Yeah team korra was weaker, but I don't see why people are mad about it. Like Aang's team was literally made up of child prodigies. Katara and Toph are still considered the best and they are 85 years old. Could anyone that we've seen on the show step up to Aang's crew? Not really. So why be upset they aren't as good? I actually think LOK was much more realistic about power levels than ATLA.
Like…of course actual masters who had years of training like Tenzin, Lin, Kya, and Suyin would be the most powerful benders in the world instead of Mako and Bolin, who were actually above average martial artists but didn’t grow up in the middle of a war like Katara, Toph, and Azula did.

The whole Korra debacle is ridiculous. Like i get that Avatar is a stellar show and exceptations were high for the sequel but nothing justifies the hatred that the atla fanfom has for korra. It's a weird mix of entitlement, immaturity and spite. Like the show is not perfect, but some people seem incapable of giving it any credit at all, simply because it deviates from what they think atla was.
They actually explore some really interesting themes, and the way they expand on the Avatar universe is very well-handled. It honestly could have been way worse. With korra, you get a more mature setting, and shit can get quite intense.
Like I said, I understand having problems with the show. I do have criticism of it, mostly from a writing and pacing point of view. But it's isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. There was so much vitriol for this sequel that i avoided it for the longest time. I grew up on atla, it is one of my all time favorite shows, so i was afraid korra would ruin it. BRUH ive always loved and resonated with korra so much because she is such a mature avatar with real flaws that she has to learn to overcome and grow from. the show and so many people give her shit for the consequences of her flaws but i honestly thought that was the best part of her because you got to see her development to her final, matured form. the end of season broke me (it was the best season tho) and season four utterly destroyed me and made me feel great at the same time, particularly because i was going thru something similar and watching korra overcome her adversities empowered me to do the same. the score for to heal still makes me sob. but anyways, the villains in that show were so nuanced and it added a layer of brilliance to everything because they weren’t fighting for bad causes, it was just the manner they went about it, the extremism that showed that “evil” isn’t black or white; it can grow and corrupt even the most noble of us.

The show was rushed and was under the threat of cancellation all the time lmao, they had to work with what they got. But I disagree in the sense of a "need" for character development. Now, would have it been good for some of the characters be further fleshed out? Absolutely. But like, some of them didn't necessarily have a flaw to overcome, at least, not one that would be important to the plot (not at the grand scheme of things at least). Let's take Bolin for example. What does he have to overcome for the audience? His childish behavior? not really a flaw. They could have, however (and that's a big issue with me lmao) fleshed out more his relationship with Mako. (I have a whole emotional scene in my head that I just say it's canon lmao). My point is, since the show is about Korra's journey, and how she perceives her identity, the other character get the chance to also simply live their lives, and make mistakes, and fix it up. My one comment I always like to give when someone finishes Korra is answering the question: Why didn’t Korra and Asami kiss?
First, we have to remember the time. The last episode aired in 2014. Gay marriage wasn’t even legal in the US until the next year, 2015. At the time, the creators Bryan and Mike (referred to as ‘Bryke’ from here on) were receiving cancellation threats over minute things, much less showing K&A kissing on screen. Their relationship was a natural progression that had not been planned, but Bryke couldn’t see any other ending for K&A. Yet, they were receiving immense pressure to not have them end up together. They had to be subtle, as did many on screen queer relationships at the time and before. This meant they had to be smart about it, which leads me to…
Second, Bryke directly mirrored the end of ATLA to leave no doubt in viewers’ minds. The music (Avatar’s Love), the holding hands, the turning towards each other. The only thing missing is a kiss! It was a way for K&A to establish a relationship without Nickelodeon outright forbidding a relationship.
Third, the progress we’ve made since the airing of this last episode shouldn’t be held against it. It was the first canon relationship of two women in children’s cartoons. The reason we have the wlw relationships we do now is because Korrasami and Bryke set a precedent.
Fourth, technically, it was a first date! I always like people to ponder: would you kiss someone at the start of a first date? I’m a lesbian and while my fiancée and I basically UHAUL’d, we still didn’t kiss when she picked me up for our first date. I recommend reading the comics to see K&A’s relationship (and kisses) be shown on paper!
I know it’s a lot to read, but I hope you do! It is a product of its time in terms of LGBTQ+ representation.

    • @carmcam1
      @carmcam1 2 роки тому +1

the argument about "it come out of nowhere" baffles me but also quite understandable, as a lesbian, i understand that wlw romance is not a typical i flirt with you immediately kind of thing, it usualy starts with being friends, knowing each other, and by the start of season 4 korra only wrote to asami, that means something already in my perspective as a lesbian. But in het perspective, i kinda understand they are not seeing it that way because they are so used to immediate courtship. And also, it is a start of a romance, not the climax of it, in the comics after TLOK, they are still working on the relationship.

yeah it was 2014, the 4th season was airing really late at night and then the show was put out of tv for it last like 4? and exclusively on nicks site, and they censured a korrasami, so yeah it was the most they could do, make them hold hands and like one hour later release statement saying they're together
and it sucks, But, it is because of korrasami that we get to be where we're now in regards to representation specially in kids media, korrasami had to crawl so shows like the owl house could fly
(and also because u don't know, and a lot of people new to korra also don't, they had lot of interference and struggled with the show because of nick, they had they bugged cut, they thought s2 was their last season and then got renewed to 3 and then 4, yeah, it was a whole mess unfortunately, but hey at least there's the comics and they got to explore more the aftermath of Kuvira attack and korra and asami's relationship)

Korra is a controversial subject because it's a sequel to an original series that was rightfully praised as one of the best US animated series of a generation at the time. The comparisons are what killed the general opinion of Korra.
That being said, the storylines in Korra were all over the place, some were excellently told and stuck the landing, while other arcs completely fell flat. In one episode I'd be completely immersed and invested in what's happening, and the next episode I'm abruptly taken out of that immersion by some BS decision or lines said by the characters. Korra was victim to a common trope in most series; characters doing stupid things for the sake of moving the plot forward, setting up the next scene. Original ATLA had no stupid moments, every decision and every line made sense, it followed logical reasoning.

Toph being a cop was actually prettty straight forward if you read the original series comics her basiclly going form a vigilante to a official town sheriff/ hero within the origin of republic city

If Aang was in Korra position as Avatar he would of died if you look at all the villains Korra had vs Aang who basically only had Ozai as his main villain you see that Korra is a better avatar because of what she has gone through she restored the Air nation and basically embraced her role of Avatar when she was much younger while Aang ran away from his causing the Fire nation to take over the world
