if ALL users in blender donate at least 1$ dollar a month, blender would be improving like sky rocket! c'mon guys.. donate at least 1$ /month.... is nothing..
Blender already have a tons UI/UX designs and ideas which looks like a joke. And the joke is not even fun. And nothing of this are related to money issue. Until some bib changes would happen in core team, CEO team, i dont really which team exactly, but until they will bring people who really work with DCC and not just coding for fun and test some "genious" ideas - i wouldnt donate even a penny. And no, bring such people to development are not expensive. In fact they would be able to find a lot of professionals from the industry who would be glad to form a view of how things should be done even for free. But they dont want.
@@sounddifferent3752 You made up so many things not based in reality but "....professionals from the industry who would be glad to form a view of how things should be done even for free" isn't even good trolling.
Exactly. I donate monthly! People grumble and groan when you bring it up but people need money to live. Support the Blender foundation and also support artists and add-on devs by buying their products. Every time you support BF by donating or buy someone's add-on/assets a little phong shaded angel gets it's wings!
I donate monthly. Not a high level, but a comfortable one. I get so much professional use - and creative pleasure - out of Blender that I felt guilty not giving back a little.
Yeah, I still get that notification that my few quid has gone through every month and I'm happy enough with that, even if I don't really use Blender all that much these days since I'm a Houdini Boy. But I'm hoping to someday dive back into it more and get a lot out of it. My perfect world would be something like Eevee in Houdini but we can't get what we want :D
I am one of those who benefited from using a blender, thank you to those who bought me a blender. I hope soon I can also buy a blender for others. Best wishes for the blender community and prosperity for blender artists worldwide.
Blender is a gift to the world. Because it is given to us no questions asked, it is the starting point for so many incredible artists to rise. It gives the power of insanely capable 3D to everybody, where such programs would normally be considered extremely expensive pro software you'd only get into, if you are laser focused on the career of a 3D artist. And only a fraction of talented 3D artists have ever made that conscious decision. Many of them wouldn't bless the world with their awesome creations if it wasn't for Blender. And if you take a close look at what Hollywood has become, it would be so sad if that was the only area, where professional 3D artists would gather. I am working hard in Blender to set up first serious media channel soon. Once that starts to generate money, I'll set a percentage of the income to donate to the Foundation.
I think people profiting from Blender should donate, still let's not forget Blender is funded also by some big corps such as Adobe, AMD, Epic, Ubisoft, Nvidia, Intel ,Wolkswagen, BWM, Meta...
Not only that, often you have to turn to addons to get functionality you either need or have gotten used to in other software. Addons, esp the good ones are usually not free, and if you buy on the Blender market a portion of that goes to the Blender foundation.
I've been donating to blender for years, and I will continue to so so for many more. It's great to know that my funding helps ensure people have open access to a cutting edge 3d software package. Happy Blending Folks 🙂
You're right, but I and many others who are interested in making even small stories certainly don't have the money to buy the usual proprietary programs like: Maya, 3dStudio...etc. Furthermore, Blender is an 'all in one' software unlike many of these commercial software, I don't think there are many economical alternatives for hobbyists and small studios !
not only blender need to donate , other open source programs like inkscape and gimp and krita and other Linux distros like MX-linux and most linux distors need donations to be available on the future.
dk, if I ever become a regular sponsor, I would expect them to do certain improvements in different areas of Blender, but 99.99% they likely won`t heed me, and I`d be frustrated. When it`s free, I can`t complain...
Hey, thanks for this misleading title, but hey... maybe you and a lot of ppl miss the point. Blender is not for PAY, Blender is for AWESOMEness. Pay is pay only when you are forced to give money. You are not, so this is no pay request. That is the HUGE difference! Blender is about sharing, and we are supporting Blender because of WILL, not because we are forced to. This core idea makes a huge DIFFERENCE!!!! Blender Development Fund is not a payment for Blender. It is a word from the world, our way of saying thank you. Very needed and very welcome, but never requested! So it is pure good in donation. Freedom, is priceless!

Yes and no. You could have mentioned that they also have big investors like AMD, Nvidia, Steam, Epic, Meta, Intel, Adobe, Ubisoft, Roblox, etc. and Blender says on their website that "Corporate members of the Fund can indicate a preference which projects they like to see supported" and that they sell assets on their market store. They also dont pay much taxes since its a non profit organisation located in the Netherlands, which is the main reason they dont sell but take donations for their product.

The implication that Blender can become un-free is unfortunate and not true. Because the code doesn't have CLA and only exists under an open source license as released by the original investors from the crowdfunding run i think 2004 in which i participated with a large chunk of money. The word crowdfunding hadn't been invented yet. But of course the more money the Foundation has, the better Blender can be developed. Ultimately someone has to contribute something for each development step, either effort or cash.
A colleague of mine makes large use of Blender like me but never thought to donate, which really bothers me mainly bacause he's well paid and donating a couple of bucks a month wouldn't be a problem at all.
