Why did Coleco do this to Atari...AGAIN?

    Easy answer! Coleco had full rights to the Donkey kong series in 1982. Not only did they make their own ports showcasing the power of the Colecovision, but they rubbed it in their faces by making terrible ports for the 2600 and Intellivision, the 2 rivals at the time.

      not EXACTLY correct - Coleco had rights for consoles, and Atari had rights for computers.... a distinction that led to the history of consoles changing significantly, when Coleco put out a computer called the "Adam". It was capable of running Colecovision carts, and when Atari found out at a trade show, it derailed negotiations between Atari and Nintendo, as Atari was going to license the Famicom for US release, and Atari was FURIOUS that there was "Donkey Kong on a computer not made by us". If not for that, we'd have a VERY different rest of the 80s in North American video gaming...
