This is probably the closest I felt to drowning while spearfishing. Shooting a fish deep and then getting dragged down while swimming up is a recipe for disaster when freediving. But we still pulled off one epic spearfishing catch and cook episode!

With many shark encounters and many dives it's only a matter of time before you experience some sort of spearfishing accident. I was never too worried I would actually die from drowning because I had a good spearfishing buddy watching my back incase I would blackout.
Let's avoid any Florida drowning episodes here on the South Florida Fishing Channel and keep on putting out more catch and cook episodes. Hope you stick around for the black grouper at the end of the episode
Heico I have COPD there’s a small bottle about 6 inches long with a mouthpiece on it what are you do is press a button you get fresh air you should always carry one of these on your side belt just in case you lose your breath it will save your life, look into it saves mine
I get it, been there in stud mode. Blue water spearing 40 yrs. Warned you once about dives over 65. There is not one fish or "picture shot" worth the risk. You encountered the exact situation I warned you about. You got lucky because you did have a good dive partner. What if he was just a little farther away? What if he was distracted from a chompy chomp you did not see? Only want to extend the best advice and support your adventure, but your risk to success ratio has not quite sunk in yet. After 65 you disolve your safety margin by 50%, and that is before you even shoot your fish. Is it worth it? Always there for you Heiko but how many lives does your inner cat have left?? God speed!

Fishing No Fish Is Worth Swimming For!
Diving into that deep of water always have a good 👍 buddy with you.
Know your limitations and respect that water!
Carson and I have a pretty strict buddy system which allows us to push ourselves past normal limits. I felt like my lungs were exploding and blacking out could happen, but I was never worried because we have each others back in those situations. We will now begin training for 120ft free dives

Heico if you do 120 foot dive used tanks don’t be a hero that’s ridiculous you can’t make a mistake if you do it will be your last one. Please dont, it’s not worth the risk. A fish is not worth dying for. Nobody cares if you can dive 120 feet, you dont need to impress anyone.
And that is why us old guys use stainless cable on our guns... And dive tanks...

I've been watching from the very beginning...I remember the excitement hico would get when he would catch a fish ,,,,it made me go out in my boat and catch one .. hahahaha...he's like a pro now ...but I enjoyed watching him grow as a true fisherman!!!

Heiko, please bring a small pocket knife or jackknife/Swiss army knife or mini wirecutters with you the next time you go diving.
(Cat tip: the pellets can be used for cat litter in a pinch if you ever need to keep Elliot inside.)
I have a dive knife on my weight belt =) luckily Elliot is trained to go potty outside so I don't need any cat litter but good to know =)

You should get a Kingsford charcoal caddy it holds a 40 pound bag of wood Pellets and keeps them dry as hell. Easy pouring into the hopper

Hey if ya ever want an awesome toss in the new truck flashlight, I love my Wurkkos D-70 diving light. It's the perfect size flashlight above EDC size and is built like a tank!! Oh and it's 13,000 lumens and has the perfect lanyard that really grips your wetsuit.
For rubber grips on my flashlights, I bought several yellow rubber vacuum adapters from Flowbee and they work great.

What you guys in Florida can not use a SCUBA tank ? Plus I would not freedive past 50 ft spearfishing too little time and air going that deep for that big fish as you found out. I did love the video though I gave you a thumbs up 😎

Some people eat chips, drink soda and never chase their dreams. I don’t think my priorities are fucked up at all. If I didn’t have a dive buddy I would have dropped the gun. But I took Carson being a badass into my calculation and came up on top like I always do. I am a beast and so is everyone in my close circle of titans. My priorities are more solid than diamonds. I challenge anyone that believes otherwise
