Very nice to see James and Tobi together. Kudos to James taking the challenge live and not feeling afraid to say: hey, even the best can still slip up from time to time, rather editing it out. No big deal, I am sure you can fix tiny snafoos without anyone ever noticing, but to me, it's quite reassuring. And yes... Tobi gives GREAT lessons!!!! Thank you so very much to you both.
Why does no one teach this 124, 124, 134, 134, E string, A string, D,G string respectively? This way you’ve got the 7 below the root, and up to the 4th above the octave. This is how I was taught. You’ll never learn the fretboard if you do everything starting on root notes.
Interesting! Can you give me an example of what key you’re in and what notes you’re starting and finishing on? I’m very open to new ways of looking at this thing we call the fretboard!
@ hi James. If in A, (5th fret, E string) the way I’ve described it you’ll have from G# up to C# (6th fret , G string) under your fingers. Of course one has to know where the roots are. There are 5 scalar patterns just like there are 5 pentatonic patterns, in fact the pentatonic patterns are derived from the scalar patterns minus 2 notes. Right. Something to think about.
Any advice about bettering your skills is great, but hey guys how about those of us that have lost a finger or two on our fretting hand, this technique would not apply

Nicely done! Way too simple, yet suddenly it makes sense. Thank you!
Thanks for a great lesson. This is one of the best I have seen on the major scale.

Even the very best make mistakes at times and is important to show that mistakes are part of the process!
sweet lesson, thank you guys inspiring ideas
Glad you enjoyed it!
Brilliant lesson guys, I’ll be definitely practicing this.
Thank you mate
Can you please give a lesson on how to play 'basic neo soul grooves. Also, what effect pedals work best with that genre?
Sure, I’ll put that on the list. Who is your favourite Neo soul artist?
Maxwell is my favorite artist. Thanks

@@bassonthemark8191 Great idea to add to a great lesson. Following your method, the scale degrees would be 7-1-2 (E), 3-4-5 (A), 6-7-8 (D), 2-3-4 (G).
@ exactly.

Then you have to adapt what you do have… It’s all generally possible Django Reinhardt did it!
Playing too fast for viewers to follow would be great lesson if explained better
