I’m not much of an SUV or crossover fan, but even I have to admit the Stelvio & GV70 are great looking vehicles, both inside & out. But looks wise I would choose the Alfa Romeo. That Italian sexiness!

Has a more sportier feel than a GV70 which Is important to me. You your looking for a more luxurious ride than get the GV70. If your looking for a more sportier ride get a Stelvio....
Much nicer car in other colours. I don't like dark grey with black wheels. For the rest great car, one of the only SUV you can drive like a sports car!

I just got home with a brand new velocities with every option and red leather interior. I traded in my 19 E450 wagon off lease - big difference on power and refinement. But for the money best car in this market. Got $5k off sticker - sticker was about $59k. Had to save some money. Cool looking and so far fun.

Idk what to say, this is kinda like the base trim and for the price it's going more for the brand name. No ventilated seats is kinda weird, i do like the styling though. Genesis might win this year as well, 😅. Especially the tech Genesis has, is really something else.

In Canada the alfa romeo (the trim in video is top but one trim) starts at close to 66k,whereas genesis starts its base trim at around same price 66k and offers lot of tech which alfa doesn't offer even in the so called stelvio veloce trim. People opt these vehicles from the usual run of the mill vehicles to have that extra oomph factor and I'm not saying alfa is missing but genesis sort of takes it miles ahead with the stuff they offer, both exterior and interior wise.

if youre only leasing i think alfa romeo is a good choice but with its track history of problems, id rather go with genesis gv70. Genesis has been doing some amazing things.

I dig the Alfa love. Was watching one of your videos a couple of weeks ago with a Quadrofoglio and the wife leaned over and freaked out. Italian wife now has an Italian Giulia Ti. I blame it on Lori and Joe but the car is great!!!
GV70 is a more contemporary car and probably has the edge in build and refinement. The Alfa has heritage, has more "character" for many buyers, probably has sharper steering and more feel, and a sportier edge. Whichever you like. At some point, GV70s may become much more common to see than the Alfa as well.
Got to drive a Stelvio for a week and it edges out the gv70 in driving dynamics for sure. Loved the uniqueness that is when you drive the Alfa. I’d hate to drive a Euro and have everyone in my neighborhood driving the same 2 cars just in a different color.
The gv70 copied the Stelvio design and the Stelvio engine is superior, even with the v6 the gv70 is about as fast as the 4 cylinder Alfa. The engineering behind the Stelvio chassis and springs and crankshaft are unmatched by other makers, the Stelvio is much lighter. You will see more g70 around because it costs 20k less than an Alfa and because they copied the looks of the Stelvio. In other words if you are not an Italian cars enthusiast and you are broke then you get a g70.
There are a lot of talk about the looks and about the less competitive infotainment (which kind of is) But we should mention the goodies: The Stelvio is built on the Ferrari team engineered Giorgio platform fine tuned for 50/50% wheight distribution. In this platform, the front full aluminum engine is mounted behind the front axle. The body is also almost full aluminum. The patent suspension is full aluminum even the drive shaft is carbon fiber. This makes the Stelvio the lighter SUV in its category and the best balanced. For instance, the GV70 has 20 horse power more and has basically the same 0-60 time because of its extra weight. The steering is very direct even more than on a 911 Porsche and the transmission is also the more compact and lighter in the market an eight speed sequential: ZF8HP. People complaint about electronic in Italian cars. Guess what, Fly-by-wires brakes are from German Continental. Adaptive Cruise control with radar and autonomous driving are from German Bosch. From a dynamic behaviour point of view, this is easily the best in its class. The only thing that comes close is the Macan. Yes the Stelvio can be very luxurious inside with first class leather finishes, not that fake leather we see in so many offerings these days. It has also very nice aluminum / carbon finishes, but if it just luxury you're looking for, yes, there are other options to consider. The Stelvio is a driver's vehicle. This crossover drives very well, not just for an SUV, it actually drives better than many sedans.
Thanks for bringing the new trim to us, but a 4 cyl. Stelvio with an outdated infotainment system just doesn’t cut it against the GV70. However a Stelvio QV in Verde Montreal would be killer even with a lousy infotainment system. Just put in U Connect 5 and get it over with.
My wife is considering a SUV among Macan, CLB, E-Pace, and Stelvio. I really want to know how is Alfa Romeo's reliability recently, have they improved a lot or still as what rumors said is reliable. Thanks.
Alfa romeos have always been sexy cars and their steering and handling have always been the best part of those cars. And those massive paddles are something to drool on. Not plastic to add in

I can see why the put the rear wiper where they do so often. This way it cleans the bottom of the window better which is where you want the visibility through the rear view mirror. It's not as pretty but it's more functional.
I really enjoy watching your reviews even if I’m not interested in that particular car, you make it fun. However, I own one of these beautiful Italian stallions, and having a blast driving it. Everybody rags on the small infotainment screen but I really like that it’s smaller and fits nicely into the dash. I don’t wanna be watching TV while I’m driving.

That Mentos tray is meant for the key fob. Love my 2020. Are ventilated seats an option now? Is limited slip differential standard now? Did you have it in Dynamic mode? What is the torque on the GV70? Torque is what really matters.
Power is always what matters. ...people use to say that torque is what matters, but only because the higher the torque more power we get at a given engine speed (rpms). What we should look is for the torque curve to see the amount of power available throughout the engine rpms.
Awesome review in the Alfas and to be honest, with all your reviews. I really like the fact that you actual cars from dealers and not press vehicles in order to ensure you don't get a "better example just to get higher scores" type of vehicle. your way keeps it honest. I really love the Alfa Stelvio, but do think that they have lost a ton of sales because of the fact that, in their price range, they are the smaller vehicle. The same thing has happened with the Giulia. I think that if they lower the price by about 7-10k's they will be more competitive. Either that or increase the size of the vehicle to be more tailored to the US market. Thanks again Raiti and Lori for the awesome reviews
No the Stelvio it's not the smaller one. It's even slightly larger than some. It looks smaller, because of its lines. But check dimensions and you will see, that the Stelvio is the same size of its main competitors: BMW X3, X4, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Merc GLC or GLC Coupe... Etc.
Went to test drive Stelvio Veloce and GV70(MSRP close to $52000 over the weekend, both drive pretty good. Yes GV70 has more tech, but most of the driving assist tech I don't need those. The birdview camera from GV70 is proabbly the most wanted feature for a Stelvio. However the leasing payment from GV70 shocked me!

Owning a Giulia, I am a fan of the brand and the Stelvio. The GV70 was on my list, but after visiting owner forums, many issues make it a no go. Maybe in a couple years they will work the bugs out.
My Ti Sport is now over 65k miles and amazing. Only one warranty replacement. Fuel emissions canister replacement. And it was such an easy appointment... Get one!!
I noticed the distinctive grill of the Alfa Romeo in a driveway in March while driving but didn't recognize the badge and couldn't locate it online. Weeks ago I saw it again while walking and it was a Stelvio. Very impressive looking SUV.
That GV70 is so damn fresh, it would be very hard to choose - both have fresh, sexy design - but I know the GV70 has more luxury and tech. That Veloce styling and color combo with the black phone dial wheels has me drooling. You couldn't go wrong with either, they are both great alternatives to the usual Germans.
If you want "I have the latest iPhone" flashiness, go GV70. If you want substance, there is only one choice. Stelvio does not have the biggest or the most up-to-date video game screen for sure. It has what matters; an all aluminum and magnesium suspension allowing it to run rings around even a Porsche Macan. Telepathic steering feel. Italian leather that won't be cracked and peeling 6 years from now. Actual aluminum paddle shifters mounted to the column. A carbon fiber driveshaft (yes even on the base model) which costs way more than steel because it is straight out of the racing world. The GV70 is skin deep; the Stelvio has "it" in its very DNA. That's all you need to know to make your choice.
Well said but unfortunately people want the video screen and massage chairs. If you like driving and appreciate a fine tuned Italian machine with some heritage it's a no brainer Alfa all the way.
as somoene who doesnt like SUV's I just got a 2021 E53 wagon, its so handy. I love it !! I can put stuff in the back for my business, and also in the summer my wife and I can throw the bikes in the back and not worry about the bike rack anymore.. This is the perfect car ! and great on fuel as well ! E63 would be faster yes, but man with the price of gasoline lately, I will sacrifice the V8 for the 6 hybrid..... 😁
the Stelvio went from 45k for the Base TI in 2018... to 53K for the TI in 2023. kinda crazy increase over a short period of time. Many improvements but still.. this is straight out of Audi's playbook with their return in the 90s.
I just got the quadrofoil in white. Its amazing. People are like blah blah blah hard to fix expensive maint cost. well look ppl, if i can afford a Alfa then i can afford a 2000$ wheels ya know? but anyway. The Stelvio is amazing. Its fast Its really got amazing features. the head unit is a bit outdated reminds me a bit of the audi symphony.
My biggest issue with this car is the interior for me. You could easily get a loaded Mazda CX-5 and have more desirable features for less money. Now the engine and driving experience is definitely a high point for Alfa, but most people these days want the whole package and this isn’t that in my opinion
Joe im a big fan of alfa romeo and stevlio. I had the ti sport and love and miss the nero edizione blackout package. Im very disappointed that the new stevlio doesnt have it anymore. But i believe veloce has some blackout but i feel it doesnt look as agressive as the nero edizone did. I would never buy a genisus before a alfa. This veloce is on my radar but was thinking of electric tonale
My son’s name is Romeo. He’s 6. He’s excited every time he sees Alfa Romeo on the road. I’m gonna get this!!! He will be very happy when I drive this car to drop him off and pick him up at school.
I have a 2022 stelvio myself and I have to say… there’s really no point in upgrading trims from the base model unless you want to option out more “unnecessary” things This car standard already comes with a load of convenience features like heated front and rear seats (ventilated seats aren’t an option on this car) heated steering wheel, wireless charging, remote start, and an suv that’s quicker than most in this segment or price range I personally still like German better, but for cars like an X5 or GLE, you have to option out everything that comes base on this car which’ll probably cost you more than a $1000 extra :/
Just discovered this humdinger today. I was sitting at a light behind one when the light turned green it magically shot out like a bat out of hell and left us all crawling forward. 😢
I took a day off from for a change ,... went to do the shop run and saw 3 or 4 of these during my excursion.... they are a REAL EYE CATCHER for me so much so I’m now considering one for myself... I’ve been patiently WAITING on that Ram Dakota so I can trade UP to it , but the procrastination is getting OLD ... looked on line found a 2017 priced around 25k with relatively low miles ... seems like a GOOD buy to me ... But I’m trying to cut though the noise about reliability and get some truth and cost analysis where the issues are that come about ... I do remember the days of ANYTHING FOREIGN in the repair shop would be over and above the domestics so after dealing with that I’ve stayed away from those that I do like .. not a fan of the Camry and Accords ... Style wise I would consider THIS

I can see why the put the rear wiper where they do so often. This way it cleans the bottom of the window better which is where you want the visibility through the rear view mirror. It's not as pretty but it's more functional.
Right? And I like the third tail light on the top rather than at the bottom of the window. Superior placement for the Alfa Romeo....
I really enjoy watching your reviews even if I’m not interested in that particular car, you make it fun. However, I own one of these beautiful Italian stallions, and having a blast driving it. Everybody rags on the small infotainment screen but I really like that it’s smaller and fits nicely into the dash. I don’t wanna be watching TV while I’m driving.

That Mentos tray is meant for the key fob. Love my 2020. Are ventilated seats an option now? Is limited slip differential standard now? Did you have it in Dynamic mode? What is the torque on the GV70? Torque is what really matters.
Power is always what matters. ...people use to say that torque is what matters, but only because the higher the torque more power we get at a given engine speed (rpms).
What we should look is for the torque curve to see the amount of power available throughout the engine rpms.
Awesome review in the Alfas and to be honest, with all your reviews. I really like the fact that you actual cars from dealers and not press vehicles in order to ensure you don't get a "better example just to get higher scores" type of vehicle. your way keeps it honest. I really love the Alfa Stelvio, but do think that they have lost a ton of sales because of the fact that, in their price range, they are the smaller vehicle. The same thing has happened with the Giulia. I think that if they lower the price by about 7-10k's they will be more competitive. Either that or increase the size of the vehicle to be more tailored to the US market. Thanks again Raiti and Lori for the awesome reviews
No the Stelvio it's not the smaller one. It's even slightly larger than some. It looks smaller, because of its lines. But check dimensions and you will see, that the Stelvio is the same size of its main competitors: BMW X3, X4, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Merc GLC or GLC Coupe... Etc.
Went to test drive Stelvio Veloce and GV70(MSRP close to $52000 over the weekend, both drive pretty good. Yes GV70 has more tech, but most of the driving assist tech I don't need those. The birdview camera from GV70 is proabbly the most wanted feature for a Stelvio. However the leasing payment from GV70 shocked me!

Owning a Giulia, I am a fan of the brand and the Stelvio. The GV70 was on my list, but after visiting owner forums, many issues make it a no go. Maybe in a couple years they will work the bugs out.

I noticed the distinctive grill of the Alfa Romeo in a driveway in March while driving but didn't recognize the badge and couldn't locate it online. Weeks ago I saw it again while walking and it was a Stelvio. Very impressive looking SUV.

That GV70 is so damn fresh, it would be very hard to choose - both have fresh, sexy design - but I know the GV70 has more luxury and tech. That Veloce styling and color combo with the black phone dial wheels has me drooling. You couldn't go wrong with either, they are both great alternatives to the usual Germans.

If you want "I have the latest iPhone" flashiness, go GV70. If you want substance, there is only one choice. Stelvio does not have the biggest or the most up-to-date video game screen for sure. It has what matters; an all aluminum and magnesium suspension allowing it to run rings around even a Porsche Macan. Telepathic steering feel. Italian leather that won't be cracked and peeling 6 years from now. Actual aluminum paddle shifters mounted to the column. A carbon fiber driveshaft (yes even on the base model) which costs way more than steel because it is straight out of the racing world. The GV70 is skin deep; the Stelvio has "it" in its very DNA. That's all you need to know to make your choice.

Well said but unfortunately people want the video screen and massage chairs. If you like driving and appreciate a fine tuned Italian machine with some heritage it's a no brainer Alfa all the way.

as somoene who doesnt like SUV's I just got a 2021 E53 wagon, its so handy. I love it !! I can put stuff in the back for my business, and also in the summer my wife and I can throw the bikes in the back and not worry about the bike rack anymore.. This is the perfect car ! and great on fuel as well ! E63 would be faster yes, but man with the price of gasoline lately, I will sacrifice the V8 for the 6 hybrid..... 😁

I test drove one today, the steering is totally on point and the acceleration. However, the super small screen and ride quality were cons my opinion.
It's a lovely, Italian jewel. But a Lexus NX would be my perfect balance in this segment.
Especially with the new tech that the Lexus!
My Genesis stealer is adding a $5000 market adjustment to the GV70 so it isn’t any bargain anymore. We are trying to look at other options.

the Stelvio went from 45k for the Base TI in 2018... to 53K for the TI in 2023. kinda crazy increase over a short period of time. Many improvements but still.. this is straight out of Audi's playbook with their return in the 90s.
Look at every other company. They paced with the car market/inflation.

I just got the quadrofoil in white. Its amazing. People are like blah blah blah hard to fix expensive maint cost. well look ppl, if i can afford a Alfa then i can afford a 2000$ wheels ya know? but anyway. The Stelvio is amazing. Its fast Its really got amazing features. the head unit is a bit outdated reminds me a bit of the audi symphony.

My biggest issue with this car is the interior for me. You could easily get a loaded Mazda CX-5 and have more desirable features for less money. Now the engine and driving experience is definitely a high point for Alfa, but most people these days want the whole package and this isn’t that in my opinion

Joe im a big fan of alfa romeo and stevlio. I had the ti sport and love and miss the nero edizione blackout package. Im very disappointed that the new stevlio doesnt have it anymore. But i believe veloce has some blackout but i feel it doesnt look as agressive as the nero edizone did. I would never buy a genisus before a alfa. This veloce is on my radar but was thinking of electric tonale

I have a 2022 stelvio myself and I have to say… there’s really no point in upgrading trims from the base model unless you want to option out more “unnecessary” things
This car standard already comes with a load of convenience features like heated front and rear seats (ventilated seats aren’t an option on this car) heated steering wheel, wireless charging, remote start, and an suv that’s quicker than most in this segment or price range
I personally still like German better, but for cars like an X5 or GLE, you have to option out everything that comes base on this car which’ll probably cost you more than a $1000 extra :/

I took a day off from for a change ,... went to do the shop run and saw 3 or 4 of these during my excursion.... they are a REAL EYE CATCHER for me so much so I’m now considering one for myself... I’ve been patiently WAITING on that Ram Dakota so I can trade UP to it , but the procrastination is getting OLD ... looked on line found a 2017 priced around 25k with relatively low miles ... seems like a GOOD buy to me ... But I’m trying to cut though the noise about reliability and get some truth and cost analysis where the issues are that come about ... I do remember the days of ANYTHING FOREIGN in the repair shop would be over and above the domestics so after dealing with that I’ve stayed away from those that I do like .. not a fan of the Camry and Accords ... Style wise I would consider THIS

I like it but the screen is way too small deal breaker for me - my buddy bought an XT4 ALL black loaded very cool looking $54k and quick
