Good job on this video.. I'd love to see a vid where you go thru setting a full I/O with 3 beds - or how to add new beds. I'm a rookie with ATMOS and can't figure out how to add a 4th bed. I current;y have a DX, MX, FX beds but want to add an AMBI bed...

I might be missing a step here, but if you're in the Renderer or Binaural Plug-in, you should just be able to assign Input 31 to be a 7.1.2 which will create another bed there. On the Output tab in Pro Tools IO, you'll also need to set up outputs for the new bed. If you have a mono or stereo output for 31, change the format to 7.1.2, and then click to assign it to 31-40. Then delete any overlapping outputs.
If you're in the PT 2023.12 Atmos tab using the internal renderer, select Objects 31-40 and delete them. Then click New Path and set the type to bed.

Good stuff!! I mix in Logic Pro's internal renderer, and then use the ADM File to measure loudness and render other deliverables (Mainly MP4). Aside from mainly working in Logic for the past few years, I may have to consider either using the renderer for live rendering or switch to Pro Tools. I absolutely love being able to monitor in Real-Time with the Down-mix settings. I know it isn't very popular, nor do many people listen to music in a surround format on a daily basis, but it is super essential to me that the fold-down sounds great/similar. I feel like this is the direction for the future of music production. This is super exciting to see more being implemented. Good video!!

I think having a good fold-down is a good strategy. I use the fold-down for the stereo mix.

@@goingto11 I saw that video!! I think more modern producers should be producing this way, if they aren't already

I have finally given up my stereo mixes for the 2.0 fold-down and I must say, you lose a little bit you gain a lot. I'm in.

@@MichaelForbes-d4p Especially with the 2.0 Direct, it's better than ever before. I also use it to reference my Atmos mix to the Approved Stereo Master, if the Atmos mix is coming afterward. I try to keep it as true to the original in speaker playback using 2.0 Direct, then going to the binaural and panning from there.

@@alex_ayers can you tell me about 2.0 direct? I saw that word appear on the drop down after the last update but I don't know what it is.

The binaural re-renders don't really sound like the mix in the speaker array. Do you think the headphones tech can ever really replicate the real thing?

I almost always keep my binaural settings to near anymore. On a rare occasion does a mid or far settings make a positive difference. I really like comparing the Dolby binaural to some of these virtual studios, which sound pretty good to my ears.

@@alex_ayers true point. I like the way the current binaural technology sounds, I just wish the speaker array experience could be more accurately replicated.
Someone needs to develope a 7.1.2 speaker array that is attached to drones. With the push of a button they assume the position and return to a dock just as easily.

I think the technology will get closer, but I don't know how long it will take to get there.
