btw going from 30 second cooldowns to 20 is really good for midlaners if you proc it on your lane opponent and then roam to dive a sidelane. would probably be up in time in 20 seconds and might not be if the cooldown were still 30.
I've been messing around with Unending Despair in practice tool, some discoveries for those curious: The item stops proccing once you're out of combat for 5 seconds. Since full stacks of Ingenious Hunter get it below that 5 seconds, it becomes self sustaining. The drain counts as an ability, so it procs Cosmic Drive and Liandry's (the two item combo of Unending Despair and Liandry's is self sustaining without any item haste since Liandry's keeps you in combat for 3 seconds, keeping you below that 5 second threshold at the base 7 second cooldown). Riftmaker and Liandry's bonus damage also scale the damage and healing of the drain at the same ratio (healing increases by 250% of damage). Shojin doesn't work since it specifies "spell" damage as opposed to "ability" damage and Unending Despair does not count as a spell. As always, thanks for the video Nidhogg.
I've been using Ingenious a lot more ever since I started watching you play Fimbulwinter J4, but you're right, it's even better this season. Neat observation with the Luden's interaction.
Would be awesome but i can also see it somehow breaking the game because of riot's spaghetti code. It would probably make it so some items just kept getting lower and lower cooldowns every time you bought and sold something with item haste or something weird like that.

Also insane with the Sylas Lich Bane Stormsurge combo. Sylas w/ Pred + Stormsurge + Lich Bane + Magic Pen boots: 200 base AP 100-250 + 30% AP base magic damage from Squall 100% and 50% AP damage boost to passive hit from Lich Bane 15 Ability Haste 28 Magic Penetration 45 base movement speed + 13% from stats + extra minimum 50% from Pred + Squall activation + Item Haste from Ingenious Hunter basically synergizing with like... all of the first four items that you'll most commonly build, which are Stormsurge, Lichbane, Zhonya's and the Pred boot's active. To be fair, this rune was always rather very useful imo. Many active items before the new season could charge really fast and made it hell for those champs that hate poke or have to burst but you got a shield or zhonyas. I love that rune, even if costs me Ultimate cooldown it makes up for it now or even before.
I didn't know Ingenious hunter worked with unending despair because the item doesn't explicitly say the passive's cooldown in parenthesis like every other item cooldown. Its a pretty insane passive to be buffable by item haste. The healing can also proc in stasis for some funny stalling tech but stopwatch is so much more expensive now so it's pretty impractical.
I have been a long time fan of Ingenious hunter. Back when Frostfire was around, I hated how long the CD was for the proc; experimented with this rune, and I never looked back. Truly the most underrated rune in the game.
Rek'Sai. She uses sheen, Eclipse, Titanic, Sundering Sky, and she can build unending despair. She has perfectly synergy with this, I imagine other champs could do the same too
Shield Sion support build with Sterak's gage rush + ingenious hunter was pretty good. The shield stuff was mainly Guardian, revitalize, ingenious hunter, barrier summoner spell, Sion's W. Sterak's gage + spirit visage was already over 1500 shield every about 40 seconds. Shield bash is pretty good with this.
yep I've been using this on ahri. easy to stack with roams and then I build ludens (2s recharge instead of 3s), lich bane (1s cd instead of 1.5s) and cryptbloom (40s cd instead of 60), with the option of taking zhonyas or banshees as well of course
I've been messing with ingenious alot ever since I learned about how it works with spellblade a season or two ago. This season it's definitely one of the runes that gained an absurd amount of power. I definitely wasn't expecting Unending despair to be a cooldown rather than a flat 7 second
What’s great on Jarvan, in regards to this rune and Fimbul, is that it allows you to guarantee the item proc off of your W throughout an extended fight -within certain haste thresholds. Allows us non-challenger players to direct our limited bandwidth to other areas of the fight, such as smiting too early😂 We’ve seen you preach this rune for a while, cool to see it getting more acknowledgement with league players.
I don't really use Domination tree as much, because other than those specific runes it doesn't really have anything useful. They hard nerfed Zombie Ward, Omnivamp healing rune is gone and the rest are pretty much useless other Ingenious Hunter and Ultimate Hunter. Other trees have more consintent Keystones than what Domination has. Electrocute too much cooldown, Dark Harvest needs a lot of time to stack, Predator and Hail of Blades are very niche champions. It can still work well on Assassins but you could other trees like First Stike which gives more damage and gives gold at the end🤔🤔🤔
interesting take, i can see it though, definitely giving it a try (also sounds incredibly strong in aram) surprised to see praise on unending despair, i've tried using it a few times now but the healing is awful, ended a 44 minute malphite game with 1k healing on it total because of permanent healing reduction and it generally only proccing on one person (7 seconds is a long time to wait)
defo sounds strong as hell on sion, should give that a try as well looking back at the game, it was jhin janna zed so i wasn't really sticking to people anyway
It works really well for supps that builds Umbral Glaive. It allows for changing the red trinket for a blue trinket once you have UG while still having perma unwarding access. I did it for the whole previous season and constantly had insane vision score
After being inspired by this I did a Eclipse, Sundered Sky, Unending despair Aatrox build with ingenious and I have to say it is so broken. You just get random fucking heals everywhere and if more than 2 people are next to you you are functionally immortal while in R. The unending despair heal also gets buffed by Aatrox R's self healing and you just get 400-500 heals randomly in fights.
apparently sudden impact has keystone levels of effectiveness on certain champs early with lethality changes, very interested in seeing how this would work with it. ty king nidhogg for the ingenious huntre technology
@@وزارةمكافحةشحاذيناللايكاتوتباد 9 lethality can EASILY make or break an assassin’s all in combo since every single instance of damage is calculated separately and assassins use multiple sources of damage, not just a single ability. For compiration; Brutaliser gives you 8 lethality. And Serrated Dirk gives you 10. Both of them give you the same AD as Caulfield’s Warhammer but both of them feel way more impactful on an assassin, damage wise. All thanks to the lethality.
I've been using it a lot last season, because it speeds up Luden's Echo procs. Pair it with the Support rune that also gives item haste, and you could get 6 second Ludens cooldown.
Hmm with ludens, cryptbloom, stormsurge and some zhonya/banshee, might be worth on mages, on support too since it works on wards and they might use a lot of items with cd. Others tho... I dont think there are many tanks that prefer domination tree, bruisers usually go for precision/resolve combination but honestly I can see some of them working well with this and sudden impact like Irelia or Riven. Assassins I think prefer ultimate and relentless hunter over ingenious because some of them highly depend on their ult or they simply want more movement speed for better map pressence and roams
I've been using ingenious hunter even before season 14. Zoe with Crown + Lich bane was an annoying build before. Now I can go Ludens + Stormsurge + Protobelt. Don't need to hit a bubble when you can just kill someone with one Q
Seems pretty good for Pantheon. Normally you would go sorcery for ah and scorch but instead you can go for sudden impact and hunter to get sundered sky and eclipse down to 4 seconds. Getting stacks won't be an issue even if you're playing top due to your ult.
I always pick this rune when I plan to build GA in ADCs the reduction in CD is pretty massive. Might pick for experimental hexplate, unending despair and ludens(ludens might be the main one with a poke champ)
I go to the inspiration page with the item and summoner minor rune and second page ingenious hunter. I play it on maoki with fimbul winter and heartsteel it gets fimbul down to a 4.5-second cooldown. You just live forever because of your passive. It's a shame it isn't on any other rune page. That way, bruisers can actually utilise it better than any champion class that wants to take the domination rune page
You forgot spellblade. It's very useful on some champs that have skills shorter than 1.5 s, like for example Yasuo and Yone(at 111.11% attack speed), Ezreal(hitting qs), Hecarim(3 stacks q), Draven (w spam). In those champs it might not justified going Ingenous hunter just for the faster spellblade proc, but if combined with other items, say Eclipse, Hydra, Sundered, it is much more noticable, and might even worth investing into domination tree.
nah it just isnt the most applicable alongside tear - they're things that you probably shouldnt actively play towards other than in super niche cases. again, i chose not to cover literally every single option. it baits out comments on the ones i missed too like this for free engagement.
as an aram one trick this rune is a always on my buildl; tanks, support, assassin, adr, especially mages. Anything and everything has cooldown now and with it you basically have double the spells and passive.
I've been using it the season before because I loved predator(even after it got gutted) and basicly played a full item active build. Also noteworthy the new support items all have quite interesting passives.
Don't know why but this video JUST popped in my feed. I've been playing Zyra jungle Luden's rush with ingenious hunter and cosmic insight. The plants proc Luden's every second auto pretty consistently at one stack, so I believe that it's the most efficiently application of the item+rune synergy among all possible champions for single target damage. However I suck at Zyra and jungling, so would love to see how you would play this.
Time to start using this on lillia. Treasure hunter is pretty good depending on how fast you want to play but if you feel the need to run zhonyas especially for more than one enemy champ, that can be fantastic. Plus extra wards is always nice. Pair this with cosmic insight and you will be having flash zhonyas super often over everyone else!
I've already been abusing this with certain builds last season. Like jhin with that crit dash item Or fimbulwinter Sorry i forget the names Zhonyia is also super good with this rune, on Swain it's mandatory rune, makes cooldown low enough to have zhonyia always up with your ultimate. It also worked with echo luden And yeah eclispe shield and proc more often is huge
I really like it with Briar and Nocturne. Yomuu, maw, GA and sweeping wards constantly. I feel like I always got these items up on a jungler. Since you also go Summoners insight rune I always got these items up and the map is prettt dark for the enemy.
I think this rune is really broken on Briar right now: Hail of Blades Titanic Hydra Sundered Sky (+50% healing) Unending Despair (+50% healing) Sterak's Gage or Hexdrinker Eclipse is also good because her passive will always make the first aa to apply and it's cheap. Heartsteel will make the sterak's bigger
the thing is, even though its a really good rune, extremely underrated most of the champs i play on which i run domination tend to prefer a different hunter rune over it, take morgana? youd almost always wanna run ult hunter especially with malignance, velkussy heavily appreciates the relentless hunter rune since he's so weak mobility wise and so on and so forth, even camille support hail of blades #keria prefers gold hunter since despite working in the role still needs the extra gold to keep up the pace... idk its a really good rune i just feel its less warranted on a lot of champs in comparison to the other hunters, not saying it doesnt have its uses, fimbul j4 is fun but still... might've been nice personally on everfrost ahri or on funny everfrost diana support/old ap gnar but alas my favourite item is gone and glp isnt back either :(
Could be tech on some tanks, but toplane you really dont wanna go domination tree secondary really on any tank I can think of, inspiration or sorcery kinda just always works and is probably better alot of the time. Maybe on a resourceless/low mana cost toplane champ?
i have been abusing that on Renata Glasc with 3 actives, redemption, shurelya's and locket, it really makes a difference, but i didn't know it worked with the new tank item that drains enemies, gotta give it a try, thanks!
I know you said ADCs won't find much use for it, but I actually really like Enginiest Hunter on Ezreal. He tends to end up with just a little too much CDR, so his Q can fire again before Spellblade can hit again, and Ezreal can actually make some pretty good use out of Eclipse as well.
I wounder if it also reduces things like Oppurtunity recharge and if so it could be rely good on blue kayn since he can go in, do his dmg. Dip back out and fly around for 5 seconds for his passive to come back up and for opportunity to recharge since it could go from 8s to like 5.66s if thats how it works and then go back in again.
When i play support i love pairing up ingenious hunter and ghost poro, its just useful to scale early, and also for when you upgrade to scanner after getting your ward quest
Been playing Tresh and zilean with ingenious, its rly insane on almost if not all the support starting items, and then build stuff like redemption and locket
the thing is not all items have CD so ingenious hunter is kinda hit or miss, a lot of items that do have it affected don't really need the extra CD either, sterakk don't really need it, BoRk also don't need it, GA and zhonya on the other hand is are both pretty strong, you would need a champion that does use a good number of ingenious hunter items to be an ok rune otherwise it will be a ward CD rune most of the time
Ingenious Hunter + Zombie Ward and maybe cosmic insight is god tier to dominate vision with Umbral Glaive, besides it makes it into a gold generating build
doesn't it help with lich bane as well? I've heard of people using this rune with a lich/luden build and getting a lot of value. And the benefits would only increase with more items like crypt/zhonyas.
i was playing on my smurf yesterday and just thinking about running that on a bruiser. Sundered sky passive + titanic hydra active CDs at full stacks is insane. Didnt get to build eclipse but that thing also sounds disgustingly strong on Bruisers with heavy AD ratios like Wukong, Lee Sin, Xin zhao
Erick your builds make this game fun and creative again, always been a fan of your approach to getting in the nitty-gritty of item/champion/rune synergies.
I've been playing Skarner with Iceborn, Fimbul, Sundered, Unending Despair, and Eclipse - on top of shield bash. Skarner is one of the best Sheen users and can spam proc the iceborn slow + fimbul shield combo. Full 5 items with cd's and ingenious feels awesome in teamfights. Not that this means much considering the Skarner rework coming soon.

Allows us non-challenger players to direct our limited bandwidth to other areas of the fight, such as smiting too early😂
We’ve seen you preach this rune for a while, cool to see it getting more acknowledgement with league players.
If I'm not mistaken you can stack tear faster with the help of ingenious hunter.
Also, having Sheen on a 1 second cd sounds good, too.
Correct I was just too lazy to do every item
This rune was ridiculous on Lee Sin when goredrinker was still a thing, it also reduce ward cooldown to allow frequent W-ward dashing
interesting take, i can see it though, definitely giving it a try (also sounds incredibly strong in aram)
surprised to see praise on unending despair, i've tried using it a few times now but the healing is awful, ended a 44 minute malphite game with 1k healing on it total because of permanent healing reduction and it generally only proccing on one person (7 seconds is a long time to wait)
Unending despair is absolutely bonkers on big hp stackers, played sion with it and was fucking amazing
proc it on multiple people
defo sounds strong as hell on sion, should give that a try as well
looking back at the game, it was jhin janna zed so i wasn't really sticking to people anyway
It works really well for supps that builds Umbral Glaive. It allows for changing the red trinket for a blue trinket once you have UG while still having perma unwarding access. I did it for the whole previous season and constantly had insane vision score
pyke with umbral glaive then youmuus then edge of night goes hard
@@MrDraco981 Nah, chads plays Senna.
After being inspired by this I did a Eclipse, Sundered Sky, Unending despair Aatrox build with ingenious and I have to say it is so broken. You just get random fucking heals everywhere and if more than 2 people are next to you you are functionally immortal while in R. The unending despair heal also gets buffed by Aatrox R's self healing and you just get 400-500 heals randomly in fights.
apparently sudden impact has keystone levels of effectiveness on certain champs early with lethality changes, very interested in seeing how this would work with it. ty king nidhogg for the ingenious huntre technology
would that make a difference in 1v1 for example ?
Assassins I think prefer ultimate and relentless hunter over ingenious because some of them highly depend on their ult or they simply want more movement speed for better map pressence and roams
its called ingenious hunter because its a rune for jgs/hunters. I use it for edge of night and ghostblade, then its speed ganks all day.
That way, bruisers can actually utilise it better than any champion class that wants to take the domination rune page
mad content lately erick much love bruh
Ingenious hunter with support items is like having a fifth ability.
I've been rocking sundered sky, fimbulwinter and unending despair ingenious hunter poppy since start of season, feels sooo good
as an aram one trick this rune is a always on my buildl; tanks, support, assassin, adr, especially mages.
However I suck at Zyra and jungling, so would love to see how you would play this.
true
Time to start using this on lillia. Treasure hunter is pretty good depending on how fast you want to play but if you feel the need to run zhonyas especially for more than one enemy champ, that can be fantastic. Plus extra wards is always nice.
Pair this with cosmic insight and you will be having flash zhonyas super often over everyone else!
I've already been abusing this with certain builds last season.
Like jhin with that crit dash item
Or fimbulwinter
Sorry i forget the names
Zhonyia is also super good with this rune, on Swain it's mandatory rune, makes cooldown low enough to have zhonyia always up with your ultimate.
It also worked with echo luden
And yeah eclispe shield and proc more often is huge
I really like it with Briar and Nocturne.
Yomuu, maw, GA and sweeping wards constantly. I feel like I always got these items up on a jungler. Since you also go Summoners insight rune I always got these items up and the map is prettt dark for the enemy.
3:18 lmao
also +10 item haste in inspiration tree for a little more sauce is it worth it prob not but its fun
I can think of a few support which would benefit from this greatly. Now to fit domination as secondary runes on a sup build…
May this video get no views so no one finds out about this rune. But please bless the rest of nidhogg's videos because hes amazing. Amen 🙏
Does this work with items that have a small "cd" between activations? Stuff like Malignance for example
heard someone call this "indigenous hunter" the other day and I was just speechless. Thank you for educating the community.
yo after joining the internet like this ive come to realize we have fucking terrible public school education + parents that dont care
I think this rune is really broken on Briar right now:
Hail of Blades
Titanic Hydra
Sundered Sky (+50% healing)
Unending Despair (+50% healing)
Sterak's Gage or Hexdrinker
Eclipse is also good because her passive will always make the first aa to apply and it's cheap.
Heartsteel will make the sterak's bigger
Been using Ingenious hunter for a year and a half, it's the most sleeper rune out there. Kinda glad most people haven't caught on to how good it is.
yep there’s been so many builds to try with ingenious especially as support. Includes things like mandate and sleigh for trundle support 😎
Let's not forget it also lets you stack tear faster; it's noticeable with 0 stacks.
If it somehow worked with RoA this rune would get gutted.
Your educational content is so good. To the point, interesting and even hought-provoking
the thing is, even though its a really good rune, extremely underrated most of the champs i play on which i run domination tend to prefer a different hunter rune over it, take morgana? youd almost always wanna run ult hunter especially with malignance, velkussy heavily appreciates the relentless hunter rune since he's so weak mobility wise and so on and so forth, even camille support hail of blades #keria prefers gold hunter since despite working in the role still needs the extra gold to keep up the pace... idk its a really good rune i just feel its less warranted on a lot of champs in comparison to the other hunters, not saying it doesnt have its uses, fimbul j4 is fun but still... might've been nice personally on everfrost ahri or on funny everfrost diana support/old ap gnar but alas my favourite item is gone and glp isnt back either :(
the Josh Hutcherson image on the 4.69 cooldown got me
Glad you talked about it, surprised you didn't mention combining it with cosmic insight
33% to 37.5% isn’t much so unless you’re not forcing both trees you don’t want to be taking it
bro you seduced the algorithm with this one, not even clickbait, do you intend to keep this style? I enjoy it
Could be tech on some tanks, but toplane you really dont wanna go domination tree secondary really on any tank I can think of, inspiration or sorcery kinda just always works and is probably better alot of the time.
He tends to end up with just a little too much CDR, so his Q can fire again before Spellblade can hit again, and Ezreal can actually make some pretty good use out of Eclipse as well.
yeah but cosmic insight does it already
I wounder if it also reduces things like Oppurtunity recharge and if so it could be rely good on blue kayn since he can go in, do his dmg. Dip back out and fly around for 5 seconds for his passive to come back up and for opportunity to recharge since it could go from 8s to like 5.66s if thats how it works and then go back in again.
When i play support i love pairing up ingenious hunter and ghost poro, its just useful to scale early, and also for when you upgrade to scanner after getting your ward quest
I've been using it on Pyke for years now. Umbral and trinket cooldown lets me clear all wards in existence
Been playing Tresh and zilean with ingenious, its rly insane on almost if not all the support starting items, and then build stuff like redemption and locket
the thing is not all items have CD so ingenious hunter is kinda hit or miss, a lot of items that do have it affected don't really need the extra CD either, sterakk don't really need it, BoRk also don't need it, GA and zhonya on the other hand is are both pretty strong, you would need a champion that does use a good number of ingenious hunter items to be an ok rune otherwise it will be a ward CD rune most of the time
is this vid a foreshadow for full shield jarvan? eclipse sterak fimbulwinter kaenic locket
For the last one it is worth noting that it also works with Fiddle's effigies which has always been "broken" and worth more than ulti cdr imo
I played a game of Heartsteel + Sundered Sky on Mundo jungle with ingenious and it was very good, I got Unending Despair in late game too.
so how far are you able to push this? is there some actual viability to utility bruisers with eclipse fimbul locket stride? (trundle jarvan?)
I haven't tried this, but does sunfire also proc faster? Or is it not an "active"
This is some clean editing Erick
I wanna try this at some point but going domination on viktor(my main) feels sooooooo shit. And going resolve on some matchups is a must.
It's also useful for sheen in some cases, for example for proccing sheen every yasuo/yone q
What about combining Ingenious with items that deal damage per second? This includes sunfire, hollow radiance, and Liandry's.
Doesn’t increase tick rate from what I can tell
fully stacked ingenious hunter, and cosmic insight, makes sheen (and other items that build with it half a second cd
will probs pick this up for Renata as its pretty good going Solstice Sleigh -> Locket -> Redemption
Ingenious and hubris stacks would be a cool interaction
I used to use full item cdr builds last season and with ghost poro you can have an area perma warded
Love the educational professor niddhog vibes! Great vid
With the remove of ability haste on most ad assassin items i think this will be the best for Champs like Qiyana.
i was literally thinking of exactly this rune being op yesterday ty for all cd breakdowns
Loved this video! BTW does anyone knows if ingenious makes statikk or storm razor charge faster?
Does it work on Mandate cooldown per target?
haha that meme at 3:18 xDD
i did not get josh hutcherson whistled rn right
