i dont think its hard or easy honestly, i think it's just so different from most fps games that a lot of people don't consider stuff like quick switching i mean i play on nightmare too but i still die sometimes (mostly because i refuse to spam overpowered stuff like the lock on rockets and mobile turret shield dash)
I personally love the new art style change. 2016 looked more like doom 3, pain killer and killing floor than classic doom. I liked it but it didnt reallly "look" like doom to me. Eternal however looks like a modern day interpretation of doom 2. Somthing ive wanted to see since i was a kid. I love how the modeled everything after the original sprites. This is how a modern interpretation of doom should look. Embracing the classics with some modernization. This game might be up there with doom 2 as my favorite doom game!

The slayer says "rip and tear" during the gladiatorial fight because the sentinels have a sort of war chant "kar en tuk" which means rip and tear so hes probably doing it to show off for his victory. It's cheesy but only if you don't know the lore.
I'm actually really happy I found this video, because I was looking for an explanation on some of the lore (i.e. why do people think Samuel Hayden is some sort of angel, how Doom's 1 thru 64 connect to 2016) for Eternal. And I gotta say, the events of the game make more sense now.
On Doom 64: Lost Levels: This port was made by Nightdive studios, of which Samuel Villarreal, or as he's known in the Doom community "Kaiser," is part of. Kaiser is most well known for making Doom64 EX, so this port is actually extremely similar, to the point where the Doom64 EX level editor is completely compatible with this port. The "Lost Levels" are all new and made by Kaiser himself. Also, the lack of mouselook is to ensure authenticity to the original game, just like how the new Doom ports also lack this "modern" feature.
What I think happened with the icon. The betrayers son was used to resurrect the icon after doom guy killed it and stabbing his heart freed the icon giving it back its body
Neat fact the huge guts quote is from the doom comic where doom guy had the berserker pack when I got the unmaker I basicly called it a bfg shotgun cause that's kinda what it is it uses the same ammo and I think its stronger

As a mediocre 1st person shooter guy but a fan of Doom from '94, I agree the marauder is a great addition. My issue (aside from skill) is that the AI isn't super stable. It seems to glitch occasionally and spawn wolf after wolf or rush without a green flash. He can go for over a minute without a green flash which is a millennium for someone who struggles with it. Yeah, I'm 4 years late, but just wanted to share that it's not the demon... It's his programming for me. They're actually super cool, IMO. Love your stuff. Our video game Ven Diagrams have a solid amount of overlap. 👍

When it mentions Doomguy being torn from Hell, it's not talking about being sent to Sentinel Prime. Doomguy stayed in Hell at the end of the base campaign, and the sister of the Mother Demon sent him back to his own realm to get rid of him. That's why the Lost Levels starts off in a human tech base facility. He's back in his own universe. And he has to fight his way back into Hell and destroy the Mother Demon's sister, which is exactly what he does in the Lost Levels. That end text is describing the journey Doomguy took throughout the Lost Levels. His arrival in Sentinel Prime happened after this. When and how is never explained.
Oh I'm aware - Even in 2016 I considered the Prowlers to be a callback to the Nightmare Imps. TBH a better rebuttal would be the concept art for Eternal, where originally they were Orange & Black Cybernetic Demons until they decided to reuse the design from 2016 multiplayer.

Soon the Doomslayer respected the little yellow dog, and that respect turned to fondness, and that fondness turned to friendship, and that friendship turned to attractniss, and that attractniss turned to love. Pretty soon the two had a wedding ceremony together. But when everything seemed happy, the demon attacked; led by the first hell priest guardian. The Doomslayer and his new wife Isabel both made easy work of the demons, but the Doomslayer knew that they’ll come back. So he left to finish what he started, but he promised to Isabel he’ll come back to her when he rip and tear every last demon. A promise he failed to keep after slaying the Darklord.

My theory on the different demon names are the names that the Sentinals gave them from their world. For example, the Earth's UAC has the name 'Cyberdemon' while the Sentinals have 'Tyrant'. Same demon, different point of view.
i'd love to point out the fact that there is a way to get Doom 64 for free now WITH that bonus episode of levels that's easy to setup. it's a Doom 2 mod called DOOM 64 Retribution and not only is easy to setup just by dragging the unzipped file over GZDoom but it can use practically whatever controller you want and is completely legal because it's a DOOM 2 mod so rip and tear with your hearts content

See I never played 2016 but I did play the original Doom on a DOS machine with original hardware. And let me tell you if this was the direct successor I couldn't be happier.
the problem with the marauder isn't that he is difficult, its that its either takes forever or is very boring since its a waiting game. with every other demon its constant action with no breaks. but because of the way he is with his shield it halts the gameplay completely and instead of "hell yeah im a one man army" it becomes " wait for it ... EXCITEMENT and waiting again". i understand they were going for a mono e mono vibe but if that's the case why have the shield be the default block technique, why not make it dodging left or right, that way even though structurally it's the same it still acts way more engaging. but what do i know.

The wolf only spawns if something hits the Marauder's shield - could be you or another demon's stray bullet. As long as you keep an eye out for something hitting shield so you can prep for the dog, it becomes a bit more manageable.
My biggest issue with the marauders isn't that they're hard it's that unlike every other demon in the game you HAVE to fight them the same exact way. You have to get as far as possible to lock him in his run cycle and just repeat. It's such a complete and utter change from every other demon and it's just not fun. No grenades, no chainsaw, no crucible (if I remember correctly) and it's much harder to hit those 3 shots while swapping on controller. I understand liking him, but I don't get how you can't see how people don't like him
The Marauder isn't that hard, that's not the problem, the problem is when you've gotta fight the Marauder alongside other enemies. I agree that the Marauder is a fun and interesting fight, but his mechanics demand that you focus on him and pay specific attention to him which just isn't a good thing to mix into an encounter with other Heavies and Super Heavies because you'll have to just run away from him while trying to kill everything else first to get a chance to fight him 1v1. If you sincerely attempt to battle a Marauder in an encounter containing other threats without eliminating them first you'll end up backing into a Dread Knight or getting melted by a Cyber Mancubus because you have to focus on keeping the right distance and attacking during his weak moments. The Marauder, alone, is good... But a Marauder in the same arena as an Archvile? or a Hell Baron? fuck that.
I blame part of the Marauder hate on the fact that playing on console or with a controller really knocks his difficulty up, since you can't effectively quick-swap like you can on a keyboard.

As a person playing in UV, I completely disagree, this game is ridiculously hard at some points.

Bro when this game was announced oooooooooo I was so hyped! The campaign was so cool! The multiplayer didn’t care about. The game was pretty good! Oh also the review is amazing! You told me some things about the lore I didn’t really even know about! The edits you did was super funny keep editing like that! But yeah Doom eternal is an awesome game and a good sequel!
