I just picked up a 3 speed yesterday with the sifter dismantled in a box. This video is a big help. Would have figured it out otherwise, but nice to see such a good example.
Hurst shifters last about 3 years. They wear quickly as lubrication points are exposed and wash away. Got a 69 c-10 and i'm desperate to find an alternative. If got a tote full of old Hurst parts. If doing an aftermarket installment, you will need decent weekend mechanical skills.
They sell on eBay everyday. Not exactly cheap anymore but very available, maybe shop around and you can find something cheaper. Lots for around $150 still new in the box
Thank u so much for posting. I have 1964 c20 with same Muncie 3 speed with short tail as in your vid. I just finnished rebuilding it and ready for install. I am leaning towards using floor shifter too.....
I have the same transmission with a long tail. Some people say it’s Muncie, some say Saginaw. Is it synchronized? Having a lot of trouble finding confirmed info on it.
Great video. I have a 64 C10 that is getting stuck in first and once I get it back to my house I cam going to be able to get it adjusted or repaired based on your video. I'm pretty sure the unit on it now is the same as this old mister gasket kit. I'd buy another one and start over new but it looks like it has either been discontinued or just out of stock because it's probably all made in china now and shortages. if that is the case I'll adjust what I got and fix and replace it. The washers and cotter pins are to adjust slop in between the rods and brackets and I think the kit has changed a little over the years. I seem to recall having installed the very same unit back in 1988 in my old 68 Bronco and I'm getting too old to recall the differences but I think it came with washers and kotter pins so probably just some minor updates over the years.
@@shortcutgarage yeah I am pretty sure a rebuild or adjustment of mine is going to be cheaper and effective. If something is worn too much I will figure it out. I'm a better fabricator than I was back in 88, lol.
Can you Help? With my car off my kid pushed shifter into neutral and didn't use the clutch. So now it's stuck in gear. Any idea how to fix this? 3spd ford
This is how you adjust a column shifter, likely it’s jammed, just free it up and adjust. Ford is very similar. Three in the Tree linkage adjustment! Get rid of the slop, the jamming, the terrible neutral feel!! ua-cam.com/video/sjDc51yd5Nk/v-deo.html
can i swap the imput and output shaft & tail housing to making it a car unit? I bought a trans, was told it was a car unit. Pulled mine out and its about 6" shorter than the unit i bought lol
If you’re going to go through all that work why not just swap It out for an S10 5 speed? Not too expensive, swap out the input shaft and reuse your bellhousing, clutch, pressure plate, fork etc. I have a couple of videos on that worth checking out. As far as swapping input, output and tail shaft on the 3 speed I’m Not 100% sure but I’m sure the info is out there. Try the stovebolt forums, those fellas will know better and good luck to you.
@shortcutgarage unfortunately I'm already t5 money into this project with buying a floor shifter kit and the 3 speed itself, so I'm going to attempt to make this work, only one way to find out I guess haha worst-case I'll start hunting a t5 down,
@@shortcutgarage change of plans I’m going with a 4 speed. Should have it in before the end on January. Thanks for the reply. Good to know if I keep the 3 speed for another project
Thanks for posting this. Installing a 3 speed floor shifter looks a lot less intimidating this way. I feel like this is a no brainer upgrade when a clutch needs to be changed since the tranny is already out this makes it so much easier. You might want to invest in a better mic for future videos tho. Not a big deal 👍
Thanks, I hope someone finds it helpful, I did order in a mic, this was shot on my phone and the heater kicked on, gets me every time lol. I Appreciate the feedback!
That kit u got on that Saginaw 3 speed trans where u get that I got the same in my 62 Impala I converted it from colum to floor it's the 341 Saginaw I need that kit to make this work on this car
I see them on eBay from time to time. I bought mine new for $10 on clearance from a local speed shop. They had pallets of them. None left now. EBay is the only place I see them today. I have a used one kicking around the garage, I’ll be posting it up soon, I’m going to redo this video without the heater kicking on lol. May be available after that. So hang tight, I might have it up next week so you can have a good look at it.
Hello sir great video, I noticed that you mentioned you bought 2 shifter kits and was wondering if you still have the extra one ? If so I would be interested in buying it for my 65 c10 Thanks

Where can I find a kit like this? My grandfather is having me help him come up with some sort of shifter for a Muncie SM318 (9.25" tail) he has in a '58 Impala but Hurst doesn't seem to have any options for this application.
Do you still have the set u did not use? N can I ask what I paided for it, I have been looking someone to do the basics, cause in a Chevy it's the first time 👍, thanks for taking the time to do this for the old timers looking to just pidle around 👍✌️

HI: Nice to see an old Chevy "Grind box," I have driven those many miles!

Want to say thank you. Your video really did help me . I’m working on my granddads old 64 c10 . I got it after he pass away.
Glad to hear!! That’s awesome! Would love to see it!

I guess it’s dependant on how much use it sees but yes, three years isn’t out of the question if you daily it

For a floor shifter just adjust the linkage as shown in the video, you’ll have to unjam it first at the fork end (opposite shifter side)
This is how you adjust a column shifter, likely it’s jammed, just free it up and adjust. Ford is very similar.

If the speedo cable is going to rub, just put some shallow bends in the two rods.
