    It’s the best Fluval Evo 13.5 I’ve seen on UA-cam to date, it’s a great setup you have, absolutely love the corals they’re so healthy with vibrant colours.

    Is there a formula for how much Kalk to add into your ATO based on your tanks consumption? Im assuming you need to know how much your tank evaporates and also how much Alk/Ca it uses and go from there?

    • @MaineReef
      @MaineReef  8 місяців тому

      What I did was start slow with the ato. I used half the full saturation dosage. I check my ph and alk to make sure it didn't raise to much. If you see high consumption in alk. Mix in more kalkwasser. Dialing in is a slow process.
      Some people go full saturation. I did not do that. I went slow. Watched ph and alk

      @@MaineReef do you ever have any issues with kalk slurry from it being mixed up and them settling?

    • @MaineReef
      @MaineReef  8 місяців тому

      @SilentBiscuit17 no I usually let it sit before using. Make sure you clean container every so often and pump if you aren't using gravity fed ato like I am.

    • @SilentBiscuit17

      @@MaineReef I have 0 experience with Kalk but once you mix it, doesnt a lot of it settle to the bottom of the barrel, so all the stuff at the bottom is super concentrated no?

    I have the same tank - running 2 years. Have tried 3-4 different wave makers and all were too strong for the tank. Looked at the Hygger site and I assume you must have the 1600 gph unit. Is that correct? But even at the lowest setting (40%) that still seems like a ton of flow for the 13.5 Fluval. How do you make it work? Also, the Hygger site states to mount it 6” below the water surface or you might get an error code. Ever seen this? Thanks

    • @MaineReef
      @MaineReef  10 місяців тому

      I do run the 1600. I also run an upgraded return pump as well. I tend to use a lot of flow. It really depends on where your corals are with the flow. Also, what type of coral as well. My wave maker is maybe 3 inch below the surface, and I never get an error message. The error comes on when the wavemaker sucks air. Mine rarely pulls air.

    what percentage are you running your blues and whites, and do they fluctuate at all through the day? Your tank is looking sweet my man, keep up that hard work im trying to get my tank looking this good.

      My blue are 100% whites peak at 10% blue ramp up from 8-9 am white ramps from 930 to 2 then ramp down. Blue ramp down 7-8. Lights out at 8

    what does the kalkwasser do for you? I mean im just trying to understand dosing what i should do for my tank. whats the benefit dosing kalkwasser over something like all for reef? i mean if i do my weekly water changes every week shouldnt that replace all of my trace elements? are your sps consuming more calcium then your water changes can keep up with? im just trying to understand how eevery coral i put in my tank melts but your reef looks insane something im trying to get to i guess the only difference i do is i dont dose kalkwasser

    • @MaineReef
      @MaineReef  10 місяців тому +1

      I use kalkwasser for alk calcium and ph. Alk is consumed quickly. Enough that I would see swings with testing. So I started with kalkwasser. A small amount. To keep the alk from falling to far. The benefit of kalkwasser is calcium and ph buffer as well. I also use water changes weekly. That will replenish my trace with out dosing.
      KALKWASSER is not a fix all though. I highly recommend starting slow. Not going full saturation. You must test for alk calcium and ph. Kalkwasser also will not take care of all needs when coral gets to a certain size where it is using more than you are adding. You want to keep things relatively steady.
