Whose got the better bike? I'm over 50 and 195 lbs and have been on a waiting list for a CRF300l since April but a 2017 KTM 250 EXC-f just showed up on the market locally? Any advice?

Hi Vincent, They are both really good bikes and both have aspects "out of the box" where you can argue that one is better than the other, however, if you tell me the following, i will try to help you decide. What kind of riding will you be doing and what's your experience?

@@greenybikers299been riding over 30 years lots of standard bikes, ninjas, a sportster but no off road experience mainly beacuse there was no place to ride where ai lived but just moved to north GA where there are a lot of off road opportunities, I like to think I'm still in pretty good shape and could handle some jumps.

@@greenybikers299 I like the honda for lower maintenance, but the KTM 250 for suspension and I'm assuming more power, I'd have to ride 1/2 hour plus to get to some off road areas but 2 lane 55mph not neccessrily highway

You have identified the key areas, maintenance on the Honda is brilliant with long intervals and simple if you want to do it yourself, however, you are unlikely to enjoy the Honda suspension and you may need to buy premium to get it closer to what you need. This would bring the Honda close to the KTM purchase price. They say its 80% rider 10% bike, so if you are a reasonable rider like Mr P on his 300L you will be ok.
Now i have the KTM, i had a new CRF250L, spent £2000 on mods and still couldn't get on with it, sold with less than 700 miles on the clock. I love my KTM, it flatters my lousy riding skills, the only mods have been a phone mount and a power outlet, the rest is standard, there is nothing i need to change beyond that. I change the oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter every 8-10 hours (every 2 rides) Cost in parts and oil £25, i pay a dealer to check the valve clearance's as per the service schedule, approx £45. The rides i do are normally about 30% Roads (b roads) and 70% Green Lanes.
The Honda is owner friendly if you can get the suspension where you need it.
The KTM is very Rider Friendly if you don't mind doing a few oil changes.
I am happy with my choice and Mr P is happy with his, there seems to be no single right answer......Maybe i should do a comparison video?
I hope this helps, i am no expert.....just a normal bloke

@@greenybikers299 I rode a 2014 crf250l once and was not impressed with the power, does the KTM 250 EXC-F have more power than the Crf300L?
