Couldn't they find a young German actor to play Rolf Wütherich? The man was only 27 years old when the crash happened. His life turned for the (much) worse after the crash and he died in a car accident in 1981 aged 53 when he lost of control of his Honda Civic and crashed into the wall of a residence.
Dean was scheduled to do a 'three picture deal', which included , "Somebody up there likes me" ; "The Left-Handed Gun" & a third film! Because of Dean's untimely death, newcomer Paul Newman filled in, essentially bolstering his career! Marlon Brando's career was already well underway, but Dean's dying eliminated his potential competition for similar roles! I'm 76 & remember that day! R.I.P.! James!
@Jack Smith multiple eye witnesses who he passed just before the crash testified he wasn't even the driver, and described Rolf Wutherich, his mechanic as the driver 😉
@Jack Smith I'm just telling you the proof that is written down in court documents and you can still find their testimony on YT. Put the words James Dean crash witnesses into YT and hear straight from them. The people who were there
@@thedbcooperforum everything isn't always as it seems. There's a good reason Rolf Wutherich and Donald Turn-U-Speed refused to talk publicly. The left side of his face took the brunt of the impact of the left side headlight which snapped his neck the car with no roll bar etc flipped up throwing the passenger out JD remains in the car sustained multiple fractures of his jaw , chest , arms etc avoiding fate can be tricky. RIP Leg !
James Dean had just past another car before the accident and had to quickly swerve back into his own lane to avoid hitting the car in front of the car he eventually hit. He did this at a speed around 60 - 70 mph. He was told earlier on the road trip by someone that his car was hard to see because of its color and being built low to the ground. Also, the guy driving the ford had just past two cars coming around the bend and had a car in front of him that probably blocked his line of sight. The car in front of the ford actually drove off the road when he saw James Dean's car approaching him.
Originally james dean had ordered a Lotus X from the Lotus car company after seeing the Lotus VIII in all the racing magazines of the time, he ordered it without an engine and planned to fit an Offenhauser to it, Colin Chapman of Lotus decided that the car would have to be fitted with drum brakes instead of disks since at the time the brits didnt want for americans getting hold of disk brakes (which were fairly new at the time). The car ended up being delayed and Dean went and bought the 550 as a car to drive until his new Lotus was ready, he didnt think much of the 550 prior to crashing it. The Lotus was eventually finished and exists today however dean never had a chance to sit in it.
Perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back was an ideosynchronicity of the Furman 547 flat four. They have a sort of roller Cam? Kind of early 50's motorcycle technology and I think it would have to be maintained at a high rev to not stall out?
Dean's left front wheel and door was all smashed in. So to was the left front of Turnupseed's Ford. This means that the Ford turned into Dean's Porsche pushing him out the car. It did not turn Infront of Dean as depicted in this recreation.
When you think actors like Robert Wagner, Robert Duval, Gene Hackman, William Shatner, etc. are as old or older than Dean & still alive, it's hard to realize that he's been gone 67 years! R.I.P. Jim!
From the looks of the accident happening looks like James Dean could avoided it by going to the left side instead of trying to beat the car ..if James Dean have had the choice . you could still be alive today .? BUT WE ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT REALLY HAPPENED O/R HOW ???
