This MIL is kind of obsessive, she gets an idea in her head and doesn't want to listen to anybody speaking against it, assuming she cannot be wrong. There's people like that which will simply not listen and just happily keep acting like their conclusion is absolute fact. And anybody telling them they're wrong must be lying for ulterior motives.

Yes, or they discover they're wrong, immediately co-opt it and pretend that's what they thought all along, and if you argue with them about it they get downright nasty.
