  • The holy month of Ramadan is observed by 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, yet the nightly feasts and rituals are deeply personal to each family.
In this video, a Syrian family in Surrey, B.C., prepares to break their fast as the sun goes down with a traditional Ramadan feast, and we learn what celebrating Ramadan in Canada means for Mariam and her mother Enas, refugees from Syria who arrived in Vancouver in 2016.

Want to see the reviews of all the Ifter Buffet of Surrey, BC. It can be a great part of our food tourism too. Ramadan is a great time of the year.

Why are the comments below making such a big deal about all the food in the video? Feasting with family members is just normal and fine as long as you aren't over eating AND feeding the poor too.

I’m not a Muslim but i can understand why one would look at this video of a family together feasting a certain way, ultimately because ramadan has become a ‘festivity’ losing its true meaning, yes there’s nothing wrong with having iftar (breaking fast) with family and friends but it is not all about the food nor family forgive me. Ramadan is for you and Allah I believe. correct me if I am wrong.

A lot of Muslims actually believe having feasts like this is against the spirit of Ramadan.

I thought ramadan was a month of fasting not feasting

Having a variety of dishes at time of breaking the fast is a fallacy and more a cultural thing rather that what Ramadan is supposed to be

Very much unislamic. This food is enough for 25 people not 5 people. I barely eat anything. What my family feed on weekly basis is what's on that table.

    Is this Ramadan and Islam?
There is a lot of food there.
    why do muslims fast
    Why are Arabs like this?
    These are not human acts.

Ramadan is the Islamic month to fast from dawn to dusk.
Most people waste precious month in cooking skills...maybe they cooked for documentary..normally we don't cook much as we don't able to eat much after breaking fast..
Muslims fast as it prescribed to us from God..even scientists today agree whoever fast 14-18 hours their immune system get stronger and low chances to get cancer...even Jesus (pbuh) used to fast for 40 days too...but majority Christian people don't bother to read Bible cover to cover...and dont follow the teaches of Jesus (pbuh) and Bible deeply as we Muslims do...
We Muslims follow what God and Quran says to be better human and for heaven as reward...May God grant us highest level of Heaven..and guide us to stay in right path of Islam...Ammen...
