I used the BFO to zero beat on an AM broadcast band signal and put a white paint spot on the center part of the BFO tuning knob to mark mid-point. A detent on the control would have made things easier. I have the older non-DSP version which has very good sensitivity, especially on the MW Broadcast Band when using the DX position on the DX/Local switch. It's often easier to use the "Local" position in order to tune a loop antenna like the small Tecsun AN100 or AN200, and then switch to DX.
I have had a 1st gen Degen 1103 for at least 14-15 years and I love it... the price was really good back them! ($67 usd including shipping) ... for all around listening it does (to my ears) as well as my Icom 71A on the same antenna

I used to have a Grundig G5 which I loved but it could be challenging to tune the SSB signals with the fine tune knob but I got really good at it over the years. I bought a Tecsun PL-330 and tuning those signals is so much easier. Unrelated question, have you ever done a video on numbers stations? I used to pick them up quite frequently in the mid to late 2000s but haven’t heard any recently.

With the newer model digital 1103 like Kaito, which I really like BTW, I find on 40m for example if net is on 7225 LSB I sometimes get a better result on 7224 and bring the BFO up, rather than 7225 and try to catch that fringe spot where the BFO just engages the LSB. Thanks! Great watch as always!
