Hi Ashly. I used go fly in and out of Hobart in the 1980s for work. Now, Australians are laid back, and the people of Hobart were the most laid back I had ever encountered. My favorite were the fish and chips from the fish shop on the docks of Hobart. The beer wasn't bad either.
Love your vids! I'm sorry that travelling back to Tas brought up anxiety for you. I'm Tasmanian and I feel out of place here, too. If I could afford to move interstate, I would. Your opinions are very valid. I wonder if it's because the population here is aging that there is so much resistance to change? I'm a millennial and so many of my friends have left the state for better work and accessibility. I think Tasmania is beautiful but I would prefer just to be a visitor. Wishing you the very best!
Nothing wrong with tasmania besides it's to cold in winter we're limited in some types of food that the mainland gets and that no good artists come here. Otherwise it's a good place to live
Well done Ashley and Partner it's a great way to see Hobart and what a good view from that house you're staying in 😊 oh OMG I forgot all about The Cat and The Fiddle I remember seeing it for the first time in 1980 when I was at school. Oh yeah I forgot to tell I was in Hobart on a very very hot day it was 38c and Mt Wellington was still freezing 🥶
Thank you for the trip down memory lane for me! I left Tasmania many, many moons ago and it was fun to see that the cow is still jumping over the moon on the Cat & Fiddle arcade clock 😂, and that the wind is still bloody awful & cold at the top of Mt Wellington. I wonder if there is still a yummy ice cream shop at Mures on the wharf. Hobart is a place where time moves slowly.
Finding good bagels in Australia isn’t easy because our Jewish population is only about 0.4%. Polish Jews brought bagels to the US and with more than 7.5 million Jews, the supply of bagels is way higher. They’re also much higher in sodium than regular bread, as much as 800mg per bagel.
Any tips on how to get a job that will sponsor you in Australia as a researcher? I'm USA citizen and have been here 1 year for a postdoc but contract is not being extended. I'm having a hard time finding another employer to sponsor me so I can stay here. I'm PhD cell biologist.
Yeah g'day Ash, Again with the bagels, it is not so much the availability but the freshness of all bakery products. Due to the price rises, etc with some cafes have cut back on their ordering affecting availability/freshness but my biggest beef at the moment is getting consistent poached eggs cookery.
@@coffeeenut Yeah g'day again Ash, in most cases the poached eggs are overcooked but you can also tell the difference between free range and battery farm in colour and taste.

If you're going to call someone out on something understand what you're calling them out on first lol. Technically it's spelt basil and pronounced as such the only reason you think it's basal is because of peoples accents but that's as far as it goes though. #fail

We Tasmanians are laid back towards fellow locals and tourists, sure. But if you arrive here and don't leave - that's a different story.
I love seeing the cat & fiddle! My grandpa made all the wooden parts for the clock!
no way!!
@@coffeeenut yep! ☺️
Approximately 47% of Tasmanian wine is sold within the state, 45% is sold to mainland Australia and the remaining 8% is exported.

i think it most definitely has to do partly with the ageing population!

Bagels are originally Lithuanian

i unfortunately haven’t heard of anyone sponsoring visas if that’s what you mean?
Educated people tend to go to the USA for better career opportunities, not the other way around. It would be better for you to return to America.

“It is basal not basil.” Basil Rathbone would disagree. Basilico is Italian.
A basal thermometer shows you the temperature in tenths of a degree.
You're wrong it's spelt basil
