Were you satisfied with TOTK then?

This may sound arbitrary but I stopped playing after getting all 120 lightroot things. When I got the reward I suddenly had this feeling of resentment, like the game wasted my time. In botw when you got all 120 shrines you got a special outfit so I was expecting something similar for this, especially because of how grindy it is toward the back half. Instead you get a cosmetic medal for your inventory. Pretty big blunder IMO.
Generally I enjoyed the new stuff- the new major dungeons in particular I thought were pretty consistently good and memorable. I also really liked the overworld caves. The problem is that the new stuff is a minor part of the experience. The journey to these new dungeons is virtually the same. To me, it feels like OOT Master Quest than Majora. As for the depths, they made a great first impression but after about 20 hours you realize there's not much to it, which is a real shame, because I really enjoyed it initially.
Lastly, I would say that the vehicle stuff was a failure. In the early game, it's way too expensive and useless. You get punished for experimenting because you try to spend all your resources making a car that's slower than just sprinting. Then sometime in the midgame you suddenly get an abundance of fans and controllers, making the hoverbike insanely OP and completely trivializing the game. It practically feels like a no clip. I appreciate the effort put into the system but the result was ultimately disappointing.
To summarize, if I could combine the two games into one, I would just take BOTW and add the overworld caves from TOTK. I think the guardians were a way better enemy than the phantom ganons, I think having a flying car available any time completely removes any tension, and I think the depths makes the map far, far too big with no payoff. I still got my money's worth playing it, but it's not Majora.
      Thanks for watching!

@@tin_sensei perfectly sums up how I feel about it,
the map was the biggest selling point for botw which I’ve invested well over 200 plus hours in, I love all the call backs to the orders games which didn’t get paid off in totk I was just expecting a bit more of somethings and less of others
But a good question is, if someone never played botw or totk and asked you which one should I get what would you say?

I see your concern about how the totk may not have as much exploration because they are reusing the map from botw, but the fact that we will have sky islands, caves, and maybe even underwater exploration makes me feel better. And who knows what kind of stuff they will add on land, I'm talking about possibly new villages and cool new landmarks. I think the game will satisfy us :)

As someone who poured over botw (only finished in summer last year) I’d be so disappointed if it took place in the same map. I like to take big open world games slow and take in all the details. Exploring the same map would feel incredibly cheap lol

There's a cave entrance in a spot where there wasn't one in BotW. It's in the title reveal teaser, just before this moment you're showing at the 9:54 mark.
I wouldn't be too concerned. Assuming the islands are all over the entirety of Hyrule, that's almost a whole map's worth of new terrain. Coupled with the fact that we'll probably be able to go underwater AND underground, the map could be up to three times larger vertically. That's also assuming the horizontal borders haven't been extended, which they very well could be. These changes are likely either not apparent at first glance/from afar, or they're purposely hiding them for now.
The overworld being "the same" has been a known fact since shortly after the initial reveal. Aonuma confirmed it in an interview. So your confusion towards that was a bit perplexing to me.
Yes, it's really weird they haven't shown much even 4+ months from release. But if this was a "60$ DLC", they wouldn't have taken almost six years to put it out. I trust the Zelda team.
Let's just hope I'm right in doing so.

    • @gregpl9363
      @gregpl9363 Рік тому +11

My thoughts exactly, if you watch closely in the last trailer, the islands in the sky even extend past the borders of the land onto the sea, which would make the possibility of those two being connected more significant. Also, things like the cave entrance in (apparently) the Faron region has me thinking that the overworld we know has been (although recognisable) drastically changed in terms of exploration possibilities. I’m not worried, but at this point they need to stop pulling a R* and just give us something already!! 😫😂

Yea exactly, either extended borders or island(s) would be cool. I do think they will do some form of surface world extension aside from the overworld renewal. When you said island, the first thing that popped into my mind was this one, do you remember that aside from eventide there was an unreachable island in the distance? The one that looks like two grassy pyramids next to each other. I’ve seen someone doing some out of bounds exploring and even though you’ll clip through it, it is still very much a 3D landscape. Aside from that it’s literally the only island aside from eventide that’s to be spotted when out on sea. Can’t wait to see what they’ve done man, but they reaallly need to show us something NOWWW. 🤣🤣

I disagree, but you laid out your points well and I enjoyed the video.
I still have faith in the sequel for a couple reasons: I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss the “expanded world” from the delay since that was their main justification for the delay. It’s also not really fair to say “99%” of what we’re shown is the sky islands when you ignore the first trailer for dubious reasons. And finally even if the same map is reused, we can already see some pretty major changes with death mountain and weird symbols and the ground.
I do agree that the exploration was the best part of botw, though. I just have faith they’ll be able to recreate that in the sequel. I guess we’ll find out soon!

      Thank you for your comment.
It's true that I did put less stock into the first trailer. It really does feel more like just a cutscene setting up the castle rising. Part of the reason I feel this way, which I did not put in the video, is that I think people were baited by the Breath of the Wild trailers before that game came out.
The trailers featured a look at a Hyrule Castle town, but then in the game it ended up being one of the flashbacks that you discover and in the game, the town is gone. The trailers also featured a large cast of colorful characters, but then in the game half of these characters ended up being ghosts you only talked to as a reward for beating the bosses. Because of those examples, I chose to put more stock into the actual gameplay footage we've seen.
      Thank you again for watching.

@@tin_sensei This was a really well made video! I don’t agree with everything you said, and I feel like you are being a bit too pessimistic about the game, but I do feel like this is a good video to watch compared to some of the other totk videos out here. I feel like some people are getting a little too hyped for the game by putting out theories of some pretty far out ideas for the game and then treating like it’s a fact that the game will feature that. I definitely felt baited from the botw trailers and I don’t want to fall for that again. I still think that botw was an amazing game regardless of what the trailers made me think would happen. It does concern me that they haven’t released any gameplay, but I have faith in the Zelda team. If they say it’s gonna be something good, then I believe it will be. Also I think the idea of revisiting the old map is kinda exciting. It’s makes me wonder what kind of changes there will be to justify keeping it the same. Especially if they are taking out the 120 shrines I feel like they’ll be putting something good to replace it.

So in anticipation of the sequel I have gone back to BotW and am currently playing the One-Hit Obliterator DLC quest. And it got me thinking how many areas of the game feel new again with different quests to do, as well as how many gigantic areas seem like they should have more but don’t. I think if the devs put new caves/labyrinths/underworld locations in these areas along with the skyworld locations it will be more than enough to make the world seem fresh again. And the fetch quests can all be in service of restoring and rebuilding locations previously damaged by malice - even up to Hyrule Castle.

I would say the reason we haven’t gotten much info about TOTK is due to the fact that BOTW was also used as a way to sell the switch at the consoles launch. As the switch nears the end of its life the need to try to sell units isn’t prioritised as much so an expansive showcase of TOTK before it’s launch is not needed as much.

Imagine saying that "the whole journey of discovery was one of the best parts of the original" and then complain that we have not been getting several hours of gameplay that basically ruins the whole experience of discovery. I am not worried in the slightest. This game has been in development for more time than the original, and if we do end up getting the "same map" as botw, that means that they have spent 6 years at this point fully focused on new features, quests, dungeons, story and new exploration in the expanded world that could very well involve not only sky islands, but possibly also caves and a longer story to play through than the original. Either way this is nintento we are talking about, when it comes to their "flagship" titles such as the super mario or zelda series, they wouldnt release some half assed half finished dlc to an older game and call it a new game. They would make sure that the game is as great as possible. I will not be looking up any gameplay of it until its release and when i finally get to play it i will decide for myself if its good or not. But lowering your expectations beforehand just ruins the experience and sets your expectations so low that you just start looking for flaws in the game. Whatever ends up happening, im certain that the game will be enjoyable and different despite using the same map as the original.

Ummm BotW is one of my favorite games. I’m playing it now again and I’m thinking to myself I wish there was more in this base game. So honestly, if this sequel (that they’ve spent SIX years developing) is just “more of the same” as many have had concerns about, I will be more than pleased. A sequel to BotW for me means MORE OF THE SAME. But you have to be dense to think that they’re not going to add substantial content to the game. Zelda is one of their best selling franchises and this is one of the most anticipated games of the year, they’re going to put their all in it. You said they always change the map, so I think this game will be a new experience in the fact that they have a new problem to solve working with the same map!

You make a good point, and your concerns aren't unfounded. Realistically though, I think the base map will be the same Hyrule, but not the same as BotW. Think about all sorts of things that can be different like new towns, new characters, new cave systems (leading to the return of dungeons ? 👀), growing towns and populations since your "defeat" of the calamity, and overall just seeing how Hyrule is being restored to its former grandeur. That's not even mentioning the whole sky island thing. I think there will be plenty of exploration to be had with the sky islands and caves, and even more re-discovery when it comes to seeing just how the world has changed since BotW. I really hope your concerns end up being over nothing though, it definitely would be disappointing otherwise, but Miyamoto's never let us down when it comes to Zelda before and I doubt he wants to start now haha

I hate to temper expectations, but I think it’s unrealistic to expect a completely new map. An expanded map yes, with new sky islands and remixed areas. But to expect something all new like Termina or The Great Sea doesn’t seem in the cards. If they had something that big to show, I would think Nintendo would be proud to show it off as a new feature.
That said even if the overworld is the same, the game could still turn out great. BOTW was amazing, but it did lack in dungeons, items, unique looking bosses, and enemy variety. TOTK could take BOTW’s template and bring it to perfection with a few small but improved features like that.

Also Nintendo listens to the suggestions for future games, so It’s likely it could have underwater exploration and also underground exploration. aounuma stated that the game will take place in the sky but the new spaces you can explore will go much beyond that. I think their just hiding it so it could be a big shock or something. I have no problem with reusing the same basic Hyrule "terrain" map, so long as the content is significantly different and expanded. We know it will be expanded into the sky, and it had better also include other expansions -- caves, maybe underwater, and more expectedly, travel across time, so that we have access to a sort of parallel Hyrule map (like in a Link to the Past, or a Link Between Worlds) where the general geography is the same, but everything is "different".
Imagine jumping in a time machine, and getting to explore the world of 1000 years ago versus today. It's the same "map", the same bodies of water, hills, mountains, valleys, and forests, but also completely different.
While I felt that the BotW map was alive and vibrant, thanks to all the woodland creatures, grass and trees blowing in the breeze, it still felt somewhat deserted with the same few monster types, and also encountering the same few NPCs everywhere I went.
It's not the map that is the problem, it's just how empty and repetitive it is... a few of the same old bokoblins, moblins, and lizalos scattered here and there, the same small boulders to pick up and find a rupee, Mina and Mils hunting for treasure, Nat and Meghyn hunting for truffles, Beetle at or near every single one of the 15 identical stables, with identical looking owners.
What I'm really hoping for with TotK, is that the map will feel far more inhabited and far less repetitious. I want substantially more variety of monsters, NPCs, places, locations, towns, settlements, and I don't want to keep running into the same few people and monsters everywhere I go.

Maybe think of this game as if it was an exceptional story experience with new gameplay loops that expanded on the previous game. Botw’s map may be apart of this game, but the joy of finding new things that weren’t in the map originally will definitely bring a nostalgia factor to it.

I 100% agree with you here. I'm also somewhat worried.People that think that caves are just 100% comfirmed are kidding themselves. That one small shot is not confirmation. It could be literally anything.
Besides, just knowing the geographical location ruins so much of the exploration. Best case scenario they use our previous knowledge of the map to make re exploring it exciting and fun by "subverting our expectations" (god i hate that phrase) but even then, I can't see that not feeling disappointing. And islands... just aren't that exciting to me. Yeah they're kind of cool, but it's just more land with stuff on it. Them being in the sky just isn't instantly justifiable in my mind.
Besides, the rest of hyrule will still most likely be the majority of the game and... it doesn't look much changed at all. A few minor things like death mountain and a storm but... that's it. What's the hook that will make me want to explore the same areas I spent hundreds of hours exploring before? The landscape looks virtually identical. And because BOTW was so slow paced and dreamy, it was a dream to explore those areas for the first time. It didn't feel empty. But without anything major, re exploring that same terrain will feel tedious and boring. The world will feel vastly more empty.
Best case scenario is that they are holding back a TON of information on the game to keep us speculating, but this close to release I'm a bit worried.
Of course, I still have faith in the zelda team, I really do. I think that it's entirely possible that they will blow my socks off and go in a completely different direction that I was expecting... but I can't help but worry.

There is most likely going to be significant Map changes with the removal of Shrines Towers and the addition of Sky Islands some impartial Cave Systems and the Fact that in the trailers we've gotten there are 2 different caves, the Zonai cave and Ganons cave, there will most likely be more than those 2 caves just because, I'm sure that ZELDA wouldn't introduce a mechanic that wouldn't be used more than twice.

In BOTW trailers we saw a fully intact Castle Town, but that turned out to be a bait. My prediction is we are currently seeing a fully intact Hyrule, but its going to be screwed up. My main reasoning for this is because I *think* in an early interview, they said this game was going to be dark. I can imagine Ganondorf corrupting the entire world, so we go to the sky islands to seek the Master Swords fix (maybe the sacred flames that were only in Skyward Sword) and then head into the caves, where Ganondorf is. That was Hyrule will be new but screwed up, the sky islands will be beautful and the solution, and the caves will be the destruction of the sources of malice.
Welp, just wrote my own game in this comment, but some of it might happen! Great video, I enjoyed the fully laid out timeline!

I understand your concern. BUT I don’t think they are the type of people to really just copy and paste. The details in botw show that. They have a system in place (used in botw development) for the people on the team to play through the game and write opinions on a board that should be fixed in the game. They would know that no one wants to tred through the same hyrule again. That might be why we haven’t seen much and got the title so late. They either want us to discover this new hyrule ourselves or Something in the world is so big and weird it could spoil the whole thing. Or Zelda is a large role. Who knows but this is how I feel. I trust them to do well.

i mean sure some people won't like the same world with the altered route their going but i think it's just fine if they just alter it to the point that you can recognize it but be like hey i've been here before that's the place with that one quest what the hell happened to that and also a lot of sky island exploration and maybe and this is just a personal wish of mine, underwater exploration.
the first map was wonderful to explore but let's be honest aside from shrines and shrine quest plus some fetch quests, physics mini games and collectibles. there wasn't much behind the size of that world. it felt empty, kind of hollow, it was the charm of it because it was a post apocalyptic world kind of. but we've done that and seen that. i want to see the same world after i beat ganon. but great vid nonetheless i like your voiceover and editing. it flowed pretty well.

We'll see... tbh, a couple of years ago I was concerned about the exploration thing... but, I've honestly played BOTW so much, that I want something completely new. Maybe exploration won't be the thing... but, being lost in caves, or figuring out how to reach that freaking island talking to NPCs. It may be the same Hyrule, but maybe they've managed to build the whole Hyrule underground... and the verticality could be more expansive than what we've seen too... Exploration was everything for me, but I think I can move on from that, for now, if what they bring is intriguing enough.

I think they're just... hiding it. After all, a lot of people including me don't like when an upcoming movie has had trailers reveal waaay too much of the film. Same can be applied to TotK. They're either hiding until the next trailer (which may not even reveal close to everything big and unknown about the game), or saving it all for the player to discover. Think about it, they're reusing the same map. If they let the player discover everything else for their own, there would still be a new journey.

2's development period has basically matched the original game's, and for that one, they had to create the game engine, plan out all of the game mechanics, create the massive world, etc. Even when considering the pandemic, BotW2 HAS to have more dramatic restructuring than plunking some islands in the sky... right? That CAN'T have been all they worked on for the last half decade.
My best guess is that all of the new things they're adding may not present well in trailers for whatever reason, so they just... haven't been shown. Or maybe I'm just wrong and the game has had really troubled development. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I’ve got a big hunch that this game is going to feature the temple of time and multiple eras of Hyrule to explore. No cave systems, but at least two different time zones, maybe 3 to explore and travel between to solve puzzles. The lack of Sheikah tech in the new game is astonishing, and leads me to believe that tears of the kingdom is another lengthy period of time in the future, hence why the moblins and bokoblins have longer horns, or that this game is set waaay back in the past. This all speculation and the game maybe trash, who knows, but with the previous knowledge that they had tons of ideas for botw that far outweighed the scope of what the first game visualized, I’d say it’s probably fair that this game is going to let us explore some unknown sky realm, or maybe travel through time.

It is very unlikely (I hope) that they will just make this long awaited game a overly glorified DLC instead of a great masterpiece. I might be wrong, cos TBH (I do love Nintendo, but as they say "Nintendo is gotta Nintendo"). However, more often than not, they're well known for dropping old mechanics/gameplay/maps never to use them again (with a few exceptions) and that is what I want to believe they're doing here: maybe the map will be the same but it must be highly altered! maybe the sky map will be so interesting that we will not be keen to spend ANY of your time on the surface... who knows. There's a recent patent that describes an immediate warping system (which makes me believe that they really want us to travel easily between sky islands). Also, another theory I've is that they don't want to show any of the real "beef" of the game just now because they don't want to kill the hype (and you can see it's working, people won't stop talking about theories and crazy so called "leaks" of this game!), this is a brilliant marketing strategy... if they reveal "look, this is the new map (or the changes to the old one), and these are all the new mechanics" too soon, people all over the internet will stop hyping about this since they won't have anything to theorised. Again, remember since they're reusing graphic engine + map, they only have so much "wow factor", so they have to use it right! Again, I could be wrong, there are games made by Nintendo and even by Zelda team that makes you think "What the #$%& were they thinking?" - ahemSkywardSwordahem .... but... you can always hope. Really nice video, really liked your placid way you narrated everything. Keep up the good work! Sorry for the long post here's a potato 0
