Two Currant Problems | 2 Biggest Pests for Currants

Welcome to another video!
This is a short video highlighting the 2 biggest pests currants suffer from:
- Gooseberry Sawfly (Larvae) aka Nematus ribesii
- Currant Borer aka Currant Clearwing aka Synanthedon tipuliformis
The Gooseberry Sawfly Larvae are easy enough to deal with, I manually remove those in spring. If left unchecked though, will defoliate your currant shrubs!
The Currant Borer is a much bigger problem, as there's no real treatment without pesticides (which I don't like to use), and reduce the vigor drastically in the affected branches. The branch can also snap under heavy rain, wind or snow, which is why when it becomes a big problem, the best option is to give it a restorative prune.
