  • Audi has taken a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach with the redesigned Q5 and SQ5, keeping the familiar look that has made their mid-size SUV so popular. While many automakers are going electric, these models will stick with gas engines and are set to hit the market in the spring or early summer of 2025. Interestingly, these SUVs will be built on what is expected to be Audi's last new gas platform, marking the end of an era.
At first glance, the Q5 may look similar to its predecessor, but Audi has given it a thorough refresh. The front now sports a bold grille, large air intakes, and a sleek LED strip above the headlights. Subtle curves along the sides and a black trim give the SUV a more streamlined appearance.
The Q5 will come standard with 18-inch wheels, with options to upgrade to 19 or 20-inch wheels. The sportier SQ5 starts with 20-inch wheels but can go up to 21 inches, paired with all-season or summer tires. At the back, Audi has introduced new horizontal OLED taillights, which can change their appearance. These taillights are made up of six panels containing 266 OLED elements. In some regions, they can even display different patterns as warnings to other drivers. Additionally, the third brake light casts a pattern onto the rear window, improving visibility from behind without distracting those inside the car.
Under the hood, the Q5 and SQ5 feature familiar engines, but with some enhancements. The base engine has been upgraded from 201 to 268 horsepower, thanks to a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which is expected to shave the 0 to 60 mph time down to the mid-five-second range. For those craving more power, the SQ5 offers a 362 horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, paired with a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Despite the performance boost, fuel efficiency should remain similar to the previous models, with the Q5 expected to get around 26 mpg and the SQ5 about 21 mpg.
Inside, the Q5 gets a modern overhaul with two large screens dominating the dashboard. The main touchscreen is a 14.5-inch display that controls everything from settings to climate control. There's even a physical volume knob that doubles as a control for skipping tracks or finding radio stations. In front of the driver is an 11.9-inch screen displaying speed and other vital info. While this new digital display isn't as flexible as previous versions, Audi offers an optional larger head-up display for easier viewing. For passengers, a 10.9-inch screen is available to control the infotainment system or watch videos, cleverly designed so it won’t distract the driver.
The Q5 has been a hit in the United States, with nearly half of all models, including the SQ5, sold there. This trend is expected to continue with the new versions arriving in 2025, thanks to Audi’s careful design updates and improved interior. While a plug-in hybrid option won’t be available at launch, it’s likely on the way. For now, the familiar gas engines should provide the reliability returning customers expect.
Thank you for watching. I hope you all enjoyed, feel free to share an opinion and see you next time.
