Hi, I just bought a Surface book 3, and I have a dell wd15 dock which i use work my work computer (dell latitude 5490). The wd15 dock does work with my surface book 3 via usb c, however it is not as smooth as i would like. When I plug it, only 50% of the time charges my laptop, i have to unplug and plug it in until it starts charging. The other thing is that the wd15 dock is connected via hdmi to my monitor, and when i plug the dock into my surface book,, the external monitor is not detected. i have to unplug the hdmi from the wd15 and plug it in again, and it works. So i have to do all these to have the dock charge and provide connection to my monitor. Am i missing something here? like a driver or something? Or is this expected since the dock is DELL and my laptop is MICROSOFT?
Hi, to get the best experience using your Surface Book 3, I would recommend getting a Surface Docking Station. It sounds like your Dell docking station isn't compatible with your Surface Device. This problem is familiar with hardware from 2 different companies.
I am running a HD (4K) cable (Mini DP to HDMI) and I still don’t get the option for 5120x1440 resolution. Am I missing a driver or do I need a 5K cable? If so, any specific brand and model recommendations for a cable?
Yes USB C to HDMI is just as good if not better that a laptop that has HDMI port. USB C port has multiple uses where’s as a HMDI does one thing. I recommend buying a laptop with USC-C or Thunderbolt ports.
Actually I'm having the lenovo ideapad c340 laptop and i want to extend the screen into my surface go tablet and surface 7 pro tablet .........so I need your help, how to extend it with cables not by using apps..............which cables do i need to extend the screens from my laptop to both the tablets
Jonna Nikhil Hi Jonna, great question. You can use an HDMI from your Ideapad to USB-C cable or Adapter connected you you Surface Go and once connected, power on both devices. On the Ideapad press, the Windows Key and P key and select extend the desktop. This will allow you to use your Surface as a second screen.
What if im trying to use my surface pro 4 as a third monitor for my actual pc? Im trying to use the webcam on my surface so I wont have to purchase a separate webcam
Hi Ceeessaar, unfortunately, that won’t work because you can't change the source of your Surface Pro 4; therefore, it won't behave as a third monitor when connected to another PC.

Hi JG, thank you for your question. A wireless display adapter will be the best way to go. The HDMI will allow you to connect to the Surface Wirelessly. The USB is for power. So if you have a USB extender, then you can plug the USB into the wall to power the adapter.

Hi Nemesis, than you for you question. Yes you can connect a Surface Laptop to a monitor using a usb-c to usb-c cable. The Surface Laptop must have an usb-c port and so does the monitor for video.

BROOOO I love this channel!
Mr. Plascencia Thank you bro!
I've plugged in my HDMI in my TV and USB-c to HDMI adapter and switched to the correct source, however my laptop screen won't show on my TV. I don't know what to do, so I'd appreciate it if you have any advice
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Setting, Systems, then Displays to see if the TV is visible on the computer.
This guy is a legend!
Thank you, Royer; I appreciate you!
can i just directly connect them with a usb-c to hdmi cable?
Yes you can if you are using a Surface that jas a USC-C port and a monitor with a HDMI port.
@Right how old is your HDMI cable and are you connecting to a monitor or TV?
@Right You have a Zenbook. What type of monitor do you have? Or is it a TV. You should be able to attach your HDMI cable to your TV or Monitor. You also need to check the source of your TV or Monitor to ensure it's on the correct input.
Thank you 😭you are a life saver
You are welcome. Thank you for your support!
Sir, is it necessary to use adapter to connect pc and TV?
It’s not necessary is you have a cable with the correct inputs for the TV and the PC.
Can you connect with USB to the monitor? Or does it have to be through HDMI?
Hi Tabris, I recommend connecting via HDMI.
How do you get the sound to cast from the TV vs the surface?
Thank you for you question. Go to the volume icon in the taskbar and select the audio device you would like to hear audio.
Can you screen cast a Surface Pro to a monitor as well or just a TV?
Yes, you can stream to a monitor from a Surface Pro using a “Wireless Display Adapter.”
Nice clean simple instructions - thanks!
You are welcome! Thank you for the feedback 😀
Where to connect my wireless keyboard/mouse to?
What kind of Surface are you using?
Surface Pro 6 (i5-825). Any cable recommendations to run a 5120x1440 Ultrawide monitor?
Mini display to HDMI
I am running a HD (4K) cable (Mini DP to HDMI) and I still don’t get the option for 5120x1440 resolution. Am I missing a driver or do I need a 5K cable? If so, any specific brand and model recommendations for a cable?
Can you just use mini displayport to displayport cable where there's a displayport socket on the monitor?
Yes, you can use a mini display port to display port cable for a monitor with a display port.
@@Kperryglobal thanks mate. Just did that with my new monitors
Awesome that’s good to here! Let me know if you need anything else or if there’s content you would like to see.
Would this work with an external projector? I struggled to connect it with and Android tablet, the projector did not recognize the input
Yes, this will work with a projector as long as the projector has an HDMI port and a cable or the correct adapter for your Surface.
Does an external USB c to HDMI run just as good as a internal HDMI or is it better to just get a laptop with an actual HDMI port?
Yes USB C to HDMI is just as good if not better that a laptop that has HDMI port. USB C port has multiple uses where’s as a HMDI does one thing. I recommend buying a laptop with USC-C or Thunderbolt ports.
@@Kperryglobal okay, thank you that clears up some questions

Kperryglobal yeah bro I tried it thanks for help but what should I use to extend laptop screen to two tablets please give an idea for this also
Jonna Nikhil I would recommend getting a docking station for the Lenovo.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
What if im trying to use my surface pro 4 as a third monitor for my actual pc? Im trying to use the webcam on my surface so I wont have to purchase a separate webcam
Hi Ceeessaar, unfortunately, that won’t work because you can't change the source of your Surface Pro 4; therefore, it won't behave as a third monitor when connected to another PC.
I have surface pro 4 & I have Samsung screen 32" with HDMI port & Display Port, how can I connect wirelessly my surface with this screen? what is the best solution to do this? should I buy wireless Microsoft wireless surface adapter but this kind of adapters contains it has HDMI & USB and my Samsung screen have only HDMI & Display Port, Please advise the best solutions
Hi JG, thank you for your question. A wireless display adapter will be the best way to go. The HDMI will allow you to connect to the Surface Wirelessly. The USB is for power. So if you have a USB extender, then you can plug the USB into the wall to power the adapter.
@@Kperryglobal thanks a lot, it's working with me, now if I want to connect the camera to the screen, how it can be sync with surface pro, the camera it will be located at the top of the screen and the at the same time should be sync with surface pro cam, what you advise me to in this case, please help, thanks a lot, I have doc station for surface pro 4
Thank you! Very helpful

What kind of tv do I need to make it wireless ? Will a smart tv work 😓
Most Samsung and LG smart TV will connect wirelessly to a Windows 10 laptop or Surface.

Hi @CJAE4, if you are using a Surface device, I recommend using a Surface Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The keyboard and mouse will not connect to your TV. They must connect to your PC. Please let me know if this answers your question.
Thanks very helpful!! 👍
You are welcome. Thank you for watching. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for the video.
My question to the entire computer industry, why it’s so complicated to plug stuff in stuff? Under a client’s computer, it should arrive with a simple page with exactly how to plug. I don’t want to find an entire a book of instructions. Most of the time I have to go to a video like this.
Thanks, Sir.
Thank you for the feedback. I agree, sir. Thank why I make videos like this to help people solve connection issues. I appreciate you.
Thank you sir I was so confused ❤️❤️❤️
what is the name of the docking station with 2 mini display ports? please ;)
Surface Dock
how can i adjust the aspect ratio from my 3:2 surface laptop 3 to my 16:9 monitor and prevent the picture from stretching?
Change your display resolution. Go to setting >Display>display Resolution then select.
@@Kperryglobal thanks
You are welcome!
I did the same using an usb c port but the image on my screen look extended
Go to settings, system, display setting and change to your preferred option.
Got a Surface Pro 7, but when i connect my 1080p monitor using the USB C - the image on the monitor is cutoff at the top and bottom. Even in your video, you can see the that the Windows task bar on the bottom is slightly cutoff on the connected display. Any way to fix this?
Hi K Arun Change your display resolution. Go to Settings>Display>display Resolution then select 1080p.
@@Kperryglobal Thanks Kenneth. The display setting was already on 1920 x 1080. I played around with the screen size settings on the monitor and when I switched from '16:9' to 'fit to screen' - then the screen displayed correctly.
Glad you were able to figure it out. Thank you for letting me know.

Do we need 4K monitor as my HD doesn’t work with surface Doc
Thank you for your question. No, you do not need a 4K Monitor. Right-click desktop then select display setting to change your screen solution. What kind of Sirface do you have and what's the resolution of you monitor?
Just got a Surface Laptop. Connecting an external monitor through USB-C/HDMI. External monitor is stuck / locked at 640x480. Updated display driver. Still same. Can't find any info online. Any suggestions ?
Hi Jkristia, thank you for your question. Is your display monitor 1080 or 4K? Have you tried changing your display settings on the Surface or the monitor?
@@Kperryglobal Hey, Actually, it works now. I change the projection (?) Win-P, changed to 'second screen only (the external monitor), and it showed correct. When I switched back to 'extend' I suddenly had all the resolution options available. Really strange, but at least it works.
@@jkristia2011 Thanks for the information; I'm happy to hear you figured it out. 😀 Please let know if have any additional questions.
I’m connecting my Surface Laptop 4 (usb-c) to a Samsung Odyssey AG3 (hdmi) and my laptop doesn’t recognize the monitor. Note I’m not using an adapter just a usbc to hdmi cable. Any suggestions?
Actually my laptop is recognizing the monitor but still not getting any video on the monitor. I’ve checked the source options within the monitor verifying it’s on hdmi. Still no video.

cant i connect a surface laptop to a monitor only using usb-c to usb-c?
Hi Nemesis, than you for you question. Yes you can connect a Surface Laptop to a monitor using a usb-c to usb-c cable. The Surface Laptop must have an usb-c port and so does the monitor for video.
Thanks. That was easy
Thank you for the feedback, Roydug123!
OMG Thank you so much!!
No problem!!
How do I connect my Microsoft surface book 2 to a thunderbolt gen 2 Displays
You can use a docking station to connect to two monitors.
Anyone know how I connect a pro 8 with usbc into a monitor that is VGA?
You will need a USB-C cable to VGA. I also recommend getting a new monitor to take advantage of the Surface Pro 8 Pixel Sense Display.
Great great video thank you

To me the screen just stays black and it tells me that it absorbs too much energy. I'm using a Smsung Odyssey and Surface Studio 1 with an RTX 3050. Pretty limiting.

What is the addaptar of Surface in 3:00?
What device are you referring to, the Surface 3 or the Surface Pro 3? They both have a mini display port so that you would need a mini display to HDMI adapter. Please let me know if I answered your question.
sound not coming out of tv, the 2 displays are showing the same, sound only through laptop. there no option to change output to tv
Hi, thank you for your question. Left-click on the volume icon in the taskbar, click on the upward arrow and select the option you want sound from.

@@iputyouinmyoveni5541 does the Surface Go have the latest firmware updates? Did you try unplugging and restarting the Surface, then connect to TV again?
Tengo una duda.
Y si conectamos el adaptador directamente a la tablet surface book, a través del puerto de carga que se acopla al teclado, no a la base del teclado. ¿puede funcionar?
Gracias de antemano.
