I think this was really cute because they were siblings as opposed to a romantic couple. With the whole romance thing beaten to death in the films, I really appreciate this song that makes me feel a different kind of bond that siblings have.
Deborah X ikr its was totally evident in the first movie. Sparkling hats i mean come on! That random romance with Kelsi was so fake. Lucas wanted him to at least hold hands with a guy in the background or be seen i guess walking with a guy to show it and be subtle but nope!

I mean, just trying out for the school play isn't a crime. Troy and Gabriella did nothing wrong in that regard. They never even expected to win. They just wanted to try it.
Do y'all realize that Troy and Gabriela sang the original version of the song? Take note they're auditioning for a certain role and obviously, Shapay and Ryan can't suddenly change the outlook of the characters. Plus it is a disrespect to the composer.

+Charlie Hughes Gabriella and Troy are the "main characters/good guys" because they're giving a good message to the audience about having the courage to try something new. Of course Sharpay and Ryan are better because they've had more experience. Sharpay and Ryan's characters would make the whole story bland as the "main characters/good guys." She even suggested Gabriella and Troy to audition as some background roles which is seen as bitchy but it was reasonable - they had no experience whatsoever. So making Sharpay and Ryan the bad guys when all they were were dedicated, driven and hard working is just weird.

I know many people say Troy and Gabriella are the true villains and not Sharpay or Ryan. So many people miss the point about the movie, Troy and Gabriella thought about auditioning for the musical, but they were too shy to try out, they decided not to try out. When they change their minds, they realize they were late. Before they leave the theater, they saw Kelsi fall and spill her papers, Troy and Gabriella came to help her, and then they learn she wrote the play and the music. They just want to know the real song is like on piano instead of Sharpay and Ryan's "Pop Version." After singing the song for fun, Ms. Darbus came after she heard them singing. That's when Ms. Darbus started the "Call Back!". I know Ryan and Sharpay are professionally trained actors, but Kelsi wanted to stick the original slow version of the song instead of pop. because Kelsi wrote the song. I agree with Kelsi, most songwriters would want to stick with the original instead of changing it. To me, Kelsi is the real star about the musical because she wrote everything. Woke up with this song playing in my head, went to lectures with it still playing until I came back and had to watch it for closure. This is better than Money Moves
Troy and Gabriella did it super well and they are literally not to blame for anything, in the end it is a Disney movie, what more can you expect, I liked both performances
1:47 😱😱😱 YASSSS Also I feel bad for them cuz they actually cared about music whilst Troy and Gabriella were just jealous Also they didn’t practise or anything! Which shows they don’t care as much
It just occurred to me that I wouldn't want to cast Sharpay and Ryan because they changed the song and its definitely not their job as actors to give direction, suggestion or commentary. They would be fired for that and Sharpay would definitely be fired for that attitude. It's actually Kelsey's job to give direction/suggestion/commentary because she wrote the songs and the job of the Director. On the other hand, Troy and Gabriela seem to barely prepare and not put much effort in so I wouldn't want to cast them either. Wow, studying acting has seriously ruined my ability to watch films.
Unless it's specified that they have to use the original, that would be counted as their interpretation as actors, which is definitely a good thing :)... Sometimes that's ok, sometimes it's not
Ice Cream Lover In sharpay’s defense, though she can be quite pushy, I wouldn’t say she actually believes she can do what she wants just because she’s rich, she’s a hard working girl who just wants to be good at what she does. If you see her movie you’d see her doing stuff like scrubbing toilets- something a supposed spoiled brat would never do and wow why do I care about this
Whenever we are watching High School Musical 1, when someone is bothering my Sister while watching it, like when someone is in the way, she's like "GET OUT OF THE WAY. I NEED TO RE-LIVE MY CHILDHOOD". She is in her early 20s.

Polar Bears That's a great explanation 😂
maybe because they're siblings and it's weird xD
Taha Tariq Troy knows that..Gabby doesn't..which explains their different reactions! :D
the nerdy pianist wrote this song as a romantical duett and they perform it really goofy. thats why she looks like this

No one like you
So lonely before, I finally found
what I've been looking for
Together:
Doo Doo DooDoo
Doo Doo DooDoo
Do Do
Woa-ah-ah-oh
Woke up with this song playing in my head, went to lectures with it still playing until I came back and had to watch it for closure. This is better than Money Moves
Telling my kids this is Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber
Lmaoo
a girl hiding in her room 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bruh- 😂😂
Ugh
a girl hiding in her room don’t disrespect sharpay and Ryan like that
high school musical brought me here (:
Shut up Brittany
This is like the vocaloid twins Rin and Len.
omg hahahahaha true
huh, weird.
huh, weird.
Omg I can imagine 😂
lmao when sharpay stopped him so she could go first. part still kills me
this is soooo iconic
Troy and Gabriella did it super well and they are literally not to blame for anything, in the end it is a Disney movie, what more can you expect, I liked both performances
This is Gold👌🏽👌🏽
I remember being 8 loving life and singing along omg how times have changed
i actually shipped them until i realised they were siblings.
me too, I even shipped them more than Troy and Gabriella.. lol
Me toooooo😍😍😍
Ryan was supposed to be gay originally
+TheOtakuKid that actually explains alot.
iluvKeverything l
High school musical best movie EVER!
Love this version of Ryan and Sharpay😍
1:47 😱😱😱 YASSSS
Also I feel bad for them cuz they actually cared about music whilst Troy and Gabriella were just jealous
Also they didn’t practise or anything! Which shows they don’t care as much
I love this song amaizing
10 years later and this scene is still iconic ❤❤
I am so glad I grew up watching High School Musical Movies ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Omg I remember this childhood movie, it will always be a number one movie from Disney. No other new Disney channel movie could ever beat this.
Sometimes that's ok, sometimes it's not
Jo and
EilsTheDaydreamer well it is high school
Calmmmmmmm down its a film
Ice Cream Lover In sharpay’s defense, though she can be quite pushy, I wouldn’t say she actually believes she can do what she wants just because she’s rich, she’s a hard working girl who just wants to be good at what she does. If you see her movie you’d see her doing stuff like scrubbing toilets- something a supposed spoiled brat would never do and wow why do I care about this
10 years have past and I still love and listen to this iconic song
Whenever we are watching High School Musical 1, when someone is bothering my Sister while watching it, like when someone is in the way, she's like "GET OUT OF THE WAY. I NEED TO RE-LIVE MY CHILDHOOD". She is in her early 20s.
Ryan and Sharpay's performances were always the best
If people were that passionate about theater arts in high school in real life, I’m sure everyone would be pleased!
Better than Troy and Gabriella.
2015 remembering my Elementary school.
Kelsey asks 'what key' like she’s bout to transpose on the fly. Damn
The best song in the franchise.
Name a more iconic duo I will wait
I love this version 👏😍
