Thanks mate. This video really helped me out today setting up my new Roland equipment. The Next conundrum is to get it all playing through the MX-1 Mixer.....................help!!!
Glad it helped. I've recently added an MX1 to my set up....it's amazing. I found this document really helped when I first got it....cdn.roland.com › MX-1_ExtMix_e01
This is such a useful video - thank you! Like the way the TR 8 can route individual tracks into Ableton via usb. I had no idea this was possible. This means you don't need a huge audio interface with 8 ins? Thinking about getting the Behringer RD-9 which has 8 audio outs. I assumed that I would need an audio interface with 8 ins to control individual drums but will this also do it via usb? Cheers
@@rezzonator thanks for this - that 8 ch focusrite is now looking an option as it seems they don't make TR-8s anymore. The other option is mixing the Behringer drums "in the box" - I guess you don't have to have 8 separate outs.
You could also record each drum separately for separation of drum tracks by soloing each drum sound and then recording. Lengthy process but does make mixing amd any edits a lot easier
Jerry Lee glad it was of help. my setup has changed quite a bit since I did this video. On the usb connections I now have TR8 in 1, system 1 in 2. TB-03 in 3 and the TB3 in 4
I use the TFP as the master clock source. Basically take the midi out into the in of the MX1 and then out of that into the TR8 etc...works fine as long as the hardware has midi thru. Just set the hardware I am controlling to receive midi clock externally and then when I press play on the TFP everything else starts playing along in time. Hope that makes sense.
Yes the velocity info will be sent. Check out my latest video I just put up today where I am sequencing everything from Ableton to the TR8,the TB3 and also to the Korg Volca Keys. The video is called Rezzonator Minimal Techno (ish) jam
Hallo Dear Rezzonator. I was seen your great Video on UA-cam how you was connecting an TB-3 and TR-8 into Ableton. But for now i Need your experience. How it is possible that i can use booth Devices and my VT-3 if my Audio Device is an internal RME HDSP 9652 Soundcard. Is it possible to record my sounds without using an extra Behringer ADA 8200. Because as I Know Windows can only handle one Audio Device. I would be so happy if you can give me an Step by Step List how i can run my device in Ableton. Maybe also as small drawing.Because if i have to send my Audio over Analog output i only can record the full sound or i misunderstand something in that point. I hope i don't waste your time with my questions.
@@rezzonator Hi there, i actually have the same problem. I can only record the "master" output of the TR8 but I would like to record all individual sound in individual tracks on ableton while playing and mixing it at the same time or isn't it possible? cheers mate!
@@diegoboom9111 think it will only send audio over usb to a DAW. Normal audio would be from the main output...hope that is what you meant as I assume you are using a focusrite audio interface
Hello, thanks a lot for your tuto. Every things seems to be ok but I still have one problem : when I switch monitor to on, I heard twice the sound of my TR, so the sound become dirty and the instrument like BD are saturated... I have noticed that even with the track activator on off, the sound of the TR is still here... How can I cut the signal from the TR, and keep only the sound from ableton ? Thanks by advance :)
Glad the tutorial was useful. I remember having that problem and I can't quite remember how I solved it. Think one way was to turn the Local off on the TR8 so it does not produce its internal sound. The TR manual tells you how to do it. Cheers
+Rezzonator Unfortunatly, the manuel is very slim ^^'. I can't manage to cut the internal sound and no way to find a solution on internet ... arrrrrf :(
+Axel Deyres Try this page.....www.roland.co.uk/support/knowledge_base/201920499. Scroll down to the midi local on/off section. Turn local off and see of that does the trick
+Rezzonator I manage to turn local off with your help. But it don't fix the problem... now, there isn't any sound from any instrument, even in ableton... So if local is ON I have two time the sound of TR, and if it is OFF i don't have sound anywhere. So frustrating aha
It may be latency due to your sound card settings. I sometimes have similar problems. Easiest way I found to sort it is to record everything slightly out of time and then quantize or warp it in Ableton or just shift the audio track so it's lined up on the grid
+stuif diana Its worth trying the TR8 as your sound card as well for recording and try to get the latency down as low as you can for recording. Anything around 6 or 7ms or less should be ok but you still may need to warp or quantize to get it exactly in time.
I've Been having issues doing that , ableton keeps loosing the midi signal from TFP... I put it in sync on live settings and put the TFP in clock internal mode but sometimes it just stops and the EXT mode in ableton becomes unselected...
I have done it that way as well as the TFP can send midi over usb and standard midi cable so I use the usb to clock to ableton with the Ext turned on in Live. Not had any issues with it so far doing it that way so not sure what your problem may be.
+Rezzonator probably it's something I'm doing wrong in the midi settings of ableton... So I need the sync selected for tfp , and EXT selected. anything I'm missing? I also have remote on and track for it...
Thought it would be easier to do a quick video to show my settings rather than trying to type them all out - vid is live now at this link - ua-cam.com/video/eAWg0s2wt0U/v-deo.html. Hope that helps

Not sure about the RD9. The RD8 doesn't as it doesn't work as an audio interface like the TR8 so assume the RD9 will be the same which is a shame.

I have a question: can I record in Ableton the single channel of TB3 while is playing with TR8?
i would assume you just set the tb3 to a channel that the tr8 isn't using, if you are using tr8 channels 3-13 i would just set the tb3 to channel 14.
Thanks man , i also noticed you have a TFP in your setup, can you tell me how do you sync it with the rest? Thanks in advance!

if i make a midi secuence from ableton a send it to the tr-8 , the velocity of the notes works on the tr8 drums?

You should do a vid with the mx-1 setting all on ableton cant find a decent vid on youtube.
