- Way back in episode #5 of the podcast, we asked Chris Bell to tell us some crazy stories from “The Mecca” - Gold’s Gym in Venice, CA. This week’s guest is perhaps the person we should have been asking for those over-the-top stories all along. Mike Ryan was a long-time manager of Gold’s starting in the 90s. He saw all manner of craziness there…starting on this first day. This episode is also a big of a throwback to episode #100, because when Mike Left Gold’s it was to work for Bill Phillips at EAS, who was our guest in that episode.
As a trainer, Mike has trained stars like Mickey Rourke...and recently, Ricky Whittles, star of the series “The 100” and “American Gods.” He was even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's first trainer!
This episode is definitely NSFW, and freely acknowledges that adult humans have sex. If this hangs you up, some of Mike’s stories won’t be for you. They are, however, hilarious.

Actually turned into a pretty solid episode. Lots of interesting stories.
Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed this podcast. Lots of people hating cuz it wasn't very informative but it was pretty hilarious and a great change of pace. What it lacked in exercise science knowledge it made up for in spades with funny insight into the culture of bodybuilding and the personal training industry. Definitely room on the podcast for guests like this.

Only one comment about the fact his first story is a blatant lie, as the drinking age in the UK is 18, I'm shocked.
bit of advice..... if you're not talking and what I call a "loud breather" please pull the microphone away from your face. Hearing your nose whistle isn't exactly appealing..... and it's annoying.
Off all the guest and interviews you have had on this channel. This guy is the most boring and it's always been a learning experience watching this channel or listening to the podcast but this one had none. Mark please get people who can share knowledge not people saying I did this I did that.

Oh yeah, where would we be without AIDS, trickle down economics, the Iran Contra scandal, an astrologer involved in the decision making, the 1987 Stock Market crash, junk bonds, union busting, building up dictators in the Middle East, the War on Drugs, that stupid untrue welfare queen analogy, dog-whistling racism, ridiculous anti-crime measures meant to punish the poor and mostly black communities, propping up religious fanatical organizations, the list goes go on!
