Thank the good Lord for 3-D printing, resin casting and photo-etched parts ! The good old days of model car building is now !
I've built engines like the one you featured and resin cars....both are awesome. Resin cars from a quality caster that knows there work are artwork, any will need bodywork and aren't for a novice builder but with patience and a little work they are fantastic!

Ahh, a man after my own heart, love those Ford 429 Boss engines!
I think most of those resin parts will cure more if you either set them out in the sun or put them under a UV light source.
You can paint your plug wires whatever color you want. Just put them on as soon as they are dry to the touch so the paint doesn't crack. You can also paint on the plug-wire boots.

Mathew I have built the same engine as you are working on in this video I also built the 55 pickup that you show in the video as a Gasser I also used the complete Gasser chassis sold by Iceman Collection's I had to extensively modify the firewall and floor pan to fit it all together and have the cab sit correctly I also believe that it is a magnito ignition and the plug wires are supposed to exit sideways Model on Brother

I'm sure you've been told several times but.... The early blowers were retrofitted from a GM Detroit Diesel engine. These engines built between 1936, and the late '70s were in boats, construction equipment, and mostly Semi trucks.they were two cycle like a chainsaw motor.
To extend the horsepower GM added a in-house built blower.
Now.... the smallest was a 3-71. This came on a 3 cylinder diesal engine, the 6-71 ( which was the first blowers used in drag racing). Was on the inline 6 cylinder. This engine was used extensively in 50s through 70s semis mostly single axle local delivery trucks. The 8-71 introduced in the late 60s was a V-8 style engine. This was GMs road tractor engine. It competed with Cat, and Cummin. Like I said earlier racers of the 50 made their on intake manifolds, belt, or chain drive systems ( because on the diesal engines the blowers were mechanical running off the camshaft ). Early examples like the Orange Twist model had the blower mounted on the front of the engine running off the front of the cam.
In later years new companies started manufacturing aftermarket blower that were greatly improved over the GM 30s technology.
    Hopefully this explains the 8-71.

The resin used to make that was most likely UV resin. It hardens in sun or UV light. They might not have cured it very long. Some resins on the market do produce a soft a rubber like product as well. The finger like part is support structure, so soft and uncured parts do not warp while hanging upside down on the plate

So with resin printing, what you removed was the supports and raft. Resin printers print upside down and printing directly on the build plate can cause issues. Most resin prints are printed at 45 degrees for best results. Most 3d printed resin is also very sandable, but the dust is really not good for you (which you probably already know).

For heat staining the headers, I've had good results from inks in a flat acrylic medium. Both yellow & blue can be used, but be careful. you don't want it to turn green. The key is a transparent, very thin paint. One can use airbrush or brush to apply. mixing up a small quantity gives you ready made anodized fittings & other components you want. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it takes time and patience but well worth it, I now own a drag car you can not get from any brand that makes models. I have since bought 2 more bodys from same guy at the California, a 64' Plymouth valiant signet and a 66' plymouth barracuda long nose funnycar. I recommend you a more complete kit as a first try👍

That came out looking great. Supercharger/blower, same thing. The 6-71 and so forth refers to the number of cylinders and the displacement of each. A 6-71 would be a 6- cylinder engine with 71 cubic inches per cylinder, for a total of 426 cubic inches. We’re talking diesels here, but that’s from back in the day when they’d strip the blower off of some old engine and bolt it on top of their engine, once they figured out the manifold, of course. I used to work next door to a diesel repair shop and they had some old Chevy truck with a 2-stroke 4 cylinder diesel in it with the supercharger bolted to the side of the block, and a turbocharger. Tell me that wasn’t doing some deep breathing. Nice job on this, Matthew. 👍

I have had the best results with Tamiya clear acrylics for heat stain details on headers. I have it in red blue yellow and orange. Less is best for the real effect. On headers my main go to is X 24 clear yellow. Just hints of it on curves and towards the end of the collectors. When dry go back with a touch of Tamiya black panel line accent color on tight spots to add depth and detail. It’s always worked for me.

  • @valdore5939
    @valdore5939 3 роки тому +1

Dammit. UA-cam's doing that thing again. You know that thing. Where they don't notify you of a new video. Ugh.
Anyway. Resin 3D printing may seem daunting. But it isn't. ( FDM on the other hand. Ohhhh boy. ) With the prices of the machines, and resin coming down. Plus, having Thingiverse bookmarked. If anyone has thought about jumping in on it. Do it. You won't be sorry. Watch a few tutorials on here. Get a few recommendations. You'll be good at it in no time. Not lying. I'm an idiot, and I do ok. Lol
For example. Just the other day I printed two sets of wheels in 1/25. A set of wire spokes, with spinners. And a set of classic five spokes. The hardest part about doing them, was resizing them to fit the kits tyres. Grand total for the 8 rims? 0.26 cents. That's AUD. So, about 0.15 cents USD. Last time I printed a car body I think it averaged about 9 bucks. The only thing to consider is print time. The rims took 9 hours. A body can take up to, or over 24. Depending on the layer thickness. Wheels were printed at 0.01 thickness, the body at 0.05 to save running the printer for a week.
Oh, and another thing to consider. Test prints. The current car I'm printing has been through 7 different versions, trying to get interiors to fit, chassis rescaled to fit the body. You name it. It's been fixed, or fudged. Word of warning. Never trust a car from a video game. They lie. Lmao

I have been 3D printing my own parts for about a year now. Seeing some fresh new insight from a person who didn't even know about this is enjoyable.
That 429 engine had the plug boots in both angle or straight. More of a builders choice I think. But the wires you're using seem a tad too large. You'll see that if you use the googles for images of the engine.
Nice build too! Happy to see you working with this new concept.
