Orange may be the most radiant colour, a beautiful link in the strong chain of a connected appearance. The key to feeling natural and real, rather than costume or resort, is choosing the right one. I hope this video helps you orient your own colouring in the world of orange fashion and cosmetics. Warmer Seasons have more versions and may use the one shown in the video as a reference for other oranges that 'could have grown on the same tree'.
ADORE the deeper explanation as to why. The function of the world and how those characteristics help to define the seasons coloring. As a Summer it's a little sad that there isn't something identifiable as "orange" but more yellow touched pinks. It is still very useful to identify the slight yellow undertone in the magentas and clay examples. Also enjoyed seeing how to work the color into practical outfits and principles we can use in our own decision making.
The magic of colours is what they can do together that they can't do apart. That might be one of the magics of people too :) But it's true, we couldn't paint any person using every or any colour, and they couldn't dress well that way either, including even neutrals like black and navy blue. What makes up for it is knowing how to choose and work with the colours that resonate with us and enjoy the rest on other people.
I am a soft summer who gets a lot of gold in my hair from the sun in late summer and early fall (in the winter and spring, I am quite pale and my hair is a cool ashy brown). During the right time of year, I can DEFINITELY get away with borrowing soft autumn colors. In fact, that very burnt orange is one of my go to early fall colors. If you are a cool summer, it might not work for you, but if you are a warmer summer, it’s worth experimenting
I think this is a wonderful presentation focusing on one color. I think, it would be totally ok to say though that certain summer or even winter types just don't have much orange they can wear. For these rather more exotic colors that is just what it is, imo. You indirectly allude to it, by showing us pinks, browns or other substitutes, which is good, but it still means, summers have to stay largely clear of oranges, and for winter it depends, as you totally show in the video. You will find more fashion use for some of the more saffron or mustard colors, if you start including more ethnic looks. There are tons of spice colors worn all over India, Pakistan, including the colors that you indicated nobody should wear. And I agree with you that those models in the pictures probably should not wear these colors. If you google India and colors, you will get exactly that mustard color front and center, but also parts of Africa and South America will wear these colors. This will be true not only for orange, but also for yellow, red, brown, and green. Finally, that gorgeous winter color - more a cinnamon brown than orange -like you said, I could totally see you wearing that. It plays off of your hair color beautifully.
I appreciate your comments and agree with all that you said. Every Season has colours in their traditional version or a related colour and it helps to know ours. It's quite true that certain colours appear as part of culture and custom in other countries and I respect that people in those places have different desired outcomes with appearance, but if the person were sitting in front of the mirror and we applied the same criteria for colour harmony as we do with all skin tones, we might find that those colours create certain optical effects that are not in their favour. Historical reasons for choosing colours, or geographic, faith, media, and other influences are important, but they may not be flattering in terms of the person's natural colouring by the defined criteria of a colour analysis...and nor do they have to be. We dress for all sorts of reasons, good reasons, like the love of faded denim that we see in North America. I've always been fascinated by how people with a certain cultural heritage in their physical appearance can look so beautiful in the traditional dress of that culture; it's not coincidence, more like a parallel evolution of culture and apparel. Thank you, you're kind to say so. Any good choices I make relating to both colour and style come from colour and line analyses I've had. Before those, I'm the person who couldn't choose one colour or style that was a good choice, let alone a great one. Good to know we can get better with time!
I'm a dark winter, 65 years old. I love that color you call dark coral. I have a mahogany colored jacket that is my favorite. It's like that but a bit darker. 😊👍👍
Thank you for sharing that, I've often wondered if I'm the only one who loves that colour! DW also has a red-orange, like intense redwood or. maybe spaghetti sauce that I'd only use in small areas and never as makeup, but dark coral, I could live in it.
Thanks :) It's funny how colours that are quite far from us still react with our colouring. I'm thinking of the colour analysis where the client is being draped in the mirror and the viewer on the other side of the table is watching the colour react with the analyst standing behind the client. Also interesting how the tiniest area of colour can have a strong impact, like a tiny gem or stone in an earring or necklace. Actually, my skin tone is probably not as warm or saturated as it appears in the video.
As an olive tone, I was so excited to see your suggestions for soft summer! Funny how they're not even close to what the hardware store guy would consider orange at all :) Your videos have been very helpful and I'm hoping you share more tips for dressing an olive complexion
Glad to know the videos have helped! About olive tones, I wouldn't approach them too differently from other persons within the same Season. The Seasons have wide appearance diversity, but the basic use of colour seems the same to me. As I think about the olive-toned Summer, I come back to starting with the Season basics and fine-tuning based on the individual colouring, rather than solutions particular to olive tones. Winter also can have skin tones from lightest to darkest, including olive, but once we know which type of Winter, the fine-tuning revolves around the individual's reactions to colours. I have more experience with olive skin tones in Winter and some are better in red cosmetics than fuchsia and wear bright colour easily, others are fabulous in red-violet cosmetics and wear the softer versions, where Winter and Summer approach one another, all of this to say we try a few things to find our best places.
@@ChristineScaman I am olive skin and a deep winter 🤔 I think the red violet cosmetics suits me better than the red ones. I can not wear very bright colors. They overpower me. My hair is dark but my eyebrows are soft.I do need some intensity in the color though or I would appear dull. I think I could wear some colors of the summer pallette. The darkest colors may be....I have heard of a color analysis system called color breeze....they have more winters...like cool deep winter, deep winter, smokey soft winter, toasted soft winter, several clear winters as well 😀. I think it all depends how far you can go wearing the colors of sister pallettes. For me into deep autumn and the summer may be.
This is very helpful. Side by side comparisons help my eyes see subtle differences. As a Soft season, I would also find it helpful to be able to see SSu and SA next to each other.

17:58 That's one pro of being soft summer. You get the dressy vintage looking pieces on clearance more often because they don't sell as much as others.
I have been wondering why my warmskin next of kin hates orange. I think you explained it. I’ll have an extra look at what is going on with the brightness and tone next time I hear a complaint. Now I will guess how that related to the person’s own color. My soft autumn mom always talks about colors being «too sharp». She has been tested. I would not have guessed that color palette for her, as she used to have almost black hair, and has been wearing blue a lot better than me, a dark autumn.
I'm glad the video offered a new way of looking at this colour. Sharp is such an interesting word here, how a colour looks and feels to a person often relates back to them, whether they know their Season or not. Compliments are often that way too, where "I love the dress you're wearing." actually means "I think I would look and feel well in that colour." without any reference to you in the dress :)

This was very helpful! I was analysed Winter in 4 seasons back in the eighties and thought orange was not available to me but was puzzled that some do seem to work. I like your description of 'synthetic orange' and the tip that Winter orange would lean into red.

Pumpkin orange for me and not so near the face and harvest coral as a deep winter 😀. I am getting used to my deep winter palette. Sometimes I have the feeling that winters even the deep winter is so in command which I like but I have my gentle, my soft and vulnerable part and I don't know how to show it.I do like mistery. The mystery of black and deep purple in my palette but sometimes I want to be transparent. I like people get the impression what you see is what you get. No hiding.

Orange and yellow can be particular for Winters, orange possibly more than yellow. Many Winters wouldn't wear these colours in a large area even if the shade were perfect, but as an accent, they can add amazing energy to the impression we make.
Ah well. I'm a true summer but love wearing a warmer, darker shade of orange. If I could get away with it, half my wardrobe would be autumn colours since I love them so much, even if they don't look as good on me.
Many people gravitate towards Autumn colours for many reasons. I love the warm and comfortable fabrics as much as the colours. Like you, the appearance trade-off when I wear them isn't in my favour, but I wish it were :)

Useful is good! At times, certain Seasons can seem to reflect some of their colours, often Summer types, but it's exactly as you say, the reflection either makes sense with the skin tones or doesn't, like any shadow. Thank you for sharing your observation!
Christine, I really appreciate your work and this video format (one colour, 12 Season comparison, one by one and side by side) is especially informative for me. I’ve just read your chapter about my Season (I’m a Bright Spring) and feel very inspired by it. A year after my analysis I feel I’m ready to go a bit deeper into my Season, not only with the colours but also with some style changes (also ready to ditch winter black and to introduce lightness). It saddened me a bit to learn that I cannot wear synthetic orange (I really love it) but also you gave here a great tip on how to assimilate other palettes into our outfits, so I will improve my synthetic orange clothes with more delicate Bright Spring oranges.
I love how you're taking your Season in levels. It's the best way to give your evolving perceptions time to adjust and be ready for the next step. I don't see a need to give up synthetic orange, rather adapt the size and placement. BSp is a little less saturated than BW but they wear synthetic colour well in the spirit of play and a light heart, say a print, a bathing suit cover up. There's so much synthetic colour out there in awesome clothes, and if not for the Brights, then who?
Thank you for this! I am incredibly bad at seeing warmth vs cool. Knowing I am cool makes me buy too soft colors thinking the cooler the better, and never getting it quite right. Seeing the true summer colors in the picture with the three different oranges, which in My eyes are warm, I understand why I go wrong all the time. I look at the soft summer thinking that is cool. That'sthe one I usually go for, but it doesn't suit me...
I think most people have similar tendencies to confuse the colour dimensions, meaning they choose soft for cool or bright for warm. The important thing is not to expect yourself to do what nobody can do, which is position colour without direct comparison. If you had two orange items, you might not know which was technically cool but you could see which was lighter, brighter, redder, softer, and so on. Once you have the colour into one of the 4 main Season groups, then you can refine a bit more, with all sorts of tips throughout the videos for making those choices.
Great that you found it. It's a rare colour to find in textile, and even more rare to find an orange that interacts reasonably well with Dark Winter's palette.

Well, nearly every 12 season color test I take online types me as a "Light Summer", and that always seemed wrong to me, but this video made it clear that I'm a true or soft summer. There is no way that I could wear the oranges that you picked for a light summer. This helped me realize that those tests seem to priorities *value* over hue and chroma, but it's not the most important factor in what looks good on me.
Yes, I always got Autumn as a result. It may be that the tests prioritize one dimension of colour or we do in how we see ourselves when we have only observation to go by, without some kind of measurement and comparison system. Great point that within a True Season groups, the value ranges are similar and will rarely be the deciding factor, and hue and chroma are far more important.
@@ChristineScaman And those fabrics that just look awful or fantastic up against your skin carry so much more weight than one's absolute hair or eye color, even if natural.
Another great point, that absolute hair or eye colour is less a factor in appearance or choosing colours than one might think. A bit like depth of skin tone, other things matter more.

It bothered me for a long time when I would hear color analysts say, "any season can wear any color, it just has to be their version of it." "Hah! no way," I'd think, "what about orange?" This video is a great explainer that indeed, there is a version of every color (even orange!) for every season. As you pointed out, orange is particularly interesting because it encompasses brown. For instance, I'm a soft summer, and taking that beautiful rose brown you featured and using a color tool to suck out all the grey leaves the orange-red of a Bright season -- fascinating!
I think your original thesis was indeed proven by this video. True Summer had only berries and pinks, as Christine said, "nothing that you would call orange". I was surprised to learn how many other cool seasons have options, however!
@@alexandragatto Good point -- there is nothing we, as people who clearly think a lot about color, would perceive as being even remotely close to orange for true summers. However, from a color theory perspective, if you take the dark brown (#604D4F) in their palette and look purely at the hue -- it's an orangey-red color. Does this matter when picking clothes? Definitely not. But I guess in writing this reply, I've realized I want to cling to the idea that I can wear any color from the basic color wheel :) Of course, only with enough greying, cooling off, etc.
Brilliant points being made here. What happened over time was that my bell curve for colours got wider. It began as a narrow spike whereas these days, it's still tall as well as a lot wider, which captures more of the unexpected and possibles.

It's my natural hair colour, although much more silver and less saturated than it appears in videos. The lighting and software for videos alter colours to some degree, and not always equally. It's one reason I always wear black, the colour least altered by the video process. Stopped dyeing it around 2016 after many years of unflattering or 'why bother' choices. One of my firsthand experiences in how we can lose ourselves and how difficult it is to see ourselves truthfully, so there was a silver lining :)
I loved this video Christine! I have dedicated myself to learning the rules, now I get into the fun of pushing the edge to add excitement. As a cool leaning BW I can add a synthetic pure orange element away from my face or in a pattern and have it enhance an outfit. I have a navy t-shirt with a synthetic bright orange logo that I always get compliments on even though it is just a simple t-shirt. I didn't do it intentionally, but now I know why it works and why I get that reaction. Winter really is about using a single bold (even shocking) element. Orange is difficult to navigate for most because of its boldness, but there is another type of color challenge: colors that we don't resonate with. I know this from 5 element typing where certain element types gravitate to certain colors. For example, I am Wood and Earth deficient and I feel funny wearing greens and yellows. It is like my body doesn't know what to do with those color frequencies in my field. Now I want to play with adding small doses of these colors like you did with orange.
So true, once you have a few guidelines, it's fun to see how far the edges reach. I have a dedication to living in reality (which I define loosely as the average of what everyone collectively experiences), and orange exists, many of them. As ever, one learns so much from mistakes and orange took some time to figure out. So interesting about gravitating towards element types (am I using the right words? one wouldn't say energy in this context, is that right, too generic of a word?) I've often observed people of all Seasons dressing as their colour opposite and have never known if it was to balance some social expectation, but I could easily see the element types as a component. For example, True Winters who describe themselves as 'earthy, solid' when their colours are not that way, but they do know themselves. It's me who's always wondering what they're describing. This could also explain my love/aversion to cool pink for myself, or maybe I've never seen Dark Winter's version in clothing.
@@ChristineScaman it's funny because I am having a hard time imagining you in pink. It feels like your energy field repels it 😅 Pink, like red, is associated with the Fire element; the softer more yin aspect. Whimsy, spontaneous, heart-centered, and in its negative aspects tending towards inappropriateness, scatteredness, and vulnerability.
I agree, it feels that way to me too, that I repel it somehow. I love red and coral though. The coolness may be the colour answer since fuchsia is about the same as pink. Once there's enough warmth and pigment, where icy pale pink becomes matte very light peach-pink, things get better. The effect is particular to pink though, green, blue, violet, even yellow have more latitude. Possibly a Yang thing because I sure do love it on others and wish people would wear it more, women and men.

Look 18 - I love this Soft Summer dress on the left. It looks so sophisticated! As a Bright Winter I have just discovered red-orange suits me really well, while I always thought that this is spring colour. It turns that my season is really energetic. Can you tell whether orange-yellow is wearable for BW and DW? Look 27 - I love this outfit for DW. It's sophisticated, a bit earthy, but too saturated to be considered strictly autumnal.
Agreed for Looks 18 and 27. They're excellent. And yes to red-orange for Bright Winter, there's definite warmth in that colouring and while the yellow is cooler side, it's so saturated that the colours can seem warmer. With orange-yellow, I'm not sure of your question in whether one could tell if they're wearable, though I'm happy to offer an answer. Do you mean, are there techniques for deciding if they can be flattering in those Seasons?
I wouldn't have a decision process the way I would with more standard or in-Season colours, meaning I'd go by big-picture impressions, adding space for personal preference. In order, the approach might be to open the palette fully, lay it on the garment or colour, and look for an overall sense of agreement, clash, or possibility. Since we're trying to work it with Winter, I'd look for an even energy with black, white, charcoal, as well as the complementary type colours of dark blue and purples. If the garment were to be worn near the face, I'd look for the effect on the neutrals, meaning are they hard to see, appearing yellow or green or somehow altered, or overtaken by the yellow-orange, expecting that there might be some yellowing but the palette could 80% still stand up to the orange. I would separate out the red strips of the palette and consider how the reds might look as lipstick above that blouse. As for personal preference, I'd imagine how I personally might react if the person in question walked into the room wearing the entire outfit. Although you asked about Winter, I might keep in mind that the Springs have many yellow-oranges and we'd see the reverse, where the Winter palette would dominate, sparkle, or sit too far above the garment, the reds appearing too bright and intense, the black too sharp for the neutrals, and the cooler colours (especially fuchsia) very blue and frozen. Please ask if I can explain further, I'm wondering if I've answered your question.

I understand, thank you for clarifying. I may not be enough of a colour theorist to give a correct answer but I wouldn't see an entire colour family as necessarily being the same warmth. There are blues or yellows that can be warm or cool, or harmonize with those palettes, and I imagine yellow-orange would be the same, with many versions of the colour. Add to that, as soon as we change one dimension, say, brightness, we change the other two (warmth and darkness), they're interactive, like ingredients in a recipe, when one changes, the whole flavour (and possibly texture) changes. In the video, Winter section, the woman with the orange pants and white blazer (Look #21), the yellow orange pants seemed to me too bright to harmonize with warm palettes. It can be hard to look at a colour and know exact warmth but, for example, you could place certain corals, yellows, or greens into Bright Spring rather than True Spring or Dark Autumn on brightness alone. Another example with yellow orange, the shimmery sunrise orange dress in Look #8, I could see that orange in Dark Winter, although not as a head to toe colour. Perhaps I'm not precise enough, being more of an application person, or maybe yellow-orange doesn't settle as easily as other colours. Similar to yellow-greens, a version appears in True Winter icy colours and another version as an extension of Bright Winter yellows. I see myself wandering off into technicalities, please ask if I haven't answered your question :)
Hi Christine! Im a analyzes bright Winter and I have to say that bright red-orange is one of the worst colors on me. Seeing a picture of me in that color was one of the reasons I found color analysis. I have also tried orangy red lipsticks like fire on ice from Revlon and ladybug from Mac and they are awful on me. Other bright winters Ive seen love their orange lipsticks and look amazing in it. I only look right in pink-red lipsticks.
Yes, I can see how that might be. Some Bright Winters are closer to True Winter, or your natural colouring just works better with neutral to cool reds. Red-orange may be a colour to wear in small areas, if at all. The same holds true for Dark and True Winter, where orange is particular. Many of the well-known lip colours for the Season are so intensely pigmented and opaque that their weight can smother the delicacy of Bright Winter. A sheer version might work quite well, at least with certain outfits or colourings, say bright red-orange hair and clear emerald eyes. Sounds as though you're finding your way :)
Nice take on orange. Do you believe that synthetic type clothing is more for Springs or Winters? Synthetic clothing has this sheen/shine effect to it that both seasons can pull off because of their Clear and Bright characteristics. On the contrary, Summer and Autumns to me would appear kind of Grayish maybe because Clearness and Shine are not a natural part of their complexions as they are more Muted and Soft.
Glad you enjoyed it :) What you say makes sense, although synthetic clothing, like synthetic colours, is a big category, and then there are all those textiles made of mixed fibres. As we know, in the end, it comes down to the particular colour and fabric in terms of which Season they belong with, especially in the modern world where almost any combination is possible.

Oh, my! I'm very new at this, but I found a pink wrap sweater (pretty close to 6.1 on my TCI Soft Summer classic fan) and a pinkish-orange shirt that seemed to harmonize with it and my fan very well. The effect is much brighter and much less obviously muted than your gorgeous Soft Summer oranges are. Mine look more like Easter eggs or unwrapped Starburst candies. Have I been on the wrong track?
It's probably fine if it works with the rest of the fan and you love the combinations and colours. That alone shows you're on the right track or close enough. No Season has only 1 version of any colour, it's just that they can't all be shown in a 20 min video. Even yellow in the cool Seasons can have a few different versions. Orange with variation of light-dark, pinker, browner, bluer, would have many options.
@@ChristineScaman I just wanted to let you know, that after watching this video, I did go out and try to find the strawberry red/orange color. I bought a couple of items, and at first, my family members thought I could only make it work because i had make-up on at the time (and to be fair, so did I). But then I took off the make up, and I could still balance that very bright color. People were surprised. I've also been able to get my family members clothings they look really good in, and funnily enough, those are the clothes they gravitate to. You're absolutely amazing, and I am so thankful for your hard work! I love hearing that you're finding colours that work for yourself and others. It's easier once you have a sense of how to look at appearance as a whole. A video of a Summer man is on the list, there are a few choices. I've been trying to think of a True or Light Summer woman whose hair isn't coloured (our Angelina Jolie video could be Soft Summer, Gillian Anderson also probably a Summer influenced person), maybe if I went back to the 60s before so many were going blonde.Thank you for sharing your success :)

The dress sounds beautiful. The wedding may have happened but it sounds as though you'll wear the dress often. I'm a colour person and know very little about style. Since you're a Winter, I might choose dark accessories to add contrast and darken the overall effect to average at medium-dark, probably black to avoid adding too much colour activity to the look.

Thank you! I bought it for warmth, living in a very cold place. It's from Avalanche Skiwear (.ca, I believe). It is very warm and would be great for TW and BW, also nicely fitted. Not as purple of a black as appears on screen, more generic Winter black.

It may depend on the result you're after and how flexible you are about copper. The terms True Summer and Cool Summer mean the same thing to me, and the cooler the colouring, the more orange the copper may look, although it might look sandy on a person with warmer colouring. True Summer is better in rose-silver than traditional rose-gold in jewelry and the same may happen with hair. Honestly, I can't think of a great copper shade. You could ask the colourist to try a few strands and see how compatible the colour is with the natural hair colour, which may be about how compatible it will be with you in general.
@@ChristineScaman thank you for replying. I was looking at doing a very bright copper. Basically I want bright orange hair in a level 7 or 8. Currently I have light Ash blonde (level 10/11) and naturally I have dark ash brown (level 5) I feel I look good in these two extremes but the middle of the road colours age me a bit so I was hoping the copper would make me look brighter and more alive and be a change from light blonde to dark brown I constantly rotate between.
Thank you for clarifying that. Perhaps there's a washout version of the colour so you can try it out. My concern might be that the copper will be the thing that looks bright rather than showcasing your own beauty, but it does depend on what we want from our hair colour :)
You're welcome! Glad this way of looking at colour was helpful for you. About eye colour, the various colours within the eyes are a great place to find colours for clothing, accent colours, cosmetic colours and neutrals, or hair highlights, depending on the individual. Might be taupe, yellow, rust, dark brown, soft orange, some version of any and every colour is possible. Hair colour is good but not as representative of overall colouring and not always found in the palette. The colours within our skin are the best source of our colours, but they can be hard to identify, which is why we have colour analysis. For all of them though, use the nearest colour as it appears in your Season palette, not the colour you think you see just by looking or taking closeup pictures.
I can see that, it's your individual pigmentation, I imagine, already a fair bit of yellow. Light Summers with blonde hair rarely wear yellow either, maybe it feels too similar. And I hear you about the rust. For that BSp with bright ginger hair and emerald eyes, clear pale skin, it's unreal to see it. Or even the blue eyed blonde with that rust in the eyes (often the men), amazing to include the colour in a print in a tie. For you, might be interesting as an accessory though, one of those 'why does this work when my logical mind says it shouldn't' challenges to the viewer, a little puzzle, because the colour is so good with the other colours in the palette, I love the dark green (maybe for the leprechaun story :) you know I love when a picture tells a story).

Absolutely. That happens with certain colours in every Season, like true blue in the Autumn groups where it appears as teal. Your Best Orange Or Nearest Version seemed like a long title :)
Christine, would you be able to create a videos like this for yellow? As a SSu, I find it impossible to find a yellow that works on me, even though there’s one in my classic fan.
I hope to go through all the colours over time. Yellow is actually next on the list because it has limited versions, like orange. It may also help to know that I'm about to do a video introducing Fabric Colour Sets for each Season, in which you'll find one version of yellow, more in the warmer Seasons. Could a Bright Winter wear a true orange color? My hair is very dark with silver highlights at the root and the more it grows the more it looks coppery brown and has red highlights especially in summer. My eyes are very dark and I can burn from the sun but I tan well and the tan can last for a very long time. So in summer I have an orange dress I wear that everyone loves. My best colors however are fucshia and sky blue and I must be cool neutral.. Out of all the palettes I resonate with Bright Winter the most so why orange looks OK on me? I see the color reflecting on my skin as you say but because of my tan and dark features everyone seems to adore it. I get so much attention and people think I've even dyed my hair red (it lightens a lot) that I doubt if I can be a Bright Winter. In winter Bright Winter is my best palette so how come in summer I can suddenly wear so much more reddish- orangy things? Does this mean I become Autumn? Olive green and yellowish white look awful on me and brown is a total meh as it matches my natural colors only it it's dark.
There may be a few answers to your question, or a few perspectives from which to answer. The first is, which orange exactly? Orange is a good colour family for Spring-influenced colouring and for BW, a clear orange with a fair bit of red in it might change the skin tone a little, as you say, but there may be other effects that are beneficial at the same time. Second, what looks good or doesn't may depend on who is commenting. A colour analyst would see appearance differently than folks you meet, the analyst being specific in what they're commenting on and the folks having their own various reasons for complimenting us. Third, a suntan can increase the melanin in the skin and when we have more colour, we can feel well wearing more colour, as many people do. You wouldn't become another Season but how you wear your own palette may change at certain times of year or life stages.
Makeup question: I recently purchased the Transformer from your website that converts powder shadow into liquid eyeliner. Do you dip the Trandformer into the eyeshadow pot or do you remove some powder from the pot and then dip the Transformer? (Thought I'd ask here as others might want to know).
Yes, good place to ask. I dip the brush into the edge of the eyeshadow pan and roll it around 3-4 times in a tiny area (1/4 inch, maybe less) to pick up the powder. Then I drag it lightly along my hand to create a smooth line before applying along the lash line. I make a series of short dashes, or a line would work well if one had the dexterity. For a more noticeable effect, I may repeat the line twice or fill in any blanks. I also like this product to add small areas of liner colour along a more neutral coloured pencil line, particularly with the more sparkly colours at the outer upper corners only.
Is there a brown a bright winter can wear? I am struggling to find anything on it... I like wearing brown as a colour, rather than a neutral, but have lots of different browns in my wardrobe & would like to narrow them down! If anyone knows some resources, please help 😊
I know of a few (3-5) browns that each of the 3 Winters wear well, meaning that I've seen the fabric or the person wearing the colour. I admit that they're hard to describe and possibly harder to find. Dark Winter may be easiest, as dark chocolate and black brown. True Winter, I think of a very dark brown with a purplish tone, like an Oreo cookie, or a very slight green tinge, but black-brown probably covers the descriptions. Bright Winter, most challenging...there are darker browns and options ranging to the medium-dark level that might be described as steely taupe, but with none of the pink that appears in some taupe. I appreciate this doesn't really help you. Two practical suggestions might be to have a look in the Pinterest boards for examples (link in Description) as dark rose gold, also the colours of a faux fur jacket, that show a clear dark brown. Other places to see BW brown are in the hair colours of the the people in this Season, which also range from darker rose gold or purple-brown to black brown. You can also purchase the fabric kits of neutrals at my website if you live in North America, which include a selection of browns along with gray, white, navy, and so on.

A good way to find BW hair colours is to search 'bright winter celebs', both in Google and Pinterest. They may not all be BW, but many will be and you'll see all kinds of natural hair colour examples. If ever you're interested, there's no problem shipping physical books and fabrics to other countries. The EU has special rules with digital products, like e-books, and cosmetics, but the fabric kits have always arrived without issues. Shipping tends to be in the CN20-25.00 range, since they're light in weight. If you're ever interested, contact me via the website and we'll figure it out.
Could be the clothes or lighting, or could be my teeth! For sure, the software makes my hair look more coloured than it is. My teeth look white in the more recent videos, but they're not that white in real life. The lipstick though, all the makeup actually, is exactly the same in 99% of the videos from the past couple of years.
Orange may be the most radiant colour, a beautiful link in the strong chain of a connected appearance. The key to feeling natural and real, rather than costume or resort, is choosing the right one. I hope this video helps you orient your own colouring in the world of orange fashion and cosmetics. Warmer Seasons have more versions and may use the one shown in the video as a reference for other oranges that 'could have grown on the same tree'.

ADORE the deeper explanation as to why. The function of the world and how those characteristics help to define the seasons coloring. As a Summer it's a little sad that there isn't something identifiable as "orange" but more yellow touched pinks. It is still very useful to identify the slight yellow undertone in the magentas and clay examples. Also enjoyed seeing how to work the color into practical outfits and principles we can use in our own decision making.
The magic of colours is what they can do together that they can't do apart. That might be one of the magics of people too :) But it's true, we couldn't paint any person using every or any colour, and they couldn't dress well that way either, including even neutrals like black and navy blue. What makes up for it is knowing how to choose and work with the colours that resonate with us and enjoy the rest on other people.
I am a soft summer who gets a lot of gold in my hair from the sun in late summer and early fall (in the winter and spring, I am quite pale and my hair is a cool ashy brown). During the right time of year, I can DEFINITELY get away with borrowing soft autumn colors. In fact, that very burnt orange is one of my go to early fall colors. If you are a cool summer, it might not work for you, but if you are a warmer summer, it’s worth experimenting

I think this is a wonderful presentation focusing on one color. I think, it would be totally ok to say though that certain summer or even winter types just don't have much orange they can wear. For these rather more exotic colors that is just what it is, imo. You indirectly allude to it, by showing us pinks, browns or other substitutes, which is good, but it still means, summers have to stay largely clear of oranges, and for winter it depends, as you totally show in the video.
You will find more fashion use for some of the more saffron or mustard colors, if you start including more ethnic looks. There are tons of spice colors worn all over India, Pakistan, including the colors that you indicated nobody should wear. And I agree with you that those models in the pictures probably should not wear these colors. If you google India and colors, you will get exactly that mustard color front and center, but also parts of Africa and South America will wear these colors. This will be true not only for orange, but also for yellow, red, brown, and green.
Finally, that gorgeous winter color - more a cinnamon brown than orange -like you said, I could totally see you wearing that. It plays off of your hair color beautifully.
I appreciate your comments and agree with all that you said. Every Season has colours in their traditional version or a related colour and it helps to know ours. It's quite true that certain colours appear as part of culture and custom in other countries and I respect that people in those places have different desired outcomes with appearance, but if the person were sitting in front of the mirror and we applied the same criteria for colour harmony as we do with all skin tones, we might find that those colours create certain optical effects that are not in their favour.
Historical reasons for choosing colours, or geographic, faith, media, and other influences are important, but they may not be flattering in terms of the person's natural colouring by the defined criteria of a colour analysis...and nor do they have to be. We dress for all sorts of reasons, good reasons, like the love of faded denim that we see in North America. I've always been fascinated by how people with a certain cultural heritage in their physical appearance can look so beautiful in the traditional dress of that culture; it's not coincidence, more like a parallel evolution of culture and apparel.

Thanks :) It's funny how colours that are quite far from us still react with our colouring. I'm thinking of the colour analysis where the client is being draped in the mirror and the viewer on the other side of the table is watching the colour react with the analyst standing behind the client. Also interesting how the tiniest area of colour can have a strong impact, like a tiny gem or stone in an earring or necklace. Actually, my skin tone is probably not as warm or saturated as it appears in the video.

Glad to know the videos have helped! About olive tones, I wouldn't approach them too differently from other persons within the same Season. The Seasons have wide appearance diversity, but the basic use of colour seems the same to me. As I think about the olive-toned Summer, I come back to starting with the Season basics and fine-tuning based on the individual colouring, rather than solutions particular to olive tones. Winter also can have skin tones from lightest to darkest, including olive, but once we know which type of Winter, the fine-tuning revolves around the individual's reactions to colours. I have more experience with olive skin tones in Winter and some are better in red cosmetics than fuchsia and wear bright colour easily, others are fabulous in red-violet cosmetics and wear the softer versions, where Winter and Summer approach one another, all of this to say we try a few things to find our best places.
@@ChristineScaman I am olive skin and a deep winter 🤔 I think the red violet cosmetics suits me better than the red ones. I can not wear very bright colors. They overpower me. My hair is dark but my eyebrows are soft.I do need some intensity in the color though or I would appear dull. I think I could wear some colors of the summer pallette. The darkest colors may be....I have heard of a color analysis system called color breeze....they have more winters...like cool deep winter, deep winter, smokey soft winter, toasted soft winter, several clear winters as well 😀. I think it all depends how far you can go wearing the colors of sister pallettes. For me into deep autumn and the summer may be.
This is very helpful. Side by side comparisons help my eyes see subtle differences. As a Soft season, I would also find it helpful to be able to see SSu and SA next to each other.

It's true, a big part of building a wardrobe is learning when and where to shop.
I have been wondering why my warmskin next of kin hates orange. I think you explained it. I’ll have an extra look at what is going on with the brightness and tone next time I hear a complaint. Now I will guess how that related to the person’s own color. My soft autumn mom always talks about colors being «too sharp». She has been tested. I would not have guessed that color palette for her, as she used to have almost black hair, and has been wearing blue a lot better than me, a dark autumn.
I'm glad the video offered a new way of looking at this colour. Sharp is such an interesting word here, how a colour looks and feels to a person often relates back to them, whether they know their Season or not. Compliments are often that way too, where "I love the dress you're wearing." actually means "I think I would look and feel well in that colour." without any reference to you in the dress :)

This was very helpful! I was analysed Winter in 4 seasons back in the eighties and thought orange was not available to me but was puzzled that some do seem to work. I like your description of 'synthetic orange' and the tip that Winter orange would lean into red.

Pumpkin orange for me and not so near the face and harvest coral as a deep winter 😀. I am getting used to my deep winter palette. Sometimes I have the feeling that winters even the deep winter is so in command which I like but I have my gentle, my soft and vulnerable part and I don't know how to show it.I do like mistery. The mystery of black and deep purple in my palette but sometimes I want to be transparent. I like people get the impression what you see is what you get. No hiding.

Orange and yellow can be particular for Winters, orange possibly more than yellow. Many Winters wouldn't wear these colours in a large area even if the shade were perfect, but as an accent, they can add amazing energy to the impression we make.
Ah well. I'm a true summer but love wearing a warmer, darker shade of orange. If I could get away with it, half my wardrobe would be autumn colours since I love them so much, even if they don't look as good on me.
Many people gravitate towards Autumn colours for many reasons. I love the warm and comfortable fabrics as much as the colours. Like you, the appearance trade-off when I wear them isn't in my favour, but I wish it were :)

Useful is good! At times, certain Seasons can seem to reflect some of their colours, often Summer types, but it's exactly as you say, the reflection either makes sense with the skin tones or doesn't, like any shadow. Thank you for sharing your observation!

Christine, I really appreciate your work and this video format (one colour, 12 Season comparison, one by one and side by side) is especially informative for me. I’ve just read your chapter about my Season (I’m a Bright Spring) and feel very inspired by it. A year after my analysis I feel I’m ready to go a bit deeper into my Season, not only with the colours but also with some style changes (also ready to ditch winter black and to introduce lightness). It saddened me a bit to learn that I cannot wear synthetic orange (I really love it) but also you gave here a great tip on how to assimilate other palettes into our outfits, so I will improve my synthetic orange clothes with more delicate Bright Spring oranges.
I love how you're taking your Season in levels. It's the best way to give your evolving perceptions time to adjust and be ready for the next step. I don't see a need to give up synthetic orange, rather adapt the size and placement. BSp is a little less saturated than BW but they wear synthetic colour well in the spirit of play and a light heart, say a print, a bathing suit cover up. There's so much synthetic colour out there in awesome clothes, and if not for the Brights, then who?

Thank you for this! I am incredibly bad at seeing warmth vs cool. Knowing I am cool makes me buy too soft colors thinking the cooler the better, and never getting it quite right. Seeing the true summer colors in the picture with the three different oranges, which in My eyes are warm, I understand why I go wrong all the time. I look at the soft summer thinking that is cool. That'sthe one I usually go for, but it doesn't suit me...
I think most people have similar tendencies to confuse the colour dimensions, meaning they choose soft for cool or bright for warm. The important thing is not to expect yourself to do what nobody can do, which is position colour without direct comparison. If you had two orange items, you might not know which was technically cool but you could see which was lighter, brighter, redder, softer, and so on. Once you have the colour into one of the 4 main Season groups, then you can refine a bit more, with all sorts of tips throughout the videos for making those choices.

Great that you found it. It's a rare colour to find in textile, and even more rare to find an orange that interacts reasonably well with Dark Winter's palette.

Well, nearly every 12 season color test I take online types me as a "Light Summer", and that always seemed wrong to me, but this video made it clear that I'm a true or soft summer. There is no way that I could wear the oranges that you picked for a light summer. This helped me realize that those tests seem to priorities *value* over hue and chroma, but it's not the most important factor in what looks good on me.
Yes, I always got Autumn as a result. It may be that the tests prioritize one dimension of colour or we do in how we see ourselves when we have only observation to go by, without some kind of measurement and comparison system. Great point that within a True Season groups, the value ranges are similar and will rarely be the deciding factor, and hue and chroma are far more important.
@@ChristineScaman And those fabrics that just look awful or fantastic up against your skin carry so much more weight than one's absolute hair or eye color, even if natural.
Another great point, that absolute hair or eye colour is less a factor in appearance or choosing colours than one might think. A bit like depth of skin tone, other things matter more.

It bothered me for a long time when I would hear color analysts say, "any season can wear any color, it just has to be their version of it."
"Hah! no way," I'd think, "what about orange?"
This video is a great explainer that indeed, there is a version of every color (even orange!) for every season. As you pointed out, orange is particularly interesting because it encompasses brown. For instance, I'm a soft summer, and taking that beautiful rose brown you featured and using a color tool to suck out all the grey leaves the orange-red of a Bright season -- fascinating!
I think your original thesis was indeed proven by this video. True Summer had only berries and pinks, as Christine said, "nothing that you would call orange". I was surprised to learn how many other cool seasons have options, however!
@@alexandragatto Good point -- there is nothing we, as people who clearly think a lot about color, would perceive as being even remotely close to orange for true summers.
However, from a color theory perspective, if you take the dark brown (#604D4F) in their palette and look purely at the hue -- it's an orangey-red color.
Does this matter when picking clothes? Definitely not. But I guess in writing this reply, I've realized I want to cling to the idea that I can wear any color from the basic color wheel :) Of course, only with enough greying, cooling off, etc.
Brilliant points being made here. What happened over time was that my bell curve for colours got wider. It began as a narrow spike whereas these days, it's still tall as well as a lot wider, which captures more of the unexpected and possibles.

Love this format of focusing on one color at once! Also really enjoying the podcast! I'm curious about the hair color. It looks so flattering but am curious if it's dye or not. Since on the podcast you seemed pretty not into dying gray/white hair.
It's my natural hair colour, although much more silver and less saturated than it appears in videos. The lighting and software for videos alter colours to some degree, and not always equally. It's one reason I always wear black, the colour least altered by the video process. Stopped dyeing it around 2016 after many years of unflattering or 'why bother' choices. One of my firsthand experiences in how we can lose ourselves and how difficult it is to see ourselves truthfully, so there was a silver lining :)
I loved this video Christine! I have dedicated myself to learning the rules, now I get into the fun of pushing the edge to add excitement. As a cool leaning BW I can add a synthetic pure orange element away from my face or in a pattern and have it enhance an outfit. I have a navy t-shirt with a synthetic bright orange logo that I always get compliments on even though it is just a simple t-shirt. I didn't do it intentionally, but now I know why it works and why I get that reaction. Winter really is about using a single bold (even shocking) element.
Orange is difficult to navigate for most because of its boldness, but there is another type of color challenge: colors that we don't resonate with. I know this from 5 element typing where certain element types gravitate to certain colors. For example, I am Wood and Earth deficient and I feel funny wearing greens and yellows. It is like my body doesn't know what to do with those color frequencies in my field. Now I want to play with adding small doses of these colors like you did with orange.
So true, once you have a few guidelines, it's fun to see how far the edges reach. I have a dedication to living in reality (which I define loosely as the average of what everyone collectively experiences), and orange exists, many of them. As ever, one learns so much from mistakes and orange took some time to figure out.
So interesting about gravitating towards element types (am I using the right words? one wouldn't say energy in this context, is that right, too generic of a word?) I've often observed people of all Seasons dressing as their colour opposite and have never known if it was to balance some social expectation, but I could easily see the element types as a component. For example, True Winters who describe themselves as 'earthy, solid' when their colours are not that way, but they do know themselves. It's me who's always wondering what they're describing. This could also explain my love/aversion to cool pink for myself, or maybe I've never seen Dark Winter's version in clothing.
@@ChristineScaman it's funny because I am having a hard time imagining you in pink. It feels like your energy field repels it 😅 Pink, like red, is associated with the Fire element; the softer more yin aspect. Whimsy, spontaneous, heart-centered, and in its negative aspects tending towards inappropriateness, scatteredness, and vulnerability.
I agree, it feels that way to me too, that I repel it somehow. I love red and coral though. The coolness may be the colour answer since fuchsia is about the same as pink. Once there's enough warmth and pigment, where icy pale pink becomes matte very light peach-pink, things get better. The effect is particular to pink though, green, blue, violet, even yellow have more latitude. Possibly a Yang thing because I sure do love it on others and wish people would wear it more, women and men.

As a Bright Winter I have just discovered red-orange suits me really well, while I always thought that this is spring colour. It turns that my season is really energetic. Can you tell whether orange-yellow is wearable for BW and DW?
Look 27 - I love this outfit for DW. It's sophisticated, a bit earthy, but too saturated to be considered strictly autumnal.
Agreed for Looks 18 and 27. They're excellent. And yes to red-orange for Bright Winter, there's definite warmth in that colouring and while the yellow is cooler side, it's so saturated that the colours can seem warmer.
With orange-yellow, I'm not sure of your question in whether one could tell if they're wearable, though I'm happy to offer an answer. Do you mean, are there techniques for deciding if they can be flattering in those Seasons?

I wouldn't have a decision process the way I would with more standard or in-Season colours, meaning I'd go by big-picture impressions, adding space for personal preference. In order, the approach might be to open the palette fully, lay it on the garment or colour, and look for an overall sense of agreement, clash, or possibility. Since we're trying to work it with Winter, I'd look for an even energy with black, white, charcoal, as well as the complementary type colours of dark blue and purples. If the garment were to be worn near the face, I'd look for the effect on the neutrals, meaning are they hard to see, appearing yellow or green or somehow altered, or overtaken by the yellow-orange, expecting that there might be some yellowing but the palette could 80% still stand up to the orange. I would separate out the red strips of the palette and consider how the reds might look as lipstick above that blouse. As for personal preference, I'd imagine how I personally might react if the person in question walked into the room wearing the entire outfit. Although you asked about Winter, I might keep in mind that the Springs have many yellow-oranges and we'd see the reverse, where the Winter palette would dominate, sparkle, or sit too far above the garment, the reds appearing too bright and intense, the black too sharp for the neutrals, and the cooler colours (especially fuchsia) very blue and frozen. Please ask if I can explain further, I'm wondering if I've answered your question.

I understand, thank you for clarifying. I may not be enough of a colour theorist to give a correct answer but I wouldn't see an entire colour family as necessarily being the same warmth. There are blues or yellows that can be warm or cool, or harmonize with those palettes, and I imagine yellow-orange would be the same, with many versions of the colour. Add to that, as soon as we change one dimension, say, brightness, we change the other two (warmth and darkness), they're interactive, like ingredients in a recipe, when one changes, the whole flavour (and possibly texture) changes. In the video, Winter section, the woman with the orange pants and white blazer (Look #21), the yellow orange pants seemed to me too bright to harmonize with warm palettes. It can be hard to look at a colour and know exact warmth but, for example, you could place certain corals, yellows, or greens into Bright Spring rather than True Spring or Dark Autumn on brightness alone. Another example with yellow orange, the shimmery sunrise orange dress in Look #8, I could see that orange in Dark Winter, although not as a head to toe colour. Perhaps I'm not precise enough, being more of an application person, or maybe yellow-orange doesn't settle as easily as other colours. Similar to yellow-greens, a version appears in True Winter icy colours and another version as an extension of Bright Winter yellows. I see myself wandering off into technicalities, please ask if I haven't answered your question :)
Hi Christine! Im a analyzes bright Winter and I have to say that bright red-orange is one of the worst colors on me. Seeing a picture of me in that color was one of the reasons I found color analysis. I have also tried orangy red lipsticks like fire on ice from Revlon and ladybug from
Mac and they are awful on me. Other bright winters Ive seen love their orange lipsticks and look amazing in it. I only look right in pink-red lipsticks.
Yes, I can see how that might be. Some Bright Winters are closer to True Winter, or your natural colouring just works better with neutral to cool reds. Red-orange may be a colour to wear in small areas, if at all. The same holds true for Dark and True Winter, where orange is particular. Many of the well-known lip colours for the Season are so intensely pigmented and opaque that their weight can smother the delicacy of Bright Winter. A sheer version might work quite well, at least with certain outfits or colourings, say bright red-orange hair and clear emerald eyes. Sounds as though you're finding your way :)

Nice take on orange. Do you believe that synthetic type clothing is more for Springs or Winters? Synthetic clothing has this sheen/shine effect to it that both seasons can pull off because of their Clear and Bright characteristics. On the contrary, Summer and Autumns to me would appear kind of Grayish maybe because Clearness and Shine are not a natural part of their complexions as they are more Muted and Soft.
Glad you enjoyed it :) What you say makes sense, although synthetic clothing, like synthetic colours, is a big category, and then there are all those textiles made of mixed fibres. As we know, in the end, it comes down to the particular colour and fabric in terms of which Season they belong with, especially in the modern world where almost any combination is possible.

Oh, my! I'm very new at this, but I found a pink wrap sweater (pretty close to 6.1 on my TCI Soft Summer classic fan) and a pinkish-orange shirt that seemed to harmonize with it and my fan very well. The effect is much brighter and much less obviously muted than your gorgeous Soft Summer oranges are. Mine look more like Easter eggs or unwrapped Starburst candies. Have I been on the wrong track?
It's probably fine if it works with the rest of the fan and you love the combinations and colours. That alone shows you're on the right track or close enough. No Season has only 1 version of any colour, it's just that they can't all be shown in a 20 min video. Even yellow in the cool Seasons can have a few different versions. Orange with variation of light-dark, pinker, browner, bluer, would have many options.

@@ChristineScaman I just wanted to let you know, that after watching this video, I did go out and try to find the strawberry red/orange color. I bought a couple of items, and at first, my family members thought I could only make it work because i had make-up on at the time (and to be fair, so did I). But then I took off the make up, and I could still balance that very bright color. People were surprised.
I've also been able to get my family members clothings they look really good in, and funnily enough, those are the clothes they gravitate to.

I love hearing that you're finding colours that work for yourself and others. It's easier once you have a sense of how to look at appearance as a whole. I am a bright winter and want to wear a beautiful collared button up, bright synthetic orange dress tomorrow for a wedding. How might you suggest I style this? With shoes/bags/jewelry/scarves/etc?
The dress sounds beautiful. The wedding may have happened but it sounds as though you'll wear the dress often. I'm a colour person and know very little about style. Since you're a Winter, I might choose dark accessories to add contrast and darken the overall effect to average at medium-dark, probably black to avoid adding too much colour activity to the look.

I'm a summer, either a true or a cool but I really want to dye my hair copper. Is there any shade I can do or is it a no no since copper is basically orange
It may depend on the result you're after and how flexible you are about copper. The terms True Summer and Cool Summer mean the same thing to me, and the cooler the colouring, the more orange the copper may look, although it might look sandy on a person with warmer colouring. True Summer is better in rose-silver than traditional rose-gold in jewelry and the same may happen with hair. Honestly, I can't think of a great copper shade. You could ask the colourist to try a few strands and see how compatible the colour is with the natural hair colour, which may be about how compatible it will be with you in general.
@@ChristineScaman thank you for replying. I was looking at doing a very bright copper. Basically I want bright orange hair in a level 7 or 8. Currently I have light Ash blonde (level 10/11) and naturally I have dark ash brown (level 5) I feel I look good in these two extremes but the middle of the road colours age me a bit so I was hoping the copper would make me look brighter and more alive and be a change from light blonde to dark brown I constantly rotate between.
Thank you for clarifying that. Perhaps there's a washout version of the colour so you can try it out. My concern might be that the copper will be the thing that looks bright rather than showcasing your own beauty, but it does depend on what we want from our hair colour :)

You're welcome! Glad this way of looking at colour was helpful for you. About eye colour, the various colours within the eyes are a great place to find colours for clothing, accent colours, cosmetic colours and neutrals, or hair highlights, depending on the individual. Might be taupe, yellow, rust, dark brown, soft orange, some version of any and every colour is possible. Hair colour is good but not as representative of overall colouring and not always found in the palette. The colours within our skin are the best source of our colours, but they can be hard to identify, which is why we have colour analysis. For all of them though, use the nearest colour as it appears in your Season palette, not the colour you think you see just by looking or taking closeup pictures.

I’m Bright Spring, but yellow Orange, orange, rust and yellow greens are NOT good on me. However, the warm end of Bright Winter is great.
I can see that, it's your individual pigmentation, I imagine, already a fair bit of yellow. Light Summers with blonde hair rarely wear yellow either, maybe it feels too similar. And I hear you about the rust. For that BSp with bright ginger hair and emerald eyes, clear pale skin, it's unreal to see it. Or even the blue eyed blonde with that rust in the eyes (often the men), amazing to include the colour in a print in a tie. For you, might be interesting as an accessory though, one of those 'why does this work when my logical mind says it shouldn't' challenges to the viewer, a little puzzle, because the colour is so good with the other colours in the palette, I love the dark green (maybe for the leprechaun story :) you know I love when a picture tells a story).
@@ChristineScaman Yes, not looking my best in that end of the palette made me question the whole seasonal category and make me think Bright Winter was a better fit, but I have too much darkness intolerance.

Could a Bright Winter wear a true orange color?
My hair is very dark with silver highlights at the root and the more it grows the more it looks coppery brown and has red highlights especially in summer. My eyes are very dark and I can burn from the sun but I tan well and the tan can last for a very long time. So in summer I have an orange dress I wear that everyone loves.
My best colors however are fucshia and sky blue and I must be cool neutral.. Out of all the palettes I resonate with Bright Winter the most so why orange looks OK on me?
I see the color reflecting on my skin as you say but because of my tan and dark features everyone seems to adore it. I get so much attention and people think I've even dyed my hair red (it lightens a lot) that I doubt if I can be a Bright Winter. In winter Bright Winter is my best palette so how come in summer I can suddenly wear so much more reddish- orangy things? Does this mean I become Autumn? Olive green and yellowish white look awful on me and brown is a total meh as it matches my natural colors only it it's dark.
There may be a few answers to your question, or a few perspectives from which to answer. The first is, which orange exactly? Orange is a good colour family for Spring-influenced colouring and for BW, a clear orange with a fair bit of red in it might change the skin tone a little, as you say, but there may be other effects that are beneficial at the same time. Second, what looks good or doesn't may depend on who is commenting. A colour analyst would see appearance differently than folks you meet, the analyst being specific in what they're commenting on and the folks having their own various reasons for complimenting us. Third, a suntan can increase the melanin in the skin and when we have more colour, we can feel well wearing more colour, as many people do. You wouldn't become another Season but how you wear your own palette may change at certain times of year or life stages.
Makeup question: I recently purchased the Transformer from your website that converts powder shadow into liquid eyeliner. Do you dip the Trandformer into the eyeshadow pot or do you remove some powder from the pot and then dip the Transformer? (Thought I'd ask here as others might want to know).
Yes, good place to ask. I dip the brush into the edge of the eyeshadow pan and roll it around 3-4 times in a tiny area (1/4 inch, maybe less) to pick up the powder. Then I drag it lightly along my hand to create a smooth line before applying along the lash line. I make a series of short dashes, or a line would work well if one had the dexterity. For a more noticeable effect, I may repeat the line twice or fill in any blanks. I also like this product to add small areas of liner colour along a more neutral coloured pencil line, particularly with the more sparkly colours at the outer upper corners only.

I like wearing brown as a colour, rather than a neutral, but have lots of different browns in my wardrobe & would like to narrow them down!

I know of a few (3-5) browns that each of the 3 Winters wear well, meaning that I've seen the fabric or the person wearing the colour. I admit that they're hard to describe and possibly harder to find. Dark Winter may be easiest, as dark chocolate and black brown. True Winter, I think of a very dark brown with a purplish tone, like an Oreo cookie, or a very slight green tinge, but black-brown probably covers the descriptions. Bright Winter, most challenging...there are darker browns and options ranging to the medium-dark level that might be described as steely taupe, but with none of the pink that appears in some taupe. I appreciate this doesn't really help you. Two practical suggestions might be to have a look in the Pinterest boards for examples (link in Description) as dark rose gold, also the colours of a faux fur jacket, that show a clear dark brown. Other places to see BW brown are in the hair colours of the the people in this Season, which also range from darker rose gold or purple-brown to black brown. You can also purchase the fabric kits of neutrals at my website if you live in North America, which include a selection of browns along with gray, white, navy, and so on.

A good way to find BW hair colours is to search 'bright winter celebs', both in Google and Pinterest. They may not all be BW, but many will be and you'll see all kinds of natural hair colour examples.

The EU has special rules with digital products, like e-books, and cosmetics, but the fabric kits have always arrived without issues. Could be the clothes or lighting, or could be my teeth! For sure, the software makes my hair look more coloured than it is. My teeth look white in the more recent videos, but they're not that white in real life. The lipstick though, all the makeup actually, is exactly the same in 99% of the videos from the past couple of years.
