  • This is a review of the Hornby R2972 Class 395 Hitachi Javelin Train Pack which is 395003 named as "Sir Steve Redgrave" in this four piece set. The train pack is DCC ready and you will need two DCC decoders as the model has directional lighting. The Hornby Class 395 is very nice for detail and the pantograph on the driving cars is posable and if you have a working cantenary system on your layout, it might be wise to leave them lowered as they are made of resin rather than metal and damage may occur if they are in the raised position on a catenary fitted layout. There is some test running on an oval of track which comes after the review in the video and the motor is very quiet but as its a new train, you will need to give it a "run-in" for the driveline and the gearing to "bed-in".
    Overall Rating: 10/10

Do you know if this is available still or a similar version(detailed-NOT the Blue Rapier set) as I have looked almost everyone and can't find it anywhere!

Great review! Do you have plans for a permanent layout and where would it be based/what mainline is it set on?

Is it true that the front end can be removed to allow two units to work together?

I saw the real one last Thursday, check out my footage of it. Love these units, scored a couple for haulage. They can be coupled together in real life as there are services that do this in peak hours. Wish a real one would be painted in Olympic colours like the Hornby ones!!

For me the pendolino is top but the javelin is a close second detail is fab
Javelin has better detail than the pendolino
