I actually salute Simon for this. Not everyone has the cojones to go in there. He didn't hold back at showing the L. It's not a dent to his producing abilities. The guy's still an inspiring and effective educator.
While true, most egos on yt especially are too big to admit an L Like this, regardless of all the time spent on it they would scrap it all. To post this like he did was kinda dope imo @@CaptainUncle1836
Dang. He's a real one for still uploading. Actually, that was a pretty smart move, considering the algorithm these days, not to mention this weird society that loves to see your L's.
The whole "umm this song is no. 1 right now, so I think I'll sample it, that means people are gonna like it, right?" is so unoriginal and generic of a thought process...
Yeah.... it also kinda just seems like a sleazy strategy to me, honestly.... intentionally trying to piggyback off another producer's success, using their proven hit track to manipulate the judges/audience. Pretty obvious miscalculation though, IMO. Remixes typically do well with people partying at the club or general listeners, but his audience was other producers, and most producers I know are always going to be far more impressed by something new and original.
@@jaminjones8784 Exactly, producers are the only people that criticise other producers, and he's approaching the battle like he's producing for consumers
I feel like producers are reaching for newer sounds when there just isn’t much else you can do musically. Like todays producers are producing off kilter, awkward drum patterns and it’s being called “unique” and “original”. So truthfully I think producers criticizing production these days is counter productive considering the only way to impress any of them is unless you open the 8th gate on your daw and program a god-like 16 bar masterpiece while praying to god it’s outlandish enough
The only beat battles I’ve been to and enjoyed watching was when the judges gave all the producers the same Zip drive and they all made beats from the same samples in real time
Respect to him for taking it on the chin and uploading anyway. You're right, it's the sample choice that screwed him, not how good the beat was. Poor taste = L.
@Weaverbeats true, but don't you think Curtiss would have felt something similar about that beat? Hearing that couldve made him switch up his approach to the beats he brought
sounds like those annoying posts of him making beats really fast (fast means hes good right?) and all the comments saying how godlike, he is letting his ego think he was going to win easily. wow he cooking guys by showing how good he is......at taking another producers work and remixing it. defeats the purpose of a beat battle? hope this gives him a bit wake up call to work on his craft more. i do respect he posted it, that took balls.
He should double down and come to the next one with the same outfit and harder beats. Actually flip a sample, not just dub step it. Even if it’s an original, it needs energy.
@11:06 "so was I able to win off the strength of my music alone?" Dude when you are sampling so hard, you look DUMB when you ask that question. I don't look down on people who sample. I do it sometimes, but don't pretend that you "created" something from scratch. "so was I able to win off the strength of my creative use of samples in a remix?" would have been an accurate question.
@@damousx6860 being accurate in your words is important. He didn't create that music. If they said strength of my remix that would have been fine. Simon knows good producers who have experience with beat battles. He should of hit up Curtiss King or Oh Gosh Leotus for tips
