I shook Lee Perry's hand. Vicar Street, Dublin, Ireland. I was so proud, I met my hero, and his missus was fucking amazing looking, Weed and E'd out of my head, what a great gig.
Using the phrase "pure class" to describe Lee "Scratch" Perry is a bit of a stretch. This is the same Lee Perry who sold material from Bob Marley's _Burnin'_ to Trojan Records without Marley's permission and kept the proceeds. That's not to say that Perry isn't a legend. Lee Perry's disregard for basic fire safety practices was legendary. His eccentricity was legendary too, even though his peers acknowledged that it was largely an act. It's also impressive that he was able to keep his career going by lending his name to collaborations with others after his creative juices had largely dried up by 1978.
No one really knows? Except the one who tells it? This is straight up why I admire and love the man.... Tells it like it is!! This has Black Ark all up on it. And I too agree it's a Gem. It's well written. I already have my copy on vinyl 7''
I agree comoradh, i heard it was because marley was discovered by lee perry "the upsetter" singing with acoustic guitar and lee produced the reggae, rocksteady, dub pretty much everything. they were also making music with peter tosh, bunny wailer. from what i understand bob went solo "selling out" i s'pose, lee was a true yardie rasta and didnt believe in the extortion of making a lot of money through music. this is a form of babylon to him.
Bob marley agreeing to do a concert were two political leaders from jamaica at the time didnt go down well either i think because (PPP) Marcus Garvey's party were not invited. Marcus Garvey was very popular with the poor community, especially in trench town. i believe thats were the lyric "who sold out marcus" comes from
I think it's more likely to be about Bunny because Bunny was in the same business as other reggae studios, and recorded a lot of reggae artists. But hey, only Scratch really knows, and in any case he left this episode behind him long ago.
It definitely is, and no you'll find it isn't a contradiction in the slightest. You can respect someone and diss them if you have an issue with them over something. Keep being in denial though if it makes you feel better.
"....yardie, yardie, yaardie...." I think the song is a rebuff to Chris Blackwell. The capitalist is the one to "capitalise". Blackwell is a "rolling stone" between England and Jamaica.
This music business is so contradictory. What you think you know don't always go so.The Truth can destroy you.(plummet your sales) Those that depend on record sales can't afford truth and those that come near truth seem to end up with a bullet in the head. Max Romeo & Bunny Wailer did not have white belly's, and Chris "Wite well" was not imitating a Rasta. Think the unthinkable.
My late uncle LACHLAN brought me here HARD TUNEEEEEEE BLESSINGS

He wasn't a racist ❤
He wasn't a racist but a great man. Misunderstood by most, and he didn't give a shit.
@donquixote2u: It was possibly aimed at Bunny Lee or Max Romeo... this song was originally wrote for Max Romeo to sing it.
For sure the AKA challenge for the worlwide Rastafarians bro and LIONS OF JUDAH.

This was about Bob Marley.
+vex08 No way, at all. Perry still respects Gong.
He does but this song was about him.
vex08 No it isn't. And your reply is a contradiction anyway.

This is about Bunny Lee who was a record producer back in the day and tried to stif many an artist financially
Sick
I heard it was against Bob for stealing Lee's band? Who cares? What we have here is a great riddim and a good phrase! "White Belly Rat"!

Can someone write the lyrics of this song? Sorry i'm Italian, don't understand all the words. Ty

È anche positivo che tu non capisca il testo. Vale a dire, gli europei sono insultati come pance di topo bianco.
it was for bob Marley stealing Lee's musicians
Much as I love Bob Marley, it is truth.
★★★★★
It is not that way actually mate, it is dedicated to Bob Marley- white belly rat! Bob’s dad was white!
