I live in a barn apartment and the hayloft is above my bedroom and you could hear them chewing on the wood and running around. They only show up every few years though so I really hope it’s working.

I used a wire boxed trap before, tried cheese, peanut butter.. didn’t work. What did work is a piece of slim Jim thru the hook, got one every time!! But now I just mix peanut butter baking soda balls rolled in corn muffin mix. They take it or maybe the squirrels? Hmmm ok less squirrels around to, their all related, sorry squirrel lovers!

So I’ve had success in the past with this method. I’ve had on off issues with rats eating every piece of fruit in my trees. This year I noticed new burrow holes after the snow melt it’s been 2 weeks the rats ignore the mix completely I set up a trail cam so I can actually see these guys foraging around the mix but not taking the mix or even showing interest. Anyone else have rats that got wise to this mix

We bought this place way out in the country it has been abandoned for 3 years. It is infested with rats and mouse for the past three months we have been around. I have spent over $300 in different rat poison. I can put out 25 lb rat poison a day and every bit of it will be gone by morning. So I will try your concoctions it's got to be cheaper than rat poison.
We have a shed that is open.... I have not found the deceased target rodents... but the bait is missing daily. It occurred to me (i'm super smart, for sure!) that all *kinds* of critters could be going into the shed (*duh*). Unless we can shut the shed completely, we will not know for sure if the rats are dead and countryside critters are not coming from miles around just for snacks.
Should be fine with most other critters. Just keep the portion size small though. I answer your questions and also offer solutions and products to repel rodents: ua-cam.com/video/NUuqAmE1NE8/v-deo.html - and Huntavirus by CDC ua-cam.com/video/5hdsjebQzwM/v-deo.html. Thanks so much for watching.
This is crazy you mention the cornbread mix! I have had a few coming in the house because we have an abandoned house next door, so the show up here and there. And i smelled something yesterday, but couldn’t find it. Then I noticed my baking cabinet had been attacked. They are the cornbread mix, and I had some baking powder in a bag next to ot they had chewed on. Found the dead one today, and caught another in the mix last night. So this is def an attractant.
Dang. Some say, wear gloves to set traps and bait. That is a myth and your story proves it showing that those rascals are coming in where your scent is and have a buffett. ua-cam.com/video/mAly4sBM63I/v-deo.htmlsi=lg7OZ8OUXUiP0HYV
Have you ever tried using a 5 gallon bucket half full of water with a layer of sunflower seeds floating on top? If you put a ramp to the bucket, the rodents will climb up and jump right in. I use baking soda and sugar for the ants.
I have for chipmunks. Works great 5 Gal bucket with about 6" of water and just enough seed to cover the top of the water. They really like pumpkin seeds but they are to expansive for me.
Thanks! Would you happen to know of a safe poison for ground hogs ? I'm a city boy that retired to the country and my garden has become a snack stop for them. Frankly I don't want to trap them and shoot them. I tried to lookup if they can vomit, burp or "fizzle " but found no answers. Thanks for your.. or anyone's advice. Seriously, there smarter and more athletic then me! LOL...
I have heard Juicy Fruit Chewing gum or exlax. I have a repellent that works. I explain more here ua-cam.com/video/NUuqAmE1NE8/v-deo.html Also the CDC Hantavirus ua-cam.com/video/5hdsjebQzwM/v-deo.html
In my past experience you can coexist with these guys till they desire what’s in your garden. Try dry ice in the active burrow then cover with a rock or dirt. they will go to sleep peacefully and never wake up.
I’m thinking of trying this for rabbits, skunks and chipmunks, I try my best to keep my stuff sealed so they go somewhere else but my shed must be too comfortable.Maybe I should get rid of the luxurious mattress and stuff.Ive trapped so many skunks and raccoons that when i got tired of traps I used super fly bait and cola. But because, as you say about poison, you need to be cautious about other animals. (Pets) It sure did work tho , once ingested they couldn’t walk more than a few feet from the bowl

beside using little plastic containers, that hold the mix with access holes, are there any other ideas out there to contain the mix? Something smaller to drop in holes?

Thanks for the updates.EDIT: I see you answered that - aaahh. One has died from other reason, smell is so awful! Finding holes is a challenge!
Will this hurt or kill skunks? We have rats in our back shed (our lab puppy goes crazy, sniffing out the rats.) However, my next door neighbours have a skunk family, that comes into our yard and I am fearful of the skunks spraying our boy.

I found the baking soda and cornmeal mix worked a few times but then they got wise. They won't eat it anymore so that tells me it worked. I started mixing just baking soda with grease from broiled hotdogs in the pan. They eat it up! My question to you my friend is, Do you think the baking soda works when dampened by the grease?
Try changing up the mix to muffin or cake mix. I'm still using this blend and it has been working with epic results over the past two years now. Oh, cake mix, cookie mix, other muffin mixes. Be creative. BUT - be sure half of the potion is mix and half is baking soda or sodium bicarbonate. Please keep the portions minimal at no more than 4 tablespoons of each as most fluffy critters may be harmed by ingesting large amounts of the baking soda.
Rats have apparently a digestive tract of about 1 meter (3 ft) which is quite substantial compared to body length... and is it effective to crush one or two paracetamol or aspirin into the mix?
I tried it over a week ago and we had a decent problem. They kept outsmarting me with conventional traps and eluding my small army of cats. Tried the baking soda at it really works!!! I did 4 heaping tablespoons of baking soda, 3 heaping TBSP corn meal and 1 heaping TBSP brown sugar. Mixed it together real well and placed in little jar lids in strategic places. Made sure to eliminate other food sources at night (dog food in bowls, etc). They were tearing up their new treat and didn't even get a bad smell (I guess they went off to their hiding spots away from the house to die). Thanks again!!!

We have fields and our neighbor loves woodpile so there's never a shortage of rodents in the spring. I hate resetting traps because sometimes they get smarter than the traps.

Thanks for the videos. Do you know if this works on voles? I'm sure the concept is the same... I'm just not sure how often, if any, they leave their tunnels and search above ground for food.
Yes it does!

I tried this and now I smell a dead rat/mouse in my home somewhere.
It happens. The good news is, the odor haunts for only ten days.
Does plaster of Paris work? Could you maybe compare? Thanks!!!
Yes, Plaster does work. No, I will not compare as I do not use it. Hazardous to my pets, livestock and beneficial wildlife.
I have heard of poisons that kill the rats and dehydrate them so there is no scent. What do you think can be added to your mix to dehydrate them?
I just put up with the stink for ten days and plug the gaps where they got access. no problems since.

So I’ve had success in the past with this method.
I’ve had on off issues with rats eating every piece of fruit in my trees. This year I noticed new burrow holes after the snow melt it’s been 2 weeks the rats ignore the mix completely
I set up a trail cam so I can actually see these guys foraging around the mix but not taking the mix or even showing interest.

Let us know how it worked out for you. I'm keeping control of the infestation with this stuff.
Have not tried the seeds yet.
I have for chipmunks. Works great 5 Gal bucket with about 6" of water and just enough seed to cover the top of the water. They really like pumpkin seeds but they are to expansive for me.
Thanks 👍🏾

LOL...

Repellents don't work, I trap them with conibear traps. Caught 43 on my property since 2015.
Go for it. I explain more here ua-cam.com/video/NUuqAmE1NE8/v-deo.html

@pine meadows hobby farm about how long does it take for the rodents to die after ingesting? Thanks!
Why put the lid on it when setting it out? Why not set it out without a lid on it?

Would this possibly kill armadillos?
What's an armadillos?
hi,what others food can i use,i mean if i dont want to use cornbread?
Oh, cake mix, cookie mix, other muffin mixes. Be creative. BUT - be sure half of the potion is mix and half is baking soda or sodium bicarbonate. Please keep the portions minimal at no more than 4 tablespoons of each as most fluffy critters may be harmed by ingesting large amounts of the baking soda.
Rats have apparently a digestive tract of about 1 meter (3 ft) which is quite substantial compared to body length... and is it effective to crush one or two paracetamol or aspirin into the mix?
Could add that to the mix, yes.
What is the aspirin or paracetamol for? Deading the pain?
