Great to have just found this recording. I was very lucky that the RAF sent me on a Sir Winston Churchill cruise during my apprenticeship. It was the first cruise of the season in January 1973. We put out from London Docks and visited Cherbourg, Dartmouth, Alderney and I think we finished up in Southampton. A gale blew in while we were in Cherbourg and the Captain was forced to put to sea because the ship was being battered against the harbor wall. The gale increased to Force 10 and we were running through the Channel at max hull speed with only the fore stay sail and a heavily reefed mizzen set. An unforgettable and exhilarating experience to be on the bridge with waves towering above us.
This is wonderful! I started sailing the schooners in the late 1990’s. I wish we still had them to sail on, but so happy I got the chance more than once before they were sold.
I enjoyed making the film. Wonderful young people and STA Crew. Pleased that you have good memories. I found the film in my garage along with other programmes that I had worked on. My son transferred the 16mm film to video.
@@delbyoung Hello Derek. By audio, I am doing the voice over in the cooking section. I am also the young, skinny bloke doing the chicken at the BBQ.. Anyway, do have a go at finding the facebook page.

This brings back many memories! This is prior to 1986 I think which is when I started sailing on the schooners. Nice to remember George and David.
Amazing memories of the Schooners! What a wonderful archive.
