- I needed to fly Bangkok, Thailand to Prague, Czech Republic, and by far the cheapest ticket was on Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) for about $330 USD. I was heading to the TBEX 2018 travel blogger conference in Ostrava. My friends told me not to take this airline, but I had to save money, so I tried it out. Here is my experience.

What a great video! Certainly helpful for the traveler, but equally relaxing and entertaining for Friday night dreaming. I love mix of music to enhance the editing. Nice use of text as well. It must take a lot of discipline to video while navigating the rigors of international travel on low sleep. Well done.

Yeah but remember to check in online!!! They charged me like 20 euros when I didnt check in online and just arrived in Copenhagen!! And online check in closes a few hours before departure. Save yourself money.

Flew Krakow - Kiev & back via UIA last month and overall I had a great experience with them! Good food, good service. We had a 4-hour delay on the way back though. Like you said, can't beat the price. I booked a roundtrip flight with them home from Krakow to NYC so it'll be my first time flying them long-haul. It was only about $540, plus they include TWO 23kg bags with the fare if you connect in Kiev. Hopefully they've got better dinner onboard than that questionable stew they served you though (reminds me of that scene from Soul Plane lol). Also, having met numerous Ukrainians here in Poland and been to Lviv and Kiev myself, I can confirm that Ukrainian women are the most beautiful women in Europe, hands down!!

Definitely! My go-to cheap airline has always been Norwegian airlines but lately their prices have been unusually high. Booking the same flight through them would've cost me about $650 and that would've been with just one 20kg check-in suitcase! LOT Polish airlines also offers pretty good fares this time of year, at least for long-haul flights. You can get a roundtrip flight for like $475 with them.
And Wow Air has been really cheap but who knows for how long...

Oh yes, photos/videos... thus is a cultural thing. In Germany, for example, you have the rights on your image and nobody is allowed to photograph you in public - sure if u are in a crowd and the focus of the image isn’t you (them tourist shots) then that’s fine - without your consent, preferably written, especially if for commercial use. Ukrainians have similar viewpoints around this subject.
The other thing u may notice is that the woman will generally be less smiley. This is not because they are unfriendly... it’s just considered cheap and slutty to smile at strange men.
That's a great explanation and spot on. I got used to ladies not smiling or smiling back at me... I accept it is just cultural.
They always smiling when you arriving on board. It's not part of culture, I think they simply tired.
UIA is not a low-cost. But it have low-cost options without meals and checked baggage. For a long flight you always will have a meals, if duration is more than 6 hours. But for short trip, you need to pre-order meals or choose another tariff option.
About safety. It's completely safety. UIA haven't any crashes for a long company history.

Great customer service by the Thai ground staff lady. ... While some crews are fine with being filmed, others absolutely hate it and everyone filming should be prepared to be told "absolutely no way". ... If the food & drinks are free and there are blankets, pillows and inflight entertainment, it clearly isn't a low cost carrier (just fly Scoot long haul between Athens or Berlin to/from Singapore and you'll see the difference). ... While $330 sounds cheap, it actually isn't for a one way, considering that even reputable airlines like Finnair sometimes offer r/t tickets between Europe & BKK for as low as 400 Euros (I just bought one of those as I have to go in May for a course).

O/w flights always tend to be higher on non-lcc's though. Last October, I spent 350 Euros between Berlin & Seoul (via Warsaw with a night spent there, on LOT), it was the cheapest option as in your case and as they are in the Star Alliance and I still had Gold status then, I took it. First flight to Warsaw was a comedy of errors and subsequently delayed by 90 minutes, the long haul flight was perfectly fine and left on time.
Now I wanna fly UIA.
I fly U.I.A. all the time actually a few times a year and I would not change I love U.I.A. great service such a pleasure to fly with them

My experience with UIA was a bit worse than yours, the food...Umm I mean some parts were nice I mean I would avoid the meats, it’s not seasoned and very dry but the IFE was alright had some good movies and songs but my dads tv didn’t work and they didn’t try to do anything to fix it and he couldn’t move seats or anything, this was a 18 hour direct flight from London to Australia. But I guess I didn’t die, so I’m fine
18 hours? Wow that is so long. Amazing they do a flight like that London to Australia.
UIA do not fly to Australia. The only non-stop flight is a Qantas 17 hour flight Perth to London.

They changed both engines and did a C-check. You can read all that stuff on the avherald website: ( avherald.com/h?article=493c6485 ). I was thinking of flying vienna - kiev - bangkok with them. But I found another flight where I can collect milage as well. I personally would have also been flying with UIA, even I knew about the incident with this machine ;)
I would have also rather have earned some decent miles on this trip, but this price cost half of what other airlines were asking...
