If you wanted a Dragon Type for your team without going the Legendary rout, you could have went with Haxorus. I mean, it has insane physical strength and decent bulk, and you can get it and evolve it more quicker than Hydreigon. Plus, it's my favourite Dragon Type! Yay, Haxorus
Aye thats my man! Ironically, it's been my favorite pokemon for a while, and I only realized recently that it's national dex number is 612, which is the same as my birthday, June 12.
@@dragonitecharrizard Correct, it's just expensive since you need to 3DSs to complete it. They used to all Memory Link through the online Game Link but that's shut down.
I agree that the French name had to be saved for the next gen, but since he always uses vanilla “Johnny” for the male trainers nothing stops him for reusing “Jehanne” if he goes for other female trainers in future Pokémon reviews.
Speaking of Cory In the House, I saw a DVD of That's So Raven in the ANIME section of my local WalMart. I'm like "WTF; did Johnny work here short term?"
As someone who has recently used one, Stunfisk is actually super underrated. It can take hits surprisingly well, and in combination with its static ability as well as giving it the rocky helmet it can be a great check towards physical attackers. No joke, my Stunfisk managed to tank an earthquake from Ghetsis' Bouffalant, paralyze it with a thunder wave, then finished it off. Of course it's completely outclassed in every way by Ferrothorn, but Stunfisk is not bad by any means; at least in single player. Simisear? Yeah that thing just straight up sucks.
@@jasonwallgren2296 Darmanitan only has the hidden ability if you wake up one of the statues in front of the Relic Castle. If you evolve a regular Darumaka, it’s ability goes from Guts to Sheer Force, which is amazing
@@mcgoldenblade4765I agree, Stunfisk is very underrated, forcing your Pokémon to roll the dice on whether or not they get to hit you at all. Accuracy drops from muddy water, paralyze checks from static and discharge, etc
Something skimmed over that was super unique. Your league attempt is interrupted by N. You beat the four Elite Four members and go to face Alder/The Champion. You walk in on N kicking his ass and then the Pokemon League is assaulted by Team Plasma. Typically the gangs don't get too far in tackling the league (insert lance hyper beaming rocket peeps), but Plasma made a full on assault on the league. Then all the Gym leaders and yourself have to go into basically a warzone fighting Team Plasma in a deathmatch of sorts. The leaders fighting all the Plasma Elders whilst you take on N and Ghetsis. Even after all that, you still never got to face Alder. It's the only Pokemon main game that doesn't end on the Champion fight (unless, of course, you count N as a champion, but I don't tend to see people that say that).
@@EdgyZiggy Sorry, I worded my post a bit weird. My point was that this was the only pokemon main game (to my knowledge) that didn't end on a champion fight. My comment about not being able to fight Alder is meant for Main Game not post game.
John, I just want you to know you're the only person I've ever seen legitimately use a Stunfisk in their playthrough, and for that you've made me proud.
I love how pissed Hilda looks in her portrait before important battles. Reshiram has a catch rate of 30, which is significantly higher than the typical Legendary catch rate of one. The same goes for Zekrom. This is good, because catching Reshiram or Zekrom is mandatory. You are _not allowed_ to fight N until that dragon is in your PC or your party. However, that 30 catch rate means that it's not much more difficult to catch them than any random wild Pokémon, and even if you don't, there's a female Team Plasma Grunt who will give you free Ultra Balls if you run out.
20:20 SwSh review foreshadowing. Speaking of, you know the guy who is the art directer for gen 8? Well this is his first job for designing some original Pokemon. Like the Vanillite line, the Golett line, and the Vullaby line.
It should be this was his first job, when I read this it sounded like you said his first job was art design for swsh and he also did those gen 5 pokemon and that didnt make sense
And that's annoyingly inconsistent that john is skipping the most devisive generation the 3DS era and it will probably be another 5+ years before they get reviews D:
People are a bit unfair to this guy because of the Vanillite line but I really like his work and I'm looking forward to see the art direction in Gen 8. Art direction, world building, character design and music are things Pokémon almost never misses, and honestly it is reason enough for me to pick up Sword/Shield despite the bullshit around it.
No indie games and hell gamefreaks more recent titles really showed the benefits of 2D. Theres less money, time, and detail required and for a developer that's constantly crunched by the pokemon company and their marketing division that's what they should be doing. BDSP shows just how poorly 3D can turn out even if it's simple and it's just embarrassing why it had to be this way...
That's cause sprites are like animation, your brain makes up most of the details, with 3d just like live action the detail should already be there(but the sprites were a lot more expressive still)
Gen 5 is the best gen hands down. Best music(fucking everywhere had a bop), and imo most unique pokemon. Especially legendarys. My favorite thing about this gen is definitely the atmosphere and world. It felt like what happened in B/W actually influenced what happened in B/W 2, that's the main thing that makes me love this gen.
gAME fREAK: [is alledgedly losing relevance in the Pokemon company because mobile games are selling more with less resources] me, a multiverse brain-level intellectual: Maybe if there was actual effort put in to the main series games again, you lousy useless buffoons probably wouldn't be in this mess

Given what's occured with Pokémon since this generation, its safe to say this was the peak of Game Freak's ambition with Pokémon. Also, walking-talking dildos
gen 3, 4 and 5 are the best. (i never played 1 and 2) 6 and 7 are way too easy and childish in my opinion, and gen 8 looks like its going to be even worse in that regard
really? gen 7? ultra beasts? a sympathetic "evil" team? new forms of old pokemon? a new gimmick accessible to everything? finally having the guts to trash HMs? a main villain so twisted and sick you just want her dead? in the ultra games, a SYMPATHETIC take on that same character and a POKEMON as the main villain? FREAKING ULTRA SPACE? ALSO KNOWN AS LEGENDARY CENTRAL? Peak of ambition my ass.
GeekachuIChooseYou i just said “its not for me” go play it if you enjoy it, i dont care. but i wont, and i wasnt even talking to you i was just stating which ones i like best
[In relation to Hydreigon's high level requirement to evolve] "Even with Audino grinding, that's just a chore." Speaking as someone whose last playthrough of this game involved grinding the Larvesta you get from an egg on Route 18 all the way up to Lv. 59 to have a Volcarona for the Elite Four(Which I believe I did for the sake of having a solid counter to Ghetsis' Hydreigon that kicked my ass in my past playthroughs), I can attest to that kind of leveling being quite a chore.
I did something similar in gen 4 by going out of my way to get a Garchomp before fighting Cynthia... Know how that went? Of course, her Garchomp outsped and Earthquaked my entire team anyway. I had never before felt so defeated.
@@sterlingmuse5808 meanwhile, I caught a Swinub, got it into Mamoswine, used Ice Shard to outspeed and two-hit KO Garchomp while living through a Flamethrower 😏
Transformers. To be fair, u can capture Volcarona at the new breach in Relic Castle & it's at level 70. But that happens after u beat Ghethis. So yeah.
Xx DanTheMan16 it is NOT underrated anymore. It’s not overrated, but I can’t go anywhere without someone praising it. A lot of people say the DS era was Pokémon’s best
Xx DanTheMan16 I wouldn’t say Diamond and Pearl was the best, way too much slow down and not much to do. But Platinum, HGSS and Gen 5 definitely deserves their praise
Rippen_Crippen if I was being honest, I’d say that Gen 6 was my least favorite Gen due to how little I go back to it. (Now that dose not mean I hate it, I don’t hate a single Gen so far, but it is the one I like the least) Gen 7 however is a Gen I actually really like. The totems and trials were honestly a nice attempt to be different and that Grass trial was more challenging than most Gym Leaders of the past. I do applaud Gamefreak for the attempt to try something different in Gen 7. I dose still feel similar yes, but to make a big change to a staple in a franchise isn’t as easy as one thinks, and in the end, I did like it
A third version was speculated for god damn near every generation after Platinum came out. Pokemon Gray, Pokemon Z, Pokemon Star, and then (jokingly) Pokemon Gun
Sun & Moon are still great games. They're not perfect. Sure. There are some flaws here & there. Like the tutorial at the beginning being at least 2 hours long & some little pacing issue; especially if your playing it on the old & classic 3DS system. But it's not that bad since at least the tutorial does give you optional things that u can do during the tutorial & I don't think it's even the worst of the slow beginning. The Sinnoh games had it the worst of slow beginning. And the pacing is nowhere near as bad as; once again, Gen. 4 was ( More specifically, Diamond, Pearl & Platinum. Heartgold and Soulsilver gets an pass. ). As for the whole dialog and/or cutscenes being to long & no option to turn off & such, it really never bug me. And you do realize that it's been that way since the beginning of the first Pokemon games. Including the Gen. 6 games. Sun and Moon has some flaws. But mostly, it's still an refreshing game & it is one of the best Pokemon games out there along with others. Now I will say that I enjoy Black 2 and White 2 & Heartgold and Soulsilver a little bit more than Sun and Moon. But still, Sun and Moon are great games & in my honest opinion, the last good Pokemon games ever produced.
@@lime2779 Only reason I was able to replay Gen 7 was cuz I was playing along with a friend and we were doing stupid voices over Skype. Including Mickey Mouse Lusamine. And no, we actually didn't steal that idea from Shady and Nappy's Sun and Moon Soul Link, it's just a really weird coincidence.
Pikaton659 Same, I actually had to think about strategy other than just type matchups. The only other difficult Pokémon game I enjoy is this fangame called Pokémon Reborn. It’s actually making me enjoy Pokémon again, being that Gen 6 and 7 kinda lowed my enthusiasm for the series.
42Caios. Sun and Moon are great games. But still doesn't compared to Black 2 and White 2 personally. Still love Sun and Moon though. As for X and Y, well it speaks for itself. It's not an terrible game by all means. But compared to like say Emerald, it is really lacklustering, underwhelming and even boring.
@@bigpenny8223 Ah, they might have a point. Mainly Asians in Japan, so they might not have felt the need to put black characters in. Odd how they didn't put them in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald or Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.
I mean they're not really "black" just dark skinned. They're not from Africa and they don't have African features, they're basically just dark skinned anime characters.
Gen 5 was my absolute favorite when it came out, and definitely is still up there for me. I LOVED how the Gym Leaders actually played a role in the story.
They weren't bad, but they were best when he used them as jokes. My favorites were "Giovanni, the soon-to-be former leader of Team Rocket" and then the Tails Adventure stuff
I agree, Johnny-this game would have been WAY better without Ghetsis. Although, in the sequels they do some pretty interesting things with Team Plasma and how this causes a divide in their members between who follows N and who follows Ghetsis, so there you go.
As much as I love Ghethis as an villian, he should've waited till Black 2 and White 2. There's no point of having him in the first one to support N of the entire game.
TheHeroOfTomorrow I think ghetsis being so obvious is for preventing the player to fall for their philosophy. Yes, some of us thought at once in the gane of It is really bad having pokemon captured and fighting each other, but seing ghetsis being as it is keeps you on rails. At least I think.
brandon roberts Not necessarily. If it was undermined then the good plasma on B2/W2 weren't impactful at all. The philosophy stands, but divides in the two intentions the people on team plasma were using it to.
@@jjc4924 Honestly same though. Ghetsis being in the main story was what soured the plot of Black and White for me a little. I mean, he could’ve still been mentioned since he’s the one who influenced N to be the way he is the most and was the perpetrator behind the motives of N and Team Plasma. As much as I love Black and White 2, the story felt very subdued as if it was being too safe. If I could imagine a more cohesive and meaningful plot for the sequels, I would want N to be more present and the main goal this time would be in assisting N to confront his “father” once and for all after everything that has happened to N in the previous years. Thanks to the protagonists in the original games, N was able to learn how to love Pokémon in a different light, and now that he’s essentially on your side, the main drive of Black and White 2 should’ve been his quest of him reaching out and appealing to the remaining members of Neo-Team Plasma, and his father most of all. My favorite moment ever actually in the Black and White saga was during that moment we got to see N and Ghetsis see each other in the Giant Chasm. That moment was so profound and somber almost, and that should’ve been the first scene where N and Ghetsis finally meet in person after having spent that life of desolation and solitude for years.
Black and White was the Pokemon game that made me get back into the series after having fallen off during Gen 4. For pretty much the reasons John said, it captivated in a way Pokemon hadn't managed to do so before.
One of my favorite aspects about N is that he always talks faster than other people. His text speed is always set one level higher than yours to seem that he's trying to get his point across as fast as possible.
The new 150 was actually the biggest draw for me. You could still bring back older pokemon and it felt like a chance to really start a new journey. Plus I honestly love the Unova designs. They have a really great color pallet.
I don't remember much of Gen 4s themes honestly, though ones I can recall are still killer. But Jesus this game and especially the sequel have fantastic music. Hell, my favorite theme from that is the Neo Team Plasma Grunt theme, and mad respect to Hugh's theme as well!
@@DoctorDisasterDracula Now that I think about it, Gen 4's music was alright. Didn't really like Barry's and Cynthia's theme. Loved Team Galactics hideout theme tho cause god damn I love me some jazz. Gen 5 trainer themes were good. Colress, Hugh, Gym Leader, Champion and the PWT Finals theme are really good. Hell, even the wild pokemon battle theme is pretty good too. N's theme is probably my favorite tho
I respectfully... actually do quite understand and somewhat agree with that opinion. Then again most of the mainline games plots aren't great. 6 is probably the worst case as the plot feels like it doesn't really go anywhere.
*Didn't You Know?* Way less people would be upset if Game Freak just released a Pokemon game with a few new pokemon and focused on actually improving the game in other critical ways, like improving story (Black and White were the first stories I cared about personally), graphics / animations, and overall game content (like a good postgame). I believe Black and White were vastly underrated considering the way they improved these 3 things, as well as fixing problems like the speed aspect (mainly text / battles and saving) of D/P.
Sad part is that I believe Pokemon: Black & White undersold and thus, Game Freak probably didn't see the point of putting in as much super effort as they did in this game.
I still remember taking on Kyurem, getting the crap kicked out of me to the point where I was too busy running damage control to actually throw balls...and this loop went on so long that Kyurem used Struggle and killed itself.
I jumped on this so quickly when I checked my notifications. an almost half hour of johnny reviewing my favorite generation and there's still more to come? holy shit, there is a god.

I’m very happy you’ve continued this UA-cam journey and you’re one of the only ones that I subbed to that have stayed consistent with video games. Yet for most people it's the other way around considering gen 5 is overall the worst selling generation while the community just became WAY more alive during gen 6.
Gen 6 in general was terrible. The more time passes the less I like both X/Y and Omega Rubyt/Alpha Sapphire. Sun and Moon is a remarkable improvement over Gen 6 but it still feels like it's walking baby steps towards making up for the huge downturn in quality Gen 6 took when compared to Gen 5.
@@42Caio XY is an unfinished game waiting for the real version to show up much like any other first game in a generation starting at gen 4 but it is still (very) easily better than diamond and pearl at least.
Gen 6 only got huge because it was the first mainline Pokemon game in FULL 3D, something every person dreamed of since gen 1. It was only after the release did people realize how little content Gen 6 had
Oh shiz, we're finally here! The most controversial gen... Or at least, used to be the most controversial, 'till Sword and Shield that is. Anyways, can't wait to hear what 'ol Johnny has to say.
"Or at least, used to be the most controversial, 'till Sword and Shield that is." Those games haven't even come out yet...it's really sad.... Anyone remember GF saying that Sword & Shield are geared more towards competitive players? Anyone remember the Let's Go bashing and how they would wait for Sword & Shield? How the tides have turned my friends....
I had the feeling it'd be a two-parter, because Johnny just loves to go into a lot of detail, which I can greatly appreciate. But, I've got to be honest here, I really need to start a new game in Generation V to give it a second chance, because when I first played Black/White back in 2011, I did not have a good time. But now I have been convinced to try it again, when I have the opportunity.
I remember I skip this gen before going to Gen. 6 and after completing it, I was really disappointed at Gen. 6 for how low quality it was. And so I have Black & White 1 and 2 an try. After completing them, I enjoy Gen. 5 way more than Gen. 6 honestly. And it's an shame because Gen. 6 could've been alot better if they make an Z Version.
Johnny! Though an outsider to Pokémon, this is the generation I saw on TV. I have either White 2 or Black 2, so maybe I have something to look forward to?
Hostius Hostilius Well, like I said, I’m more of an outsider on Pokémon. Love the style (the old style) the concept, but never really got into it. I saw promos and a few episodes of B&W, but I didn’t give it much attention.
And that was the last I watched Pokémon on tv pikachu losing to a new trainer and a Pokémon that never fought before I was done but that generation was one of my favorite Pokémon games
before the vid i gotta say this is my favorite gen, and the music is god tier edit: good vid, my favorite part was how the gyms were actually kinda challenging but didn't require grinding just some strategy
You got a Female Oshawott at your first attempt and name her Shalashaska?... I love you Johnny xD Also, really glad that you like B/W, is my favorite pokemon game nvn
I honestly feel that they should return to 2D sprites in a later game/spin-off. They just feel like pokemon to me, especially now that they can be fully animated. Plus shiny sprites look amazing compared to their 3D models which give off a watered-down look.
I had the exact same thought. Wouldn't a fresh 2D mainline game in the same style as Octopath Traveler be amazing? Going back to 2D would kinda go against the concept of evolution though.
@@Sjono He's the typical dark skinned Asian character that's constant in anime. Or the ambiguous black character where you can't tell what race he is besides Asian or white until told so.
your reviews, or idk, at least This one, are so much better than most UA-cam Game Reviews that are just a list of a games features. You've been talking about Your Feelings on the story for like 10 minutes. I LOVE THAT. Other game reviewers need to learn from your willingness to say "i feel this" or "i would want this." AND you left the plug for the end, oh, you absolute peach
Black and White is peak GameFreak for me. This is the first game where gym leaders and E4 are involved in the plot against Plasma, and N is easily the most nuanced antagonist in the entire series. And the Legendary Dragon's representing both "Truth" and "Ideals," plus the fact that N connects to a different dragon depending on your game, reinforces the fact that in B/W both you and N are right in your viewpoints. Neither of you is wrong, you're both just following your Ideals and you both have your own beliefs, or truths.
The best Pokémon gen. They haven’t topped it since. Also I love how Johnny’s intro implies he gets ready to do a review by facing the corner of the room as he puts his hat on.
Here's a neat fun fact: In fights with N (minus the final one), he only uses Pokémon from the previous area, at the highest level that they could be caught there. Gen 5 makes itself slightly easier for the purposes of pushing its narrative, and I think that's impressive.
FYI this is the first generation that doesn't require you to have badges in order to use HM's. For example Fly is given to after you beat the fourth or fifth gym in both B/W and B2/W2. But if you trade for a Pokemon that knows fly when trading becomes available(after the second gym) you can use fly immediately.
Aw hell yeah Gen 5, my favorite generation. The first Black and White game has an amazing story that explores Pokemon's world more than nearly every game in the franchise, and I love it because it makes the universe feel more alive. N is probably the best character in the entire series, as we get to know and understand his vision of what the Pokemon World should be like, and he's always respectful about other people's ideals, even if he disagrees with them; and the your final battle with him is my absolute favorite fight in the entire series. Honestly, my only problem with Gen 5 nowadays is that it's often sited as where Pokemon "peaked" and the games after that went "downhill" (which is something I disagree with heavily), but other than that Generation 5 is absolutely my favorite Generation of Pokemon.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Even though Gen. 5; mostly Black 2 and White 2, are my absolute favorites of the series, I also didn't think it went downhill after Gen. 5. I mean. Yeah. X and Y were an huge disappointment. But there not terrible games. But not that great either. I'm mostly referred to Sun and Moon. Those are still great games, despite some people hating on it for no reason. They're not perfect. Sure. And at the end of the day, I still prefer Black 2 and White 2 & Heartgold and Soulsilver over it anyday. But there still amazing & refreshing Pokemon games we ever had & it's one of the best Pokemon games out there. And Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are really good games as an remake of Gen. 3. Dare I say that like the remake of Gen. 3 more than the originals? Wasn't a huge fan of Emerald. But ORAS did it better for me. Yeah. It's no Firered and Leafgreen or Heartgold and Soulsilver level as tremendous remake. But it was still an good remake & the better Gen. 6 game personally. Sun and Moon; in my honest opinion, were the last great Pokemon games that Gamefreak has ever produced. Afterwards, it did went downhill. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were kinda disappointed as an 3rd exclusive & don't get me started on Let's Go. So hopefully Sword and Shield will make up the mistakes that Gamefreak left out.
@@jjc4924 I'll fully admit that Sun & Moon had their share of problems but they were still special games to me. And yea it really sucks that people can't seem praise gen 5 without putting down everything that came after it (just say BW are good games, it's not that hard). I agree with the assertion that Pokemon "peaked" during the DS era but I don't think it's been straight downhill ever since and seeing people say that regrettably makes me feel a bit resentful towards those games
Diamond. Understandable. I have no problem if Sun and Moon are your favorites & you're probably not alone. There are many people that loves Sun and Moon anyway. It just that some people who don't like the game gives lame excuses why they don't like it. I don't care if they don't like it & that's fine. But the way they say why it's bad is mostly stupid & retarded.
I remember Johnny once putting out a tweet that said the answer to any question along the lines of "Will you ever review X?" is 'Eventually'. (Unless it's Kirby)
I think I remember reading about a fun fact about N, none of his Pokemon are sent out in a Pokeball. And each time you battle him all of the Pokemon he uses in each team can be found in the wild. He basically calls in wild Pokemon to do battle like a Disney Princess, I think Zorua is the only reoccuring one too. It's a very interesting detail and also further shows how different he is from the rest of Team Plasma.
"We have Coballion Terrakion and Verizon" THANK U I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!🤣 Also its thanks to Gen 5 that got me back into Pokemon cause it was my very first Pokemon game i will always remember of catching Zekrom I love my electric dragon son!
I loved tripple battles, it was my favorite to do in multiplayer and I even came up with a fun strategy where you had a fast Pokemon use skydrop and a slow Pokemon use fly on the same pokemon and you 3rd one use an aoe attack to hit the other two opponent Pokemon.
Man, I remember when they had the tour for this game to let people try the game out. I believe that was around the time of the shiny celebi and shiny suicune events for the gen 4 games. I still remember the little animation tour of unova they had at said event. Anyone remember going to that tour?

If you wanted a Dragon Type for your team without going the Legendary rout, you could have went with Haxorus. I mean, it has insane physical strength and decent bulk, and you can get it and evolve it more quicker than Hydreigon. Plus, it's my favourite Dragon Type! Yay, Haxorus

Johnny when you’re playing Black 2, use a different name so the memory link doesn’t become confusing
Memory Link was technically shut down with the servers. However it is possible to use Memory Link with two DSs.
Memory Link servers? I thought Memory Link was only available by connecting 2 DS’s with Black/white and Black 2/ White 2
@@titansparrow64 Memory link still works just fine, even with two 3DS, I did it a while ago
This name is not French and doesn't exist so think twice before insulting people
@@dragonitecharrizard Correct, it's just expensive since you need to 3DSs to complete it. They used to all Memory Link through the online Game Link but that's shut down.
5:05 Johnny you should have saved that name for the X & Y review because the region in that game is based in France
Leave it to Johnny to give the protagonist trainer for the american inspired region a french inspired name.
But that review wont likely come for some years time it took 6 years after gen 2 for a revisit :( and that sucks
Watch his XY protag be made as American as possible.
I agree that the French name had to be saved for the next gen, but since he always uses vanilla “Johnny” for the male trainers nothing stops him for reusing “Jehanne” if he goes for other female trainers in future Pokémon reviews.
@@KremBotop He could also use Jeanne instead. What? It counts XD
Speaking of Cory In the House, I saw a DVD of That's So Raven in the ANIME section of my local WalMart. I'm like "WTF; did Johnny work here short term?"
One of the only cases in anime where the anime spinoff is better than the manga original.
I mean... We DID have that meme _before_ Johnny reviewed the Cory in the House game XD
You beat Gen 5 with a Simisear and a Stunfisk.
You have my absolute respect.
@@mcgoldenblade4765 To be fair Stunfisk’s typing is very unique
@@jasonwallgren2296 Well Semisear just gets completely outclassed by the other Fire Monkey, Darmanitan
@@jasonwallgren2296 Darmanitan only has the hidden ability if you wake up one of the statues in front of the Relic Castle. If you evolve a regular Darumaka, it’s ability goes from Guts to Sheer Force, which is amazing

@espeonranger Is the last one AT&T?
You never got to face Alder until the post-game, you mean.
I mean, you can battle Alder in post-game because N won't come back until the Unova sequels...
@@EdgyZiggy Sorry, I worded my post a bit weird. My point was that this was the only pokemon main game (to my knowledge) that didn't end on a champion fight. My comment about not being able to fight Alder is meant for Main Game not post game.
@@ShadowtheUA-camr523 since Kanto was post-game for johto, the main game technically ends on a champion fight (lance)

Just use a quick ball lmao
Not quite. It IS possible to skip them - by having a full PC. In which case, you can catch them later in another area that they go to and sit at.
What if you KO the legendary?
@@HarbingerYT You'll get no EXP, and it'll stay there, ready to battle again, until you catch it.
Fighting Reshiram/Zekrom in there was basically:

N: "Didn't catch it, doesn't count."
@@AlphaladZXA Do you know why he won't review those games?
People are a bit unfair to this guy because of the Vanillite line but I really like his work and I'm looking forward to see the art direction in Gen 8. Art direction, world building, character design and music are things Pokémon almost never misses, and honestly it is reason enough for me to pick up Sword/Shield despite the bullshit around it.
@@42Caio He also designed Trevevant, Guzzlord and Nagadael.

I really like the gen 5 animated sprites, they're so much more colourful and expressive than the current 3d models.
2d vs 3d the war will never end
Gen 5 is super underrated some of the best games in the series
Xx DanTheMan16 it is NOT underrated anymore. It’s not overrated, but I can’t go anywhere without someone praising it. A lot of people say the DS era was Pokémon’s best
Joe Green I mean the DS Era was Gen 4 and 5 we’re so amazing From D/P/P to HGSS to BW to BW2 it was the best across the board
Joe Green I can see that. I personally enjoyed the 3ds era more but I still enjoyed the DS era
(Now that dose not mean I hate it, I don’t hate a single Gen so far, but it is the one I like the least)
Gen 7 however is a Gen I actually really like.

Rippen_Crippen gen 7 was good but it’s so hard to replay or just play at all because there is SO much handholding
Totally agree. This was the last time Gamefreak TRIED.

The story in Black & White 1 is still great though. Don't get me wrong. But I think it would've been alot better without Ghethis till Black & White 2.
That's hilarious
It seems like a child finding someone they like lol
The new 150 was actually the biggest draw for me. You could still bring back older pokemon and it felt like a chance to really start a new journey.
Plus I honestly love the Unova designs. They have a really great color pallet.
Yay, my favorite Gen! Because of the plot and characters!
Don't forget music. God damn the music is as good as Gen 4
I don't remember much of Gen 4s themes honestly, though ones I can recall are still killer.
But Jesus this game and especially the sequel have fantastic music. Hell, my favorite theme from that is the Neo Team Plasma Grunt theme, and mad respect to Hugh's theme as well!
@@DoctorDisasterDracula
Now that I think about it, Gen 4's music was alright.
And the black people!
Didn'tYouKnowVideoGames? Yeah Gen VII was great.
IMO gen 6 is underrated not the best gen but one of the most necessary but gets a lot of undeserved hate and even fixed the meta game

Those games haven't even come out yet...it's really sad....
Shiro-Luna just started another emerald run lets hope i dont get my data wiped this time with emulator lol 😁
Man you saw the weakest era of the pokemon anime I feel bad for u now... go watch other gens their better
Oh, poor you. This was debatably the best generation for the games... and unanimously the worst generation for the anime.
There was no Gen 5 anime.
Hostius Hostilius
Well, like I said, I’m more of an outsider on Pokémon.
"Favourite anime"
Plays Cory in the House on DS
See, this is why I subbed all those years ago.
before the vid i gotta say this is my favorite gen, and the music is god tier
edit: good vid, my favorite part was how the gyms were actually kinda challenging but didn't require grinding just some strategy
You got a Female Oshawott at your first attempt and name her Shalashaska?... I love you Johnny xD
Also, really glad that you like B/W, is my favorite pokemon game nvn
I honestly feel that they should return to 2D sprites in a later game/spin-off. They just feel like pokemon to me, especially now that they can be fully animated.
Plus shiny sprites look amazing compared to their 3D models which give off a watered-down look.
I had the exact same thought. Wouldn't a fresh 2D mainline game in the same style as Octopath Traveler be amazing? Going back to 2D would kinda go against the concept of evolution though.
4:04 “I can’t believe it took until Gen 5 until we got black trainers”
Well what do you call Brock?
Sjono Asian, look at his stereotypical eyes
6026961
How does closing your eyes automatically make you Asian in anime?
@@Sjono He's the typical dark skinned Asian character that's constant in anime. Or the ambiguous black character where you can't tell what race he is besides Asian or white until told so.
Half blood Asian I guess? Phoebe (gen 3 elite 4) also has slightly darker skin like Brock but I never considered both as black
I always thought Brock was black.
your reviews, or idk, at least This one, are so much better than most UA-cam Game Reviews that are just a list of a games features. You've been talking about Your Feelings on the story for like 10 minutes. I LOVE THAT. Other game reviewers need to learn from your willingness to say "i feel this" or "i would want this."
AND you left the plug for the end, oh, you absolute peach
I can agree. As much as I love Heartgold and Soulsilver or Sun and Moon, Black 2 and White 2 still remains as my favorites.
johnnys right, i do love audino, its so cute!
oh and its also good exp fodder...
Here's a neat fun fact: In fights with N (minus the final one), he only uses Pokémon from the previous area, at the highest level that they could be caught there. Gen 5 makes itself slightly easier for the purposes of pushing its narrative, and I think that's impressive.
I am honestly really happy you like this game since it is my favorite generation. Also, genuinely surprised you Stunfisk, but also happy about it.
Brandon. U mean thank god Gen. 7 didn't brought back HM's.
2:22 "That is my impression of American advertising!"
Hey quick question, would you ever review the kid icarus games?
Especially Uprising. ChuggaConroy was the reason I downloaded that masterpiece.
I remember Johnny once putting out a tweet that said the answer to any question along the lines of "Will you ever review X?" is 'Eventually'.
(Unless it's Kirby)
@@crazyshark1016 Didn't he announce the Kirby Marathon at TooManyGames?
@@tastethepainbow If he did, we on the internet know not
Dude, I love your channel. You have become one of my favorite youtubers for quite a while. Go beyond, Plus Ultra!
20:05 Jet-flyin', limousine-ridin', kiss-stealin', wheelin' and dealin' "The Nature Bat" WOOOOO!!!!
Man, I have so many memories of black and white 1 and 2! Awesome video dood!
