you were married or not. The history behind the whole thing is really actually really interesting. I'm not sure exactly at what point it was added that they had an actual physical relationship and it took that step over the line into adultery. I'm gonna stop rambling about this because I could legit go on all day.
0:48 King Arthur came about because the French had Charlemagne and the Brits wanted somebody 'better'. Arthur was likely named after either a Celtic Bear god or a Celtic Warlord.
You are correct, Dan. Lancelot and Gweneviere hook up behind Arthur's back while he's off doing crusades or some shit. I'm sure people have already said this but I never want to pass up an opportunity to praise Dan or Arin tbh. Gold stars for everyone.
When you said TMNT: Turtles in Time, it reminded me when Grumpcade was playing it and they brought up Pizza Time. I was curious what that was, then after watching what it was, I scared for a while.
The thing I'm most excited about in this game is that there are horses you can ride. Every video game needs to let you ride horses. I also love all these unused Mega Man bosses - Mask Man, Tall Man, Fat Man, Sword Man...
I used to love this game growing up. If I remember right you get an exp bonus if you kill enemies with the same names back to back and also one of the treasure chests is worth more exp if you hit it first
Woah! Dan’s AMAZING at this game! Even with Arin’s skills at most video games that Dan struggles with because he doesn’t understand the controls, like Mario Maker, Dan’s naturally better at these older scroller beat-em-up games because it’s what he grew up with and understands how they work better. It’s just nice to see that they’re both Video Game Boys, just from different generations
0:54 Arthur didn't pull Excalibur from the stone, he pulled the sword of the stone from the stone. He was given Excalibur by the Lady of the Lake when the afore mentioned sword broke in a duel. The more you know!
7:31 no, that's called a tank. A glass cannon is when you create a character that will destroy everybody else in one to two hits, but will also die in one to two hits... Just in case you wanted to know...
They think these enemy names are weird/bad? What about one of the playable characters from Golden Axe? His name is Ax Battler, yet he uses a sword. Unless that was originally the placeholder name for Gillius Thunderhead and they couldn't come up with another name, so they just slapped Ax Battler on the unnamed guy in blue, it's almost like this was the conversation that happened when they went with that name; Person A: "So, uhh… we still need a name for this character, any ideas, guys?" Person B: "How about we just use the name we had for the dwarf before we gave him a name?" Person C: "Ax Battler? But he fights with a sword..." Person A: "Eh, good enough, let's go with that!" Person C: *sarcastic tone with applause* "Tyris Flare, Gillius Thunderhead and... Ax Battler, great choice..." *muttering* "Why not just call him Steve? Fits just as well..." Person B: "What was that last part?" Person C: "Nothing..."
Fun fact: Excalibur was not the Sword in the Stone. The sword in the stone was called "Caliburn", but was broken in a great battle. Excalibur was given to Arthur from the Lady of the Lake.
There was also more than one "sword in a stone." The first sword is removed by Arthur, the second sword is removed by Galahad. (from separate stones)
So glad to see people not mix the two up.
Listen, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!! YEARS I'VE BEEN YEARNING FOR THEM TO FIND THIS PIECE OF ABSOLUTE PURE SOLID GOLD!!!! THANK YOU GUYS, I LOVE YOU BOTH!!
Matt from Super Best Friends Play worked on a really nice looking Beat em' Up called The Takeover, check it out.
I loved playing this game with my brother back in the day! I demand a remake/remaster!
As someone who studied Arthurian literature, and who adores the grumps, this is a fucking treat.
Man I lowkey want to see them play Age of the Empire...Freaking AMAZING Squad Up Game that puts you against historic figures like Genghis Khan and Napoleon.

He attacc
But he also protecc
This was my favorite as a kid. We camped at a lake in the summer and they had this machine at a nearby putt putt. Had to have spent at least $20 but I did eventually beat it. Good times.
This is one of the first video games I ever played. I still clearly remember playing this with my dad and brother when I was 3.
The sword in the stone wasn't Excalibur. That sword was Caliburn. Excalibur was the sword gifted to him by the Lady of the Lake
Holy shades of Warrant! Lancelot looks metal AF. When he’s done slicing up the forces of darkness, he’s gonna’ totally shred it on his six string.
You guys should really play The Takeover, it's really cool beat em up Matt from the Super Best Friends worked in, it's really rad
The Grail War looks much different than I remember it. Does this mean Perceval is basaka?
"HE'S the guy everyone's forgotten about!"
Fire Emblem Perceval says hi.
NO WAY I LOVED THIS GAME AS A KID
Arcade quarter-eaters = microtransactions
R.I.P. Harvey😔
The “Law” was never the same😔
I used to love this game growing up. If I remember right you get an exp bonus if you kill enemies with the same names back to back and also one of the treasure chests is worth more exp if you hit it first
We have had microtransactions for years it was just called arcade quarters
Every time they said Perceval, all I could think of is ready player one and it made me so happy!
Arthur: Fight with me Lancelot
Lancelot: it's pronounced Mr stealyogirl
2:45 - You got Castle Crashers , but I think you missed out on Dragons Crown which was this and fantastic. Damn, Bradford has the dive kick down.
Ah, so many memories playing this at the nickel arcade... Good choice!
7:31 no, that's called a tank. A glass cannon is when you create a character that will destroy everybody else in one to two hits, but will also die in one to two hits... Just in case you wanted to know...
5:09 Look at my horse, my horse is amaziiiing!
They think these enemy names are weird/bad? What about one of the playable characters from Golden Axe? His name is Ax Battler, yet he uses a sword. Unless that was originally the placeholder name for Gillius Thunderhead and they couldn't come up with another name, so they just slapped Ax Battler on the unnamed guy in blue, it's almost like this was the conversation that happened when they went with that name;
Person A: "So, uhh… we still need a name for this character, any ideas, guys?"
Person B: "How about we just use the name we had for the dwarf before we gave him a name?"
Person C: "Ax Battler? But he fights with a sword..."
Person A: "Eh, good enough, let's go with that!"
Person C: *sarcastic tone with applause* "Tyris Flare, Gillius Thunderhead and... Ax Battler, great choice..." *muttering* "Why not just call him Steve? Fits just as well..."
Person B: "What was that last part?"
Person C: "Nothing..."
"Percival: he's the one everyone's forgotten about"
THIS IS GAWAIN ERASURE! I mean, Percival is even wearing *GREEN* in this. Not cool, bro.
i do love it when arin spouts misremembered facts with the utmost confidence.
PLEASE PLAY MORE OF THIS! IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES!
