Champions Battle of the Bikes - Boardman V's Obree

- When Chris Boardman first raced against Graeme Obree, in a time trial in Newtonards, Northern Ireland, in 1990, it was the start of a rivalry that captivated the British public for a decade and brought cycling on to the front pages.
Boardman was the establishment figure: reserved, scientific, middle-class.
Obree was the rebel: the Flying Scotsman, working-class, riding a home-made bike.
Both were after one thing - to be the fastest man on two wheels. - Спорт
*Looked at a lot of options for getting my **Latest.Bike** . Great find in SAVA. Super light, nice components, really good value as it comes with many options only found in much higher priced bikes.*
Graeme was always supported by me. It just sounded bad. I went to all his races except the World's. I am very proud of him.
It was emotional abuse. You tried to guilt him for following his dreams.
You are as much a legend

I met Graeme a few years ago at a cycle show. Just for something to say, I mentioned that I was doing a 25 the next day and did he have any tips? He spoke at me for over 20 minutes about positioning, breathing, cadence, pacing ... A guy with an incredible passion for the sport. Jokingly, afterwards I told people that he was my trainer. I still never got under the hour. What an incredible human being he is.
Graeme obree is a Legend he is responsible for changing cycling and bikes Graeme and his old faithful machine pure genius, para
it's awesome how Obree completely smashes the competition in the world champs- starting 31:25
and how Chris Boardman is so gracious in defeat
Graeme Obree what an amazing guy, Boardman had all the support, money, tech, bike developed worth a fortune, heart rate monitor, power meter. Obree had none of that crap and blew Boardman out of the water.
Until Boardman took the record back. 😂
We’ll the aerodynamics of his riding style was worth 2 kilometres per hour - ie. he’d not have got anywhere a medal without it.
James Taylor Wrong, keep up man.
@@stevecooper7038 no ,he complained to the cycling authorities re obrees riding style and that his bike wasn't up to ,"cycling standards.boardman was a grass
obree's bike aerodynamic advantage was proven on the wind tunnel of MERCEDES-AMG F1 TEAM a few years ago. the man is a genius

both proper geezers, but building your own bike on the dole, and then beating the best, well that's amazing really. Respect
fantastic documentary about two legends of the sport and their completely different approaches! Thanks for posting!
Back when channel 4 made good documentaries.
this is just amazing to watch not into cycling l am but wow what a story with real colours of life with no facebook and crap
Graham's bike position was vastly more aerodynamic then any other bike of the time and even now (excluding faired recumbents). That said Graham was a great athlete and a genius in his own right, his ideas on aerodynamics were way ahead for their time.
I knew the story but I realize how much a man can be pure. Graeme is the only one of one. Not just one of a kind, he is still more than that.
What an amazing story.
Thanks for this. Two great competitors, real innovators and top athletes. I loved the old Sgt major type at the nationals who was wearing the cap that said "the boss" 😂

Big obree.. Super like.. By Warmachine bodybuilding
Liked seeing the Eureka cafe at Two Mills. Very interesting documentary. Lots of class, in every sense.
If you want to increase your tolerance to lactic acid -one word -beef. I was working in construction and I kept having a hard go of it , physically . My work partner , who was a cyclist and inline rollerblade racer , told me to eat steak, He said it will provide for endurance and for late, next day energy. He was right as I had an easier go of things working construction and once I left the field and got back into cycling the main thing I noticed was a reduced level of lacticity. Hey -don't take my word for it - try it.
Wow! I had no idea. Graeme is a real hero. Just wow! And I am a huge Chris fan.
Way to go buddy!
The hour record spoiled the prep for the World Champs for both riders but only one mentions it. For me Graeme achieved a heck of a lot with very little whereas Chris has certain advantages.
Both class men
amazing he won with a half washing machine bycycle
home-made vs Lotus... sounds like he wasn't supposed to win ?
I can design tradionally pedalled cycle that can go 70-80 km/h without an aerodynamic windshield.
I can too, just waiting for the right moment.
@@ferventheat ...not an easy task.

@@ferventheat So can I but I'me a bit busy at the moment trying to do my shoelaces up.
