Poor goldfish. Cement has a ph upwards of 14, goldfish around 7. I can feel their eyes, skin and fins burning off from here.
Maybe the guy didn't know this, it's easy to overlook. For anyone else who wants to do this, use a liner or simply put water in there without the fish (and change it daily) until the ph settles down to at least around 8. To speed up the process use a vinegar water solution. This can take several weeks for water only, or maybe just a week with addition of vinegar.

@@001-q1s Either do what I suggested and get a ph kit to measure when the ph of the water begins go to down, or seal what comes into contact with the water with some epoxy and let cure before filling with water. Then there's always a pond liner.
You could also just build something out of wood, but if not there are people who have just filled up old boats or used horse watering containers and built up stone, cement and or gardens around those. Kiddie pools and old bathtubs are also great ideas. Good luck!!

It's pretty, but I wouldn't have used foam underneath because it's gonna crack, and after all that work. Also the pH of the concrete will kill or hurt the fish. If you're gonna do this use a pond liner. Great design though.

Agreed. Chemicals leach from cement and kill the fish. The design is CV ool, but SEAL IT COMPLETELY.

Just in case no one here has ever worked with cinder blocks concrete and bricks I would never make any foundation out of Styrofoam that is a most craziest shit I have ever seen in my life styrofoam overtime degrades that means your foundation will crack under the pressure when that styrofoam loses its shape and for whoever bought that aquarium they should tell them they want their money

I opened this video precisely because of that detail. I was thinking on using styrofoam to make a design in my wall, just letters.
I was planning on sticking the Styrofoam letters on the wall and then covering them with cement. To later paint them so it would be an ornament. Would it collapse? It would have nothing on top to put pressure on it.

@@MillieLilth it would not collapse but over time the styrofoam will degrade and you will have cracks in your letter when the styrofoam shrinks and degrades

@@MillieLilth I would use sheet metal cut outs that are in 3d shapes if you want your project to last a very long time then all you have to do is just paint the letters

Haveing kept fish, both tropical & cold fresh water. One thing he forgot to do was to rinse out the pool a few times, to let the lime, in the cement, leach out, before it kills his fish & any plants he puts in. The lime is very Alkaline - if you know which acid neutralises it, use in moderation, with litmis paper to let yo know the waters neutral pH.

It needed a more stable base, the Styrofoam will degrade and all that work will be lost. He should have used a liner bc the concrete will permeate and kill the fish. It also needs natural substrate in thr bottom and vegetation. Lastly, the paint job is hideous. Oh and the exterior layer of bricks for the plant bed never got finished. Plus this was definetly a 2 day project with dry time. All around, this is trash and doesn't deserve the views it has. I hate UA-cam for the video it takes me too and end up being a waste of time.

Well executed. Wondering if pond was flushed before the fish were put in, as the cement, leaches lime, which is Alkaline & not particularly good for aquatic life - nor is over acidic water.

Any pond that's got cement, will leach lime, this will make the water poison to plants & fish, unless it's rinsed out, and painted with a silicon based paint. The paint seals off further leakage of lime, & also seals micro cracks.
Hopefully you now understand, if not, try drinking lime rich water - it's not a nice drink with lime in it, same with lead - ask the people of Flint, Michigan, about that, and the folks in the Apalanchine mountains, whose water supplys have been poisoned by mining companys & No Help from Any form of Government, to amollerate the situations.

Those fish are probably thinking there's nowhere to go and it's noisy as hell in here.
Unless the water was already at the correct temperature, those fish are now dead.

You probably need to adjust the pH - they make kits for that. Cement is very alkaline and when it's fresh, leaches. And then add a few more places for them to hide - plants, maybe?
