Easy Squeasy - just fly inverted to lower the gear! However, it may be a drag issue, too fast for the gear to come down, so while you are up high on downwind leg - kill the power - drop the gear - power up and bring that puppy home. Last thought may not even be an option - taking the nosewheel out and re-assembling it where the wheel is forward - when up - just may be too close to the mains when extended.
@@tom4bucs The wheel is binding and must be pryed off with some force. No amout of recycling the gear with fix it in flight. Hoever I have learned that this is a common problem with this bird with it being deployed during turning the aircraft with rudder. Solution is simple only deploy or raise gear during level flight. I have not been able to get the gear to repeat the issue since.
@@FatGuyFliesRC Or put nose wheel steering on a separate channel and add mix to center the wheel and decouple from rudder when retracting; ie. only mix with rudder when deployed. I do this on several of my tricycle gear planes.
@@FatGuyFliesRC, may be just a matter of opening up the hole where it is catching. If it the control horn you maybe able to cut off the excess. Just some ideas. Hope that help's.
The first thing I thought was that the nose gear was turned when retracted, causing it to catch. Is this what you determined? If so, what was the fix? 😊
Mine did the exact same thing. I had to bend that little bar out away from the servo to make it NOT do that anymore. But it did cost me a prop. I figured mine was the exception to the rule but I guess not. I think what caused it was the fact that I turned with the rudder as it was on it's way up or during the retraction. I couldn't recreate the issue after the bend so maybe that's the answer to the problem.
a very interesting video.....you did an excellent job of keeping cool and knowing what to do ..... I think you should cycle that gear multiple times on the ground and add some high rate rudder input at the same time, just to see if that is the cause..... let us all know what you find out and if there was any other belly damage done by landing with the gear up........thanks.....
There was no damage from any of the landings! Well made plane. Turns out this is a common problem with this plane. The fix is to only deploy and retract when your straight and level.
Same here with gear. I ended up disconnecting the nose wheel servo linkage & locking it straight. If I worked the rudder to full left & right as I put the gear down it would come down ok but it was a hassle. I’ve seen dozens of people reporting exactly the same experience on various websites.
Wow Greg! E-Flight has some explaining to do on this one. I hope you get it some help from them! 🙏👍’s on the belly landing! Greg I have a question for you. How are installing These AS3X & SAFE Receiver’s in these foam planes? I was thinking of glueing the Receiver on Hardwood, then using CA to glue to the foam. Someone told me to use Servo Tape. What’s your advice on this? Thank you in advance Greg! 😀
I recently installed a ar630 in my older 1.2m Trojan. I glued a piece of 1/16 plywood behind the battery tray just as you suggested. I attached it with 5 minute epoxy. The receiver is fixed to the plywood using heavy duty (red) 3M double sided tape. I now have AS3X and SAFE in the old bird and it’s working perfectly.
Same prob w/my several year old E-flite T28 Trojan. The nose gear was also too delicate on anything but greased-in landings, but replacements not often available. Ultimately, fabricated a new linkage & JB Welded the plastic shaft, but it doesn’t get flown much as a result. Nice flying plane, but I believe E-flite failed miserably on this one.🤨
@Fat Guy Flies RC I flipped mine over and watched the movement even if you have full rudder stick out of safe the front gear will center as it retracks
I have had the same model for a year standing after a similar landing the wheel warped.. I ordered an FMS fighter front gear kit. Eflite should be ashamed of the quality of a product that does not match the requirement for such an aircraft, as in Timber they screw up the landing gear a lot. Too bad.
Well I got to figure out why the nose gear is binding up on this great flying Warbird Trainer!

Great flying and very helpful commentary.
Glad it was helpful!
Yes , same thing with mine and I have the earlier model ! Horizon has failed to correct the problem ! Keep up the good work.
Thanks, you too!
I'm thinking that if you are using rudder in your turn's while putting the gear up, it has the front wheel turned causing it to catch. Just an idea.
I think that is exactly what is happening.

Pull gear all the way up before making your first turn, or just carve some foam away from sides to provide additional clearance
Yeah from now on i am only deploying gear while flying straight and level.

Well I may do that, but I will now only deploy the gear up or down when flying straight and level.

And the last one did the same. You would think they would fix it.

Just good ole 2 sided 3m tape. And I think I have fixed the gear. Now i cannot get the plane to repeat the issue...lol

Thanks for this video but I'll stick to flying my june nite!
Fair enough. Thanks

Yes the issue should have been corrected and you cannot tell me they did not know about it.
If you You put the gear up turning the plane or in safe mode the wheel might not be straight it can catch
I agree from now on it will only put it up or down in level flight just to be on the safe side.
@Fat Guy Flies RC I flipped mine over and watched the movement even if you have full rudder stick out of safe the front gear will center as it retracks
I would probably fly on 3s
This one was with a 3200 3s Spektrum smart pack.
I fly Mine on 2200 4s and it's super fast
It is an awesome flying low wing for sure!
Anybody else having this problem?
Turns out it is recommended to only deploy gear when flying straight and level.

Many have swapped out the nose gear on this one. yes it is an issue but they blame it on pilots!
Too many moving parts! 😊
Yeah a bit much but fun.
